About
Laura's & Marina's daily dialogue and dedication leads to experimentation with natural raw
and modern materials, creating a plethora of designs and works
Laura Tapini is a conservator of antiquities, with an academic background from
Ravenna | Italy and many years of experience in the field and in teaching in Europe, Asia,
and Africa, where she has worked on a variety of art. Having been trained in classical
art and graphic design, as an artist she draws inspiration from knowledge of color,
material theory and a great sense of illustration and detail.
Marina Kassimi, is an interior designer, with great experience in conceptual development,
space planning, executing designs and who over the years has researched, coordinated
and managed several projects. Today she is expanding her vision in design through the
mosaic's contemporary world.
Laura and Marina met at the number 13 of an Athenian alley, to work on a challenging
project creating a large-scale 3D mosaic piece. It soon became clear, that this
collaboration was the beginning of a long journey of creativity in the mosaics' colorful
world.
That was the moment that 13 Mosaic Studio was established.
Their work is created using ancient mosaic art and craft techniques, where each piece
of material is cut by hand with a hammer; these materials are mainly marble, natural
rocks and where needed the use of smalti and tiles. In 13 Mosaic studio, Laura and
Marina create and reflect on mosaic in modern and innovative ways. They also pay
homage to the mosaic-makers of the past whose techniques were the cornerstones
for today's dynamic explorations into the medium.
Each new project is a challenge for 13 Mosaic Studio, where antiquity meets modernity,
creating solid art pieces, thanks to a special mix of mortars, ideal both for interior
design and exterior spaces.
