Promoting Dignity and Res<br />
Caring for People and Com<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>Pima</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Council</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>Aging</strong> is dedicated to improving the lives<br />
of older adults by providing appropriate advocacy, accurate<br />
informati<strong>on</strong> and timely assistance, access to affordable direct<br />
services, and funding to the Community Services System,<br />
the local network of human service agencies.<br />
Advocacy<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> empowers adults of all ages to<br />
be active advocates for elders, helping<br />
elders who require help to solve<br />
problems with health care and benefit<br />
programs, housing, c<strong>on</strong>sumer fraud,<br />
elder abuse, pers<strong>on</strong>al financial management,<br />
Medicare, Social security, and<br />
many other issues.<br />
With public policy: <str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> staff listens—<br />
through daily c<strong>on</strong>tact with individuals<br />
and organizati<strong>on</strong>s across the ec<strong>on</strong>omic<br />
and social spectrum.<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> speaks: as a respected authority<br />
<strong>on</strong> behalf of the needs of older adults<br />
before federal, state and local policy<br />
makers.<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> empowers: elders and their<br />
family caregivers are given accurate<br />
informati<strong>on</strong> to speak effectively <strong>on</strong><br />
their own behalf, through Forums,<br />
Fact Sheets, Newsletters, and Expert<br />
speakers.<br />
Assistance<br />
With more than 1,000 active volunteers,<br />
we enable older adults to take<br />
an active role in supporting the larger<br />
community and each other.<br />
The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Council</str<strong>on</strong>g> of Senior Citizen Organizati<strong>on</strong>s<br />
(COSCO) encourages all older<br />
adults to have an educated resp<strong>on</strong>se to<br />
a host of community issues.<br />
Members of the Retired and Senior Volunteer<br />
Program (RSVP), serve elders,<br />
families and children in many different<br />
community settings—more than 80<br />
in all.<br />
Neighbors Care Alliance Program<br />
volunteers enable older adults to<br />
remain at home independently. These<br />
grassroots groups provide home visits,<br />
shopping, transportati<strong>on</strong> for health<br />
care visits, and more.<br />
Through the Ambassador Program,<br />
more than 100 community-based<br />
trained volunteers provide informati<strong>on</strong><br />
and referrals to older adults and their<br />
caregivers in over 220 locati<strong>on</strong>s across<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>Pima</str<strong>on</strong>g> County.<br />
Services<br />
As the Area Agency <strong>on</strong> <strong>Aging</strong> ( AAA),<br />
Regi<strong>on</strong> II (<str<strong>on</strong>g>Pima</str<strong>on</strong>g> County), <str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> is the<br />
umbrella agency for aging issues that<br />
affect the lives of <str<strong>on</strong>g>Pima</str<strong>on</strong>g> County’s older<br />
residents and their families. <str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> also<br />
funds home-and-community-based<br />
services with allied local agencies.<br />

L<strong>on</strong>g Term Care Ombudsmen are<br />
fr<strong>on</strong>tline advocates for the resident<br />
rights of those who are living in elder<br />

Legal Assistance helps elders access<br />
legal services.<br />
Elder Rights Services, formerly known<br />
as Ombudsmen Services, help adults<br />
resolve complex issues with agencies,<br />
businesses, and government.<br />
Health Promoti<strong>on</strong> – Living Well is a<br />
series of three evidence-based health<br />
promoti<strong>on</strong> programs for adults 60+<br />
about managing <strong>on</strong>e’s pers<strong>on</strong>al<br />
health, staying fit, and maintaining<br />
or improving quality of life.

<str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> has led the way <strong>on</strong> behalf of older adults in our community for<br />
over 40 years. <str<strong>on</strong>g>Pima</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Council</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>Aging</strong> (<str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g>) is an Ariz<strong>on</strong>a n<strong>on</strong>profit<br />
corporati<strong>on</strong> created by and for the older people of <str<strong>on</strong>g>Pima</str<strong>on</strong>g> County.<br />
Established in 1967, <str<strong>on</strong>g>Pima</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Council</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>Aging</strong> has been and c<strong>on</strong>tinues to<br />
be ahead of its time. <str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> was the first <str<strong>on</strong>g>Council</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>Aging</strong> in the State<br />
of Ariz<strong>on</strong>a and served as the model for the nati<strong>on</strong>al network of Area<br />
Agencies <strong>on</strong> <strong>Aging</strong>. <str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> is <strong>on</strong>e of eight Area Agencies <strong>on</strong> <strong>Aging</strong> across<br />
the state today.<br />
In its role as a designated Area Agency <strong>on</strong> <strong>Aging</strong> (AAA), <str<strong>on</strong>g>PCOA</str<strong>on</strong>g> is<br />
resp<strong>on</strong>sible for planning, coordinating, and funding of vital aging<br />
services to assist older pers<strong>on</strong>s and their family caregivers to make<br />
informati<strong>on</strong> decisi<strong>on</strong>s that allow them to live at home or choose a<br />
viable opti<strong>on</strong>; preserve independence by accepting needed help; receive<br />
accurate informati<strong>on</strong> and counsel <strong>on</strong> a range of aging issues of c<strong>on</strong>cern.
