Notes from the Director

September 13, 2019

I am thrilled to begin this journey with the talented and expressive

students of the Cobb County Center for Excellence in the

Performing Arts at Pebblebrook High School. While there has

been much to learn in my first six weeks, they have been filled

with joy, new beginnings, and collaboration with the incredible

vocal and performing arts department of CCCEPA.

In our initial endeavor, we examine the history of the monarchy

and how it has set in motion our on-going journey towards an

intertwined equality—the same dream conveyed by Martin Luther

King Jr. in his most famous speech. As the façade is peeled away

there is no difference between the oceans of Hawai’i and the

wheat fields of Kansas, where the ‘King’s Daughters’ are reflected

in our own human struggle.

Tonight’s program highlights music by royalty, about Kings and

Queens, written for royal occasions, or pieces sung by artists with

an honorific title (e.g. Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul).

I’m looking forward to our first concert together and can’t wait to

see how we continue to grow in my first year at CCCEPA.
