VICKI ALVAREZ
VICKI ALVAREZ was born and raised in San
Francisco, CA but currently resides in Los
Angeles. She has her BA in psychology
with a minor in dance from Cal State
Northridge, and has recently completed
her master's degree in dance/movement
therapy. She owns Let's Dance It Out, LLC
where she helps facilitate therapeutic
dance classes to promote social,
emotional, and cognitive skills for special
needs teens and adults in Santa Monica.
Her goal is to use dance and movement for
therapeutic healing and connection across
many populations.
Description of Piece:
This improvisational movement piece
describes an immersion process intended
to strengthen a sense of identity in a
second-generation Filipinx American
woman. By revealing the issues of colonial
mentality, assimilation processes, and
identity crisis — the start of decolonization
work begins.
TAYO
JOYCE, an eclectic visual artist,
versatile singer, songwriter, musician,
composer and producer, grew up in the Los
Angeles area for most of her life and
currently resides there. She paints vibrant
portraits, landscapes and emotion-scapes.
She creates a unique blend of electronic
music and R&B. Outside of being an artist,
she fixes and writes software, designs
(graphics, interiors & exteriors), and
participates in triathlons.
Description of Piece:
She will be singing a song that she
co-wrote & co-produced entitled “You Are
Worthy” with a painting she made related
to it in the background. This synth pop and
R&B reminds the listener that they are not
TAYO JOYCE
alone, and don’t need to go through
difficulties on their own. They are
significant, and are born worthy, nothing
can change that.
She will also share an upbeat song that she
co-wrote with a producer in Japan, entitled
“Just Believe”. This electronic dance song
is a call to believe and take action in the
face of fear & obstacles.

Haka incorporates full-body movement, voice, facial expressions, self-expression, mind, breath, spirit,
posture and action. It will connect you to your higher self and create unity with self and other. Haka

ARE YOU LISTENING?
It’s so cold lying there crying all alone
When your thoughts take you, on dark and winding roads
Bruised inside feeling, like you are not enough
Tears and pain blind you, can’t find your way out
I won’t judge what you will say, your troubles matter to me
You don’t have to be okay, it’s safe to share your story
Sometimes we get so caught up in the darkness, it’s
hard to hear the messages of love from those who
care about us the most. Clear your mind, light a
candle and get into the groove as you flex your
listening skills in this Fill-In-The-Blank Activity.
Below you’ll find lyrics to Tayo Joyce’s song, “You Are
Worthy”. Fill the missing lyrics into the white boxes to
unlock the full meaning of this tune.
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
You don’t have to keep your hurt inside.
You can say what’s on your mind
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
Can I put my arms around you? Cause I care about you
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
You’re worthy, worthy, worthy
How are you feeling? Have you been betrayed?
I am here for you, it hurts to see you this way
Here in this moment, you can make a change
It’s a new chapter, there’s always hope today
I won’t judge what you will say, your troubles matter to me
You don’t have to be okay, it’s safe to share your story
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
You don’t have to keep your hurt inside.
You can say what’s on your mind
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
Can I put my arms around you? Cause I care about you
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
You’re worthy, worthy, worthy
I love you the way you are,
don’t have to
hide, the scars on your heart
Breathe in revive, open your eyes, it’s time to rise
You are, you are, you are, you are,
you are worthy (So worthy)
You don’t have to keep your hurt inside
(Don’t keep it to yourself)
You can share what’s on your mind
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
(You are, you are, so worthy)
Can I put my arms around you?
Cause I care about you (Yeah)
“YOU ARE
WORTHY”
TAYO JOYCE
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
You don’t have to keep your hurt inside
You can share what’s on your mind (Don’t keep it inside)
You are, you are, you are, you are, you are worthy
(If you can only see what I can see)
Can I put my arms around you? Cause I care about you
(I believe) You are, you are, you are,
you are, you are worthy
You’re worthy, worthy, worthy
In our EXPANSION, we can also honor hour need for CONTRACTION. What in your life has felt contraction, and what
parts of your life needs and wants expansion?
