Our Donors
The Fund for the Visual and
Performing Arts
Getting to know our donor partners and helping
them realize their philanthropic goals is one of
the joys of our work. Patricia Scott was born two
months before the stock market crash of 1929, just
a decade after the Spanish Flu.
Now in her nineties, Pat’s life has been filled with
social work, music, sculpture, and community.
While working at UCSF Children’s Services, Pat
befriended supervisor Shirley Reece, sharing a
passion for classical music.
When Shirley passed away recently, Pat desired a
way to remember her friend and the music they
loved. Pat called the Community Foundation to
discuss her planned giving and discovered there
wasn’t a visual and performing arts fund for the
entire county. She knew it was meant to be that
she create the Fund for the Visual and Performing
Arts as a memorial for her friend.
“I went to the Foundation because Mendocino has
really been my family since I moved here in 1972,”
she says. “I’m not married and don’t have a family. I
give to the community and they give to me. That is
what I value. But the whole county needs art. I
want this to be open and wide enough for everyone,
amateur and professional artists alike.” By
supporting and honoring what she most treasures,
Pat is able to create a meaningful philanthropic
legacy.
