Action plan for environmental
technologies
Following the adoption of the Commission
Communication on "Developing an action plan
for environmental technology" COM(2003)
131 final, a number of dedicated technology
platforms were established to provide common
forums for research, industry and policy
and promote innovation in particular areas.
All platforms have to prepare a “Vision paper”
for the year 2030 and a “Strategic research
agenda” to meet the 2030 targets. The CEETB
is involved in four of these platforms.
Participation is also envisaged in a fifth
platform currently under creation and dealing
with solar thermal.
Photovoltaic
The CEETB participates in this platform
through the AIE. The latter is a member of the
Steering Committee and of the Market
Deployment working group.
More details are available in the AIE section
of this report.
The CEETB attended the general assembly of
the Photovoltaic Platform on 19 May 2006.
Hydrogen and Fuel Cells
2
The CEETB joined this platform and two of its
working groups (Deployment strategy,
Education and Training) in December 2004.
In March 2006, the CEETB contributed to
the business development strategy, which
draws recommendations to stimulate the
emergence of early market opportunities in
hydrogen and fuel cells and to evaluate
action needed to bridge the gap between
innovation and commercialisation.
The CEETB participated in the platform’s
annual meeting of 5-6 October 2006.
Construction technology platform
In this platform, the CEETB focuses on two
working groups “Cities and buildings” and
“Quality of life”. The groups have presented
their vision 2030 documents and action plans.
Water and Sanitation technology platform
The participation in this platform is co-ordinated
with the GCI-UICP, which participates
in the working group on “Urban and periurban
water systems”. The working group
has finalised its vision document, strategic
research agenda and implementation plan to
define the way forward for the water and
sanitation industry until 2030. CEETB (GCI-
UICP) had submitted detailed comments
during the drafting process.
