JOANNA, 21
Model, Photographer
If anything, I feel like lockdown has made me tap into
my creativity even more than I did before. It really
allowed me to explore my mind and think up new ideas
that have helped me to grow as a creative massively.
M CA$H, 19
Model, Artist
It’s given me a lot of time to work on my confidence and
who I am as a person. It was definitely a good thing for
me. It sparked my creativity for my music as lockdown
gave me a break from law school.
KENECHI CARMEL AMAMGBO, 19
Model, FCP, Painter
I spiralled being one of 20 in an accommodation and
having a lack of human connection. Lockdown impacted
my own mental health and therefore the way I saw my art.
I finished my projects prior to lockdown so to start doing
work again I had to be inspired and intentional. I’m more
conscious with my work now it’s a self-motivated process.
GIULIA, 24
Designer, Creative Director, Stylist
For every creative it’s been hard to adapt. I’m never alone
because I never found the time to be alone with my own
thoughts so during quarantine I felt like I’ve been through
different phases. Not understanding how to evolve without
knowing the future was a case of problem solving. I then
started listening to myself and evaluate what I’ve been
through and be present.
KHADIJA, 23
Stylist, Actress
It has impacted me but not negatively. It’s important to
know how to be alone and be comfortable in your own
company. The best thing about the creative industry is
how dynamic it is and it’s ability to adapt. I’m definitely
much more confident now and It has everything to do
with lockdown.
EFREM, 23
Designer, Visual Artist
Yes, because I was extremely stressed out by the
pandemic occurring in Italy, UK and Syria. At first, I had
no creative energy, but I took it as a point to educate
myself on my community. I felt that my Arab/ Italian
culture wasn’t represented which led to me coming up
with a fashion movement to represent my community.
“Hot Cozy Arab” is a sign of pride. I’m much more aware
now and ready to face the game.
LASH, 25
Jeweller Artist
Yes but in a positive way, it gave me a lot of time to myself
and work on my creativity, make stuff I like and art
as opposed to making stuff for clients. It’s brought a lot
of opportunities through my craft. I approach everything
I do within my creative fields differently because of lockdown.
I see my craft a lot more than just a hobby.
BRENDAN, 23
Model, Art Direction, Branding, Graphic Design +
Strategy
Lockdown has pushed me to explore new ways of being
creative, especially when we had limited access to resources.
However, the way I find inspiration is much different
now as well as how i navigate through a creative
block. The way you communicate with creative people
has also changed now everything is digital now as opposed
to in person and you miss the 1-1 interaction.
MARIAM, 21
Model, DJ
Yes, there’s a lot of waiting around now to go ahead with
projects. Things aren’t as quick as they used to be. Before
Covid things were fast paced but now they’re super
slow which affects the work you produce.
MANU, 24
Model, Photographer, Art Director
I spent lockdown in Martinique. It gave me the space
that I needed mentally and physically to put things in
perspective and gave me the opportunity to tap into my
old drawing skills + photography. I felt more creative
freedom and it was a blessing in disguise.
JASSIRA, 19
Model
I feel like it’s impacted me in a good way, during
lockdown I was planning shoots to collaborate
with people and mood boards for me made it easier
to plan everything. I’ve always been a planner
but lockdown helped me develop that way more.
OTTAWA, 20
Model
To me lockdown has made me more open minded about
the industry and during the lockdown period I’ve been
able to understand more about myself and the impact I
want to have on this industry.
