The benefits include:
♦ A distributed exchange platform, where a large number of organizations participate
in – and benefit from – BASCAP both as providers (sharing knowledge and information
from their experiences and activities) and as users (benefiting from the online
resources).
♦ Connecting information currently provided by existing sector and organizational
websites that may exist in isolation from similar efforts in other industry sectors or
in different regions of the world.
♦ Expanding the existing knowledge network by putting the internet-based, information
pipeline into the hands of a greater number of actors; generating content for educational
and outreach products; and serving as an accessible, international platform for
communicating business messages.
♦ Informational resource for global media.
Requests for information, case studies, strategies and best practices were initiated at
the end of 2004. Several organizations supplied information in order to create a data
management and input system, and provided content to the site. Once the website
prototype became available, the first and second generation sites went online in 2005
with partial sponsorship received from the Business Software Alliance (BSA). Below
is a visual of BSA’s contribution to the Business Software Gateway. Sponsorship has
subsequently also been received from the International Federation of the Phonographic
Industry (IFPI).
