We are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved
benefactor Charlene Sperber who was the heart and soul of
WeSPARK Cancer Support Center, which was founded by her
daughter Wendie Jo. Charlene’s commitment, generosity and
belief in WeSPARK’s mission have been unwavering.
Charlene met her husband, Burt, at the age of fifteen. They
married four years later in 1949 and started a landscaping
business with one truck and three employees. Charlene and
Burt built their company, ValleyCrest, into one of the largest
privately-held companies in the United States, with 10,000
employees and over one billion dollars in sales. This colossal
success led to the couple’s philanthropic efforts in support of
WeSPARK, Shane’s Inspiration (Inclusion Matters) and
numerous other charities.
Charlene is survived by her children: Ellice, Michelle and Richard
Sperber; her sister Helene Heller, and her seven grandchildren:
Spencer and Daphne Velasquez, Emma and Molly Elizalde, and
Sophia, Ryan and Tyler Sperber.
