After a day at the beach
there is nothing better
than coming home and
gorging on a few icy cold
pieces of watermelon.
Watermelon contains only
46 calories per cup and even
though it is 92% water, it is
high in vitamin C, vitamin
A and many health plant
compounds. Here are a few
ways to enjoy November’s
pick of the month.
Watermelon, fetta
& mint skewers
Staying with the Greek
theme, watermelon, fetta &
mint skewers; cut watermelon
and feta into cubes. Sandwich
2 watermelon cubes with
cube of fetta and fresh mint.
Insert a skewer to secure.
Serve icy cold (delicious
with Mezze plate on
previous page).
Watermelon Pops
Cut watermelon into wedges
and insert a paddle pop stick.
Freeze 2-3 hours, they make a
great alternative to ice cream
for a kids treat.
Fruit salad
with a twist
Combine chopped
watermelon, mango,
strawberries, blackberries
and lychee on a platter to
form a yummy fruit salad.
Process ¼ cup raw sugar with
4 basil leaves and the grated
rind (zest) of one lime to
form a fine powder. Sprinkle
the powder over the fruit
salad and serve as a delicious
refreshing dessert or snack.

Asian greens, Hass
avocadoes, Broad
beans, Baby carrots,
Green beans, beetroot,
capsicums, peas,
green onions, Zucchini
and Zucchini flowers;
meanwhile the top fruit
buys are: blueberries,
blackberries, raspberries,
mulberries, cherries and
mangoes will come into
their own – especially
Calypso and Kensington
Prides. Also look forward
to seedless watermelon,
grapes and pineapple.
