When do I need a<br />
supplementary first aid kit?<br />
If you have lone workers or those who work away<br />
from the workplace, such as security, cleaners,<br />
or maintenance staff, a personal issue kit enables<br />
basic first aid <strong>to</strong> be provided quickly and easily.<br />
If you have employees who are at risk of a severe<br />
life-threatening bleed or in the event of a masscasualty<br />
attack, a critical injury pack is required as<br />
standard first aid kits are not appropriately equipped.<br />
The HSE now recommends employers provide<br />
haemostatic dressings and <strong>to</strong>urniquets in their<br />
first aid provisions, and appropriate training for<br />
employees, where working with an identified risk<br />
of obtaining severe bleeding injuries.<br />

Critical Injury Pack<br />
The critical injury pack is designed <strong>to</strong> provide<br />
immediate, life-saving first aid <strong>to</strong> someone<br />
who has sustained a severe bleeding injury<br />
in the workplace.<br />
Recent Health and <strong>Safety</strong> Executive guidance<br />
now recommends employers provide<br />
haemostatic dressings and <strong>to</strong>urniquets in<br />
their first aid provisions for employees working<br />
with an identified risk of obtaining severe<br />
bleeding injuries.<br />
The critical injury pack is designed <strong>to</strong> be issued<br />
one per person (obviously only <strong>to</strong> employees<br />
exposed <strong>to</strong> the risk). The injured person then<br />
has their pack used on them, rather than a firstaider<br />
using their pack on someone else<br />
