Our proposal seeksopportunities to remove the various walls and barriersand to create a traversable place central to the city.In order to define the character of different sections,surrounding urban edges are identified. In certain areas,the relationship is redefined through interventions tovehicular traffic and adjacent entities are included tobuild a strong and vibrant social and economic space.Taksim has a very crucial role in the pedestrian networkof the city. The main circulation routes are simplified toframe and guide locating different spatial nodes.PARKPARKPromenade MeteIconic VoidSquareRecognizing the VoidWe recognize that rituals of political discontent aretraditionally celebrated on Taksim Square. The proposalembraces the right to protest by respecting the void whilemaking it amenable to other uses at the same time.RenaturalizationThe nature is brought in from the park and it is used toblur the border between Mete Caddesi, the promenadeand the square. Lawns, water elements, meadows,grasses, flowers and a tree canopy allow nature backinto the core of the city and to develop a rich urbanecosystem.26IntegrationOur spatial strategy aims to interweave different activitiesand spaces that are defined at critical intersections andgaps. Each one of these spaces are carefully identified inrelation to its proximity to the existing context and its rolein the square as a whole.
