Malaysia has at least 95 sub-groups<br />

of indigenous communities in<br />

own distinct language and culture.<br />

communities in <strong>UKM</strong> are primarily<br />

undertaken in the Faculty of Social<br />

Langkawi Geopark<br />

• <strong>The</strong> Langkawi Geopark, comprising all of the 99 islands in the<br />

Langkawi archipelago, is the world's 52nd Geopark and the first in<br />

Malaysia and Southeast Asia, following its listing in the UNESCO<br />

Global Network of Geoparks on June 1 2007.<br />

• Geopark is short form for geological park. According to UNESCO, a<br />

geopark is a territory encompassing one or more sites of scientific<br />

importance, not only for geological reasons, but also by virtue of<br />

the archeological, cultural, biodiversity and ecological value.<br />
