CHILDREN AT WORK –
There are many reasons why children have to work. Some help their family make a livelihood. Others,
who run away from unhappy homes, need to support themselves.
In this activity you will be answering the following essential questions.
ACTIVITY 1
Read the story “Children at Work”. Answer the following questions.
1. Why do Velu and his sister have to work?
2. What about Jaya? Why does she have to work?
3. What are the different reasons as to why children are forced to work? Give at least 3 reasons.
ACTIVITY 2
FACT FINDING
How serious is the problem of child labour in India compared to other countries?
Has the Government taken any steps to eradicate the problem of child labour? What are they?
List any three steps. Has it produced the desired results?
ACTIVITY 3
EVERY DROP COUNTS
What are your views on this problem? Do you think Children can take steps to eradicate this
problem? How? List at least 2 specific steps that the children can take up to fight child labour
effectively.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Take up each activity and write short reports on each Activity separately in about 60 to 70 words
each.
You may use pictures to illustrate your points if it is required.
Do not exceed 2-3 A4 size sheets. All things should go into a single document
You have to write in your own handwriting.
Then it can be scanned and uploaded in Google classroom just as you submit other assignments.
Margins have to be drawn.

The entire work must be original. You may collect facts and figures from the internet/magazines or
newspapers reports. But your work should not be a copy- paste version.
CONTENT – 4 MARKS , PRESENTATION – 2 MARKS, ORIGINALITY AND CREATIVITY – 2 MARKS
