Counties League Premier Division fixture.
A warm welcome to you all and especially
our visitors from CB Hounslow for this
Combined Counties Premier League
fixture. With both sides proving hard to
beat recently all the odds are on a tight
encounter and it is a chance for both
sides to put points on the board with most
teams in league cup action.
As I said last week the FA Vase draw hasn’t
been too kind, with a nice tie away at
Newhaven – a chance for revenge after
being on the wrong end of a result there a
few years ago! Whatever the distance, we
are lucky to have a very loyal band of away
supporters – it’s not unusual for us to
make up over 25% of the fans at away
games, and the relationship between fans
and players is great to see. You’ll also see
the fixtures for the rest of the season have
been released although naturally it is
subject to change in these uncertain
times.
We are very lucky to have fantastic
facilities here at The Racecourse Ground.
We have had a great relationship with
Lyne FC who have ground shared with us
since the start of last season, and whose
supporters seem to enjoy the
arrangement.

Hello and welcome to CB Hounslow FC players, staff and club committee and to all supporters in attendance
this evenings Combined Counties Premier League fixture.
It has been week since our last fixture and a welcomed break for our injury-stricken team but we have patched
up a few and they will be back on the pitch this evening or Saturday. We are not setting the world alight with
our recent form but we remain 4 unbeaten and we are focused to extend this run.
We welcome CB Hounslow, and despite recent form, they will be full of energy and desire with youth in their
side.
I have always admired the club’s model with manager, Barry Chapman, which focuses on young players
developing their game and then pushing them on up the football pyramid. The club have found themselves in
difficult circumstances with their ground and council in recent times so hopefully this can be resolved soon.
Congratulations to Elliott Carey who will make is 50th appearance for the club tonight.
We hope to see a great crowd this evening and thank everyone for your continued support.

Welcome back after a blank Saturday and hopefully some time for our walking
wounded to get patched up and ready for action tonight. Last weekend there weren’t
many results that helped us, although Southall could only scrape a draw at Frimley
Green. Sutton Common, Spelthorne and Hanworth Villa all won so it is as-you-were at
the top. Tonight’s visitors have only won one league game but with 3-4 games in hand
on those around them it is a slightly misleading position and they will be looking to
climb away from the bottom four with teams reaching the quarter-way mark of the
season. Last Sunday, I was down here watching Ascot Ladies and whilst the opposition
struggled we can take nothing away from some of the passing and movement of Darrel
Evans’ side, who also finished clinically on their way to a big win – match report later
on in the programme. The provisional fixtures for the full season are now available and
whilst they are sure to change, whether due to cup, weather or COVID-19, it does help
get dates in your diaries.

I feel sorry once again for Jersey Bulls in Division 1 as they now have to contend with
local requirements to only travel/play one match per week, which kinda screws up
their ability to fulfil their fixtures unless they can work around it but sending 2
different teams to the mainland for 2 weekend matches or restrictions are released.
The other team I feel sorry for is Stoke Gabriel, who were recently featured on the BBC
website having taken numerous hammerings in the South Western League. Last
weekend they lost 17-1 at home against Ilfracombe Town to take their goal difference
to minus 151 after just 12 league matches. I’m not sure if they will make a late surge for
the title, but who knows. Anyway, back to business, back to wining ways for us please.

FOOTBALL IN BERKSHIRE
Here, Tom Canning writes his weekly grass-roots update for programme editors. His
website, Football in Berkshire, is a staple for local grass-roots football.
Bayley heading back up the pyramid
It was great to see last week that Harrison Bayley made the step back up to the Vanarama
National League having previously featured there for Hayes & Yeading United.
Testament to Bayley is that he is a crowd favourite with a number of clubs in Berkshire
having lifted the FA Vase with Thatcham Town, helped Bracknell Town to the Isthmian
League play-off final and had spells with Binfield and Highmoor IBIS.
He started the season with Marlow but will now join a number of former Thatcham players
including Callum Willmoth and Kyle Tooze at Hungerford, joining up again with new
Crusaders manager Danny Robinson.
It wasn’t the only bit of news out of West Berkshire this week, The Crusaders were involved
in one of the more bizarre goals you’ll see this season when James Harding ensured a
second successive National League South win for Hungerford at Tonbridge Angels.
The striker pounced on a ball thrown out by goalkeeper James Shaw for what he thought
was a free kick. Only Harding appeared to realise the referee hadn’t blown the whistle and
ran the ball in to the goal to give Robinson’s side a 2-0 win.

HAMMERS DELIVER BLOW TO ASCOT HOPES
Cobham fight back to draw 1-1 as Ascot drop vital points
Tuesday 13th October 2020 - Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League
Premier Division - Ascot United 1 - 1 Cobham
Disjointed Ascot United drew 1-1 against a spirited Cobham side on Tuesday evening, further denting their early
promotion hopes. In a match the home side expected to win, they took the lead soon after half time courtesy of James
Richardson, only to be pegged back on the hour-mark by lively winger Danny Campion’s breakaway goal.
Both sides’ league matches this season had yielded four goals per game so it was somewhat surprising that this
game produced just two, although the odds were still in the home side’s favour against their mid-table opposition
having come into the game on a three-game unbeaten streak.
The first half was a fast-paced affair, and it was the returning Harrison Cliff who pulled most of the strings for Ascot,
who enjoyed the lion’s share of possession.
That said, Cobham threatened at each end of the half. Firstly, when Ben Senior slipped the ball in from a breakaway for
Campion, who shot low to the left of Sam Gray only for the dependable home keeper to get down well and make the
save. And, just before the break defender James King lofted the simplest of balls over the top for fellow defender Craig
Lewington, who should have done better than shoot straight at Gray.
In between that, Richardson shot over on the turn, George Lock’s thumping effort was tipped onto the underside of the
bar by Lee Norman and Lock again struck just wide after a good move saw Cliff play in Taylor Morgan to tee him up, but
Ascot also drew blank and it remained goalless at the break.
But, Richardson gave the home side an early lift in the second half when he ran across the defence onto a through ball
before dragging a left-footed shot across Norman and into the net.
However, Cobham retained their optimism and duly levelled when Campion galloped into acres of space and thumped
a powerful volley past Gray; 60 minutes played and all-square once again.
Defender Dan Bailey might have nodded his side back into the lead from Richardson’s cross fifteen minutes from time
only to scuff his header wide as team-mate Harry Laflin also challenged, but Cobham still posed a threat and
substitute Callum Wilson screwed wide when well placed two minutes later.
Stand-out player Campion became a sit-down player when he was sin-binned for dissent in the 82nd minute, all-butending
his air-time as only three minutes of injury time would later be played, but credit to Cobham as they looked
more likely to score in the closing stages, even if both they and Ascot failed to muster a clear chance.
Ascot will take seven days to regroup before their next fixture, also giving them time to try and find their missing
jigsaw piece - if it is elsewhere than the treatment table.

ASCOT UNITED LADIES
Ascot United Ladies are up and running in the Southern
Regions Women’s Football League after a comprehensive win
over Warsash Wasps on Sunday afternoon. Darrel Evans’ side
quickly recovered from going a goal down to run out 10-1
winners, taking their first three points of the season after
defeat last weekend.
Freya Johnson (pictured) scored to pull her side level in the sixth minute, barely a minute after Wasps had
taken the lead, and would even Amy Woollard made it 2-1 in the 8th minute before Dom Carrington (21’), and
both Johnson (28’) and Woollard (32’) added to their own tallies to make it 5-1 just after the half-hour mark.
However, the visitors weren’t helped when they lost a player with a shoulder injury early-on, and after she
had departed for hospital they were down to the bare bones as a couple of players went down with cramp.
Carrington’s cross-shot found its way in via the ’keeper’s hand to give Ascot a 6-1 lead at half time, and after
Evans changed the shape in the second half his side relaxed and knocked the ball around with more
confidence. Laura Spark had a solid game in defence, mopping up most of what Warsash could muster,
although credit goes to the visitors who plugged away in the second half only to be restricted mainly to
long-range efforts, which Lisa Phillips confidently dealt with.
After Johnson had completed her hat-trick, impressive winger
Georgia Bowers found the net with an audacious cross-shot to
make it 8-1, before substitute Nicole Brown bagged a late
brace – although she might have had two more – had it not
been for a couple of good saves from the overworked visiting
’keeper. The Ladies travel to Abingdon United next Sunday
(2pm). Meanwhile, Ascot United Ladies Reserves lost 4-2 at
Woking Reserves last weekend.

Ascot United Ladies play in the Southern Region Women's’ Football League – the highest level at which they
have competed. The Ladies’ section starts down at the junior level with a host of teams – beginning with
mixed teams at U7 - rising through girls’ sides from U10 up to a senior Development (reserve) side playing in
the Thames Valley League. The junior sides operate on Saturdays or Sundays, with the Seniors (First and
Development) playing on Sunday afternoon. The first team are managed by Darrel Evans and coached by

CLUB HISTORY - ASCOT UNITED
Ascot United as we know it, was founded in 1965 by a men’s team who played their games at Sunninghill with “after
match meetings” in The Wells in Cheapside village (now Mikado’s). teams playing as long ago as 1928 under the name
Ascot United but nothing to link them directly to the current club. In 1965, the club had gained permission from the Ascot
Racecourse Trustees to convert the land east of coach park 10 into a football pitch. A wooden clubhouse was built and
this team went on to win many prestigious trophies in the years that followed.
Various youth teams represented Ascot United over the years up to 1988, and 1992 the East Berks 7-a-side Association
was formed by our then Chairman Keith Wicks introducing small-sided junior games and having disbanded in 1980 the
men’s team also reformed. The club continued to grow, entering into partnership with Charters School and being
awarded FA Charter Standard status in 2004. The men’s senior team enjoyed early success through the East Berks
League gaining continued promotions to the Senior division and winning various Cups including the Fielden Charity Cup
in 1996/7. 2001 saw the 1st team join the Reading Senior League and winning the Evening Post Senior Cup at the
Madejski Stadium in 2006. Promotion to the Hellenic League soon followed in 2007, followed by promotion to the
Hellenic Premier Division in 2009. The club today has grown to become one of the largest Community football clubs in
the UK with over 1000 registered players and over 70 teams playing every weekend embracing all ages and abilities
from 5 year olds through to Vets. A new clubhouse opened in September 2010, together with an improved main pitch,
floodlights and a stand.
The club has enjoyed much success at all levels particularly in the Ladies and Girls Section where they are regularly
winners of leagues and county Cups. Our senior Ladies won promotion to the Premier Division of the Southern Region
Women’s’ Football League in 2017-18 and consolidated their position with a mid-table finish in 2018-19. Meanwhile, 2018-
19 was an outstanding one for our junior Boys’ teams who won an array of county cups at various age groups, a feat
we’ve rarely previously achieved.
The past decade has been hugely successful for our first team; our debut in the FA Cup in 2011 attracted 1,149 people to
the Racecourse on a Friday evening where the famous trophy itself was on display and the match was streamed live on
Facebook. Between 2012-13 and 2015-16 we reached the Quarter Final of the FA Vase twice, enjoyed two top-three
finishes in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division, and won both the Bluefin Sport Challenge Cup and Perpetua
Press Floodlit Cup. More recently, our players’ development took the spotlight, as a host of Yellamen have enjoyed
success with other local sides and many of our talented development players stepped up into the first team. After
finishing 2017-18 in style, in 2018-19 new manager Jamie Tompkins led his side to the top of the table for long spells,
winning two team-of-the-month awards, and finishing with league cup glory once again by defeating Windsor 3-1 on 6th
May.
We were transferred into the Combined Counties League for the 2019-20 season, playing on our new 3G pitch facility,
which transformed the club by facilitating more of our teams’ matches and training at The Racecourse. The stronger
platform facilitated further player development, and Jamie’s young side would lead the table for long periods before
establishing what looked like a title-winning margin at the top shortly before the league was aborted due to the global
virus pandemic.
Jamie has retained most of his squad for the 2020-21 season and they are eager to make another attempt at winning the
title. One of the benefits of not winning promotion last season is that we will re-acquaint with some of the new friends we
made along the way! But most importantly, the club is committed to ensuring the health and safety of players, officials
and supporters so that grassroots football can continue to thrive in the way that it should.

CLUB HISTORY - CB HOUNSLOW UNITED
CB Hounslow United F.C is a Football club based in the London Borough of Hounslow. The team was
originally named Richmond Rangers, and was a collection of friends and local troubled youth that
where losing their path in life.
In season 1987/88 Richmond Rangers where disbanded and reformed in 1988/89 under the name
of CB united.
CB Hounslow United FC carry the community flag for football and support in Hounslow, since the
demise of the historic Hounslow FC which was formed in 1884. Community support is the essence
of what we do as a club.
Currently the club supports Promise Academy for 16 to 18 year olds. With a sports and educational
programme. Promise Academy Mini Kickers and OHM Sports Mini Kickers
CB stands for ‘Cater Bank’ which was the company co-owned by the late father of our chairman
Frank James. CB Hounslow played in the Hounslow & District Football League with some distinction,
and after 5 successful years we were promoted to the Middlesex County Football League (MCFL) in
1994/95 . That’s when we then took our present name CB Hounslow United.
CB Hounslow United 1st team played for 11 years in the MCFL before being promoted to the
Combined Counties in 2005/6 season. The club is now affiliated to the Combined Counties League,
Middlesex County FL, West Middlesex Sunday League, Allied Counties Youth League, Surrey Youth
League, West Middlesex Youth League and Harrow Youth League and CGL.
This season and going forward the club has now a Patron: Mr Max Lea MBE a stalwart in football,
who come up through the referee ranks and played football for Old Parmiterians Football Club. His
support to Club is hugely appreciated and can only benefit the club going forward.
Also, Frank the owner of CB has handed the reigns over to Mr Dave Fuller who will become the
Chairman of the board. Allowing Frank to concentrate on just football matters as he enjoys running
a team. Dave comes with a huge amount of experience. He is a MCFA Councillor and has officiated
in Middlesex for over 50 years and CB itself for 20 years.
The club this season will be competing in The FA Cup, The FA Vase, The FA Youth Cup and MCFA
Senior Charity Cup amongst many other Cups.
As always we would like to thank our numerous sponsors, who donate to the youth teams and the
main body of the club and also help greatly with the fundraising. The club continues to grow its

As a club we have over 50 volunteers who make up our management, coaching and secretarial
staff who without them the club wouldn’t be where it is now.
