What an amazing year we have had at Wolf Creek. I am so proud of our graduates and all
their hard work to get to that important milestone in their lives. We wish all of our graduates the
very best in all their future endeavors. For our underclassmen we are excited to continue working
with you this summer and next year to ensure that you also make it to that graduation ceremony.
As we look at fall of 2012, we want to express to all current students that we are in need of
new student applications at Wolf Creek to fill the enrollment spaces of those graduates. It is
important for all current parents and students to help us spread the word that we are seeking
applications now. Looking at all our marketing research, it is proven that students talking about
Wolf Creek is the most effective way to get new students interested in our charter school. We are
asking for your help in spreading the word about what a great school Wolf
Creek is and helping us gain students for the 2012-2013 school year.

Celebrate Wolf Creek at North Branch
parade on Sat, June 17th
Do you want to represent Wolf Creek in the Mid Summer
Days parade in North Branch?
Show your support for Wolf Creek and have some fun!
Saturday June 17th at 1pm at VFW in North Branch. Parade
begins at 2 pm.
Meet us there and look for the green truck with Wolf signs on
it - you will walk the short parade route giving out pencils

Any TWC student who wishes to have work returned to
them for Term 4 must request this work within
14 days or the work will be destroyed.
This means all work must be picked up or requested
by June 26, 2012, the first day of summer term.
Wolf Wolf Creek Creek Power Power of of You You Class Class
Class
This year Wolf Creek ran a class called “The Power of You” during term 4. The class was run by Bob Downs and Sean Miller and met
every Thursday during the term for an hour and a half. During the class students were challenged both mentally and physically through the
completion of different tasks. To complete the different challenges, the students had to work as teams, communicate well, encourage
each other, and most importantly never give up.
The culmination of this class took place on Tuesday, May 22 nd in the form of a field trip to the YMCA Camp St. Croix. There, students got
to take part in two high ropes course challenges. The first challenge, called the Pamper Pole or the Leap of Faith, had the students climb
up a 30 foot telephone to try to stand on the very top and then jump off and hit a cowbell suspended near the top. The second challenge
was called the giant swing, in which students were hauled 40 – 50 feet into the air by their classmates. They then got to pull a ripcord,
which sent them flying down and up the other side. Through these challenges, students had to deal with being scared, having anxiety, and
hearing that voice inside their head that told them they couldn’t do it. All the students did a great job of pushing past those fears and accomplishing
their goals.

Essay Essay Contest
Contest
On Tuesday, May 9th students from all over the state stood on the
steps of the Minnesota state capitol building to honor the winners of this year’s essay
contest. Two of the winning students present were from Wolf Creek Online High
School. This was quite an accomplishment based on the fact that this year 1,857
Minnesota Charter Public School students submitted essays.
The contest was created in 2007 by the Center for School Change to encourage students
to write and share their stories. Each year a book is published with all of the
winning essays. This year the students were asked to describe a book that helped
change their lives in some way.
Wolf Creek student Shundiin Green, grade 10, confidently read her essay in front of a
large audience at the state capitol. Shundiin’s family and school faculty members
were present to celebrate this great achievement. The other Wolf Creek student received
a special award for her essay submission.
Congratulations to both Wolf Creek students for their hard work and courageous efforts
to share their stories. A special thanks to Sean Miller, teacher at Wolf Creek, for
organizing this contest for Wolf Creek students.
Summer School 2012….Begins on June 26th!
Summer is not far away! Most students have confirmed their registration for summer
school. Since Wolf Creek is a continuous learning year (CLY) program based
on status granted by the MDE, students attend school every month of the
year. Summer term is the shortest term in the school year; therefore, students
take fewer courses. There are a variety of classes to choose from. If you know a
student that is looking to get ahead on credits, make up credits, or start full time at
Wolf Creek, summer is a great time to ease into online learning. Please encourage
any students who are thinking of applying to apply today.
A complete list of classes offered this summer includes:
Careers, Child Development, Creative Writing, Criminal Justice, Current World
Issues, Digital Photography, Diverse Perspectives, Economics, Foods, Health I,
Health II, Horticulture, Independent Living, Junior Portfolio, Literary Explorations,
MN Mammals, Music Appreciation A, Personal Fitness, Phy Ed 9, Sociology,
Sports in Society, World Geography, World Literature.
This summer we will continue the Horticulture class that started this spring. For
this class students will attend sessions on Tuesdays from 10-11AM on campus.
This class will pick up where the Term 4 Horticulture class leaves off. Students
will be taking care of a garden that was planted this spring and learn a lot about
gardening in the process
Keep in mind the following Summer Session 2012 details:

* Last day of summer term: August 2nd at noon
* Campus open Tuesdays from 9 am- 2 pm on June 26, July 10, 17, 24, 31 and

* Students will be allowed to enroll in one full credit

After testing, the student score report is mailed
to the address you provide on your registration,
Wolf Creek if requested, and to up to four colleges/scholarship
agencies. Student score
reports are also available online three to eight
weeks after you take the test. If you took the
Writing Test, your score reports will be released
only after all your scores are available, usually
within 5 to 8 weeks after the test date.

will not be returning for summer 2012 employment
with Wolf Creek, but will instead be pursuing
other employment opportunities.
Wolf Creek also wishes a fond farewell to
Shannon Schlender as our truancy coordinator
with Chisago County, who has accepted a new
position with North Branch Schools for the
2012-2013 school year.
We want to thank these staff members for all
their hard work with students this year at Wolf
Creek and we know they will be missed.
Wolf Creek has hired Martha Airhart as a replacement
in the Special Education Department.
We are proud to welcome Martha who
comes to us with over 15 years of online experience
at both Chisago Lakes and Spring Lake
Park Schools.
Wolf Creek is making plans to fill the needed
language arts position at Wolf Creek as soon
as possible, based on budget and other Wolf
Creek needs.

April Students of the Month
Students of the month are honored at Wolf Creek each month as we recognize academic achievements,
positive attitudes, and contributions to the school and community. Students are nominated by their learning
managers and elected through a series of voting by the staff. Will you be next?
Victoria Miller of Wyoming, is a hard working junior at Wolf Creek Online High
School. She is consistently showing high motivation with her coursework and strives
to stay on track with her weekly progress. Tori demonstrates responsibility and a
strong work ethic which is what made her a great candidate for student of the month.
On top of her many achievements, Tori is also an excellent communicator and maintains
focus when working in lab. We are happy to honor this young student this month
and look forward to seeing her continue to grow and meet her goals.
Nicole Niedermayer of Scandia, is a senior at Wolf Creek this term. She has been
very successful this year working independently and communicating effectively with
her learning manager and course instructors. Nicole has demonstrated the skills needed
by an online learner of advocating for herself, organizing her daily tasks with
checklists, and setting goals. Nicole also has shown her motivation for working on
projects by using creativity and thoughtful ideas. She’s an active participant in school
activities such as Toys for Tots and College and Career Day. We look forward to seeing
what the future holds for this bright young student.
May Students of the Month
Elliott Miron of Center City, is a senior who will graduate this June. He has attended
Wolf Creek fulltime since the 9 th grade. Elliott is a very motivated student who completed
his coursework online from the comforts of home. The flexible schedule allowed him to
work on his family’s dairy farm and corn maze, as well as at a local meat market. Elliott’s
Learning Manager, Sandy Flint continues “Elliott is a very busy student who communicates
well, updates me on his progress, asks questions, and advocates for himself quite well. I am
very proud of him.” The staff at Wolf Creek look forward to seeing Elliott graduate this
year and to reaching his goals.
Shelby Wittibslager of Forest Lake, has been enrolled full time at Wolf Creek for two
years. She has passed every class since coming to us, often with A’s and B’s. Shelby is a
reserved and introspective individual, who puts great effort and thought into her schoolwork.
Shelby gave birth to her son, Jamie Clancy Jr., at the end of quarter 2. Shelby’s
Learning Manager, Lindsay Jarombek, wasn’t sure how this would affect her schoolwork,
but she worked hard to pass all of her quarter 2 classes, and got started right away on quarter
3. Since that time, she has remained consistent each week with her increases and has not
missed a deadline. According to Jarombek, “Shelby has good communication skills and
will self-advocate when needed. I am very proud of her perseverance and commitment to
her education!” We are happy to honor Shelby this month and look forward to seeing her
continue to grow and meet her goals.
