The Word on the Street

Halloween draws nigh,

so it’s time to decide

on a costume.

What was your favorite,

as a kid? Or what costume

do you wish you had been

able to wear?

SONNY GOLDFIN

of Blackwood would

love to have dressed

as The Man from

Glad. “I liked his

all-white costume,”

Sonny says. “A

superhero for purity

and cleanliness.”

As a ten-year-old in

Scranton, CATHIE

MCGEEHAN of

Haddonfield was

fascinated by the

exotically dressed

lady who sold

huckleberries doorto-door.

“That year, I

dressed as a gypsy.”

Haddonfield’s

MARIA GORSHIN:

“When I was about

nine, I dressed as a

flamenco dancer.

My mother had all

the components:

red-and-black skirt,

castanets, combs,

shawl, and fan.”

“I really wanted to

dress as Zorro,” says

NICK NICOLAY of

Haddonfield, “with

a mask, cape, sword,

and sombrero.” But

all his folks came

up with was a black

cape and a bayonet.

“I carved Zs in trees.”

As a ten-year-old,

VINCENT BELLIZIA

dressed as an FDA

inspector. “When a

homeowner opened

their door, I insisted

on inspecting their

candy to make sure it

was FDA-approved,”

he says. “I wore my

dad’s fedora, with

fake business cards

in the band.”

DEBBIE PECK, coowner

of Melange

Boutique, wishes she

could have dressed

“in the Cruella de

Ville costume I made

for my daughter,

Courtney, when she

was in first grade.

We both loved ‘101

Dalmations’ – still

do. It was a terrific

costume.”
