IRAN
SPRING-SUMMER 2020
Iran is a collection of 11 pieces of kilim tapestry,
cushions and table runner woven in only one
edition by Soudabeh Farahani.
This collection is presented in three subcollections:
Entirety, Division and Integrity.
All the rights are reserved for her.
Integrity
Entirety
Division
In this collection tassels are used to imply
different things; as in this piece they are
used to convey the feeling of turbulence in
the sea. Tassels are replacing a woven sea to
imply the agitation.
Integrity
Iran’s map is woven as a tapestry in three separate pieces in sizes 200 x 165 cm.
The color theme emphasizes on the dynamic nature of the entire land.
Since the creator of the artwork believes that
art, as a means of communication, in any
form does not deserve to deprive any rights;
in the texture of this collection, natural and
recyclable fibers have been used.
In this artwork, a weaving technique is used
that leads to the reaction of the texture to
different lights and creates a different visual
experience in different exposures.
Here, two different pieces of the work are
displayed with several different exposures.
Looking at the artwork from different angles
also creates a different visual experience in
terms of visual content.
Division
Division, as part of a larger whole, mentions ethnic and individual diversity.
Two pieces of these six pieces are smaller samples
of the large and original designs, and the rest are
designed and woven to convey separate concepts
based on individual and ethnic characteristics.
The dimensions of these cushions are 47 x 47 cm.
In “division”, tassels are used to suggest
the role of people who unite to create a
cohesive whole.
A total of 270 tassels are used in the
collection.
In two pieces of “division”, the colors used in the arrangement of the
tassels are referring to the dispersion of the Iranian tribes in different
parts of this land.
The same colors are also used in the texture of the whole collection.
(Empty spaces refer to Fars people.)
Entirety
The purpose of naming these pieces of the collection as “entirety” is in fact a warning, pointing out that the
overall image created in any level or quality is the juxtaposition of individual lines.
Color scheme and line spacing designed
in these pieces provide different visual
content depending on the viewing angle and
distance.
The table runner of this collection are
designed and woven in a width of 50 cm and
different lengths of 130 and 100 cm, which
can be used both as a table runner and a
sofa throw.
