Why is Amazon the best company in the world?

According to the Brand Finance Global 500

world ranking, Amazon has become the

most valuable company in the world.

Amazon has reached the first place in the

ranking of the most important brands

globally. Beating up to Google and Apple

Amazon is an American multinational

technology company based in Seattle,

Washington, which focuses on e-

commerce, cloud computing, digital

streaming, and artificial intelligence. It

is considered one of the Big Five

companies in the U.S.

How did they do it?

Amazon frequently be in on new sectors and

that is one of the reasons why it grows

considerably. For example, Amazon give in the

Whole Foods Markets chain, distributing it in

physical stores. Likewise, it diversified the

brand and reached more users, improving its

reputation through the creation of original

content (series and films), the purchase of

sports broadcasting rights.

David Haigh, who is a professor at ESAN's International

Diploma in Logistics and Operations, says that the value of a

company, in this case Amazon, depends on four variables.

what are those 4

variables?

The first is related to the ability to generate income; that is to say, effective sales in

the market.

The second is to improve profitability and margins on those sales.

The third variable is based on the efficiency of the use of assets: warehouses,

transport vehicles, fleets, inventories, etc.

The fourth is the management of expectations in the market.

Amazon, which started like any other startup, has known how to innovate, The digital

transformation also allowed it to open up to many opportunities in the market and, so far,

it seems that its growth will continue to be constant. It is a clear example of how any

company can become a larger and more profitable firm by managing every logistics

aspect in the best possible way.

In my pont of view i think that despite starting from zero like any other company the great

ideas of the director wich includes a great technologyit is what made them grow as a

company, for example now Amazon have the proposal of change the delivery trucks for

delivery drones, this idea already was approve, but they are in progres, so... As i said

before the great use of technology was what made them grow.

CORONAVIRUS

Advances in animal surgery

WHAT'S INSIDE?

Description

Potential therapy

WHAT IS IT?

Accurate medical

description of FIPV

Listening to the word "Covid" or “Coronavirus” now is all in a day's work for us, so far we only

knew that this disease only affected human beings, but what would you do if I tell you that

Covid-19 is present in animals too?

Feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV), a feline coronavirus of the family Coronaviridae,

causes a fatal disease called feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) in wild and domestic cat

species. Several organs, including the liver, lungs, kidneys, eyes, and central nervous

system, are affected in cats that develop FIP. It has been found that itraconazole (ICZ) and

adalimumab (ADA), which are used in veterinary medicine, must be the key to reduce

the proliferation of FIPV. However, the therapeutic effects of ICZ and ADA in

cats with FIP will remain unclear unless both can hit back the FIP.

PROCEDURE

Including results and

conclusions

Ten specific healthy cats were inoculated intraperitoneally with FIPV. To the cats that

developed FIP, ADA was administered twice between day 0 and day 4 after the start of

treatment. ICZ was orally administered daily from day 0 after the start of treatment.

The results were that two of three cats showed improvements in FIP clinical symptoms and

blood chemistry test results. One of the cats give in to treatment and was euthanized,

although the viral gene level in ascites temporarily decreased after the start of treatment.

Researchers finds themselves with their back to the wall now that they get to know that

the two remaining cats had to be euthanized 60 days into the study, those results were only

short-term outcome. But not everything is bad news, this is a groundbreaking study where the

researchers have found that the combined use of ADA and ICZ, which are presently available

to veterinarians, might be effective for the treatment of FIP, or at least cause it to go into

remission in some cats.

New advances in medicine, whether human or animal, allow us to dream that one day we will

be up to the battle with cancer, diabetes, AIDS, and a variety of diseases with no known

cure. We could be at our highest level thanks to the devotion of our medical staff who are

barely sleeping, but always trying to find the cure for a disease as deadly as Covid-19, in

fact, the cure has already been found.

We can’t stop fighting and we won't, as the well-known writer Dr. Seuss says:

"UNLESS SOMEONE LIKE YOU CARES A WHOLE

AWFUL LOT, NOTHING IS GOING TO GET BETTER.

IT'S NOT."

Houses with minimalist style

October 8th.

Natalia Lavie Garcia1

Minimalist architecture is about

achieving better design through

simplicity – a simplicity of form, space,

materiality, detail, and color. Minimalist

design also shows restraint and a

careful paring down and editing of

spaces to get to a place of clarity.

Many minimalist houses have a

simple, straightforward, efficient

plan layout with stacked

volumes of spaces. This creates

clarity in the plan, where spaces

are predictable and

uncomplicated.

Simple forms, open floor plans,

minimal interior walls and an

emphasis on views and daylight

are defining characteristics of

many minimalist floor plans.

The spaces have a lot of light and space for a better view.

In the project beside, the material palette is limited to mostly

concrete and glass. Yet, the board-formed concrete provides

texture and interest to the minimalist interior design.

This is weird because i didn´t like this style of design

before, but since i start my career of interior design I

studied and search a lot more about this and I love it, i

think it is a super clean style where you can see clearly all

the details and the accesories that the house have. You

should have some details in your house with this design.

SMART HOME SECURITY

SYSTEMS

By: Eduardo Andrés Baca Ledesma

SAFETY IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE THAT

CONCERNS ALL OF US TODAY, FEELING SAFE

INSIDE OUR HOME.

Introduction:

The number of Smart Homes is on the rise, as is the number of homeowners

wondering why smart home security the way of the future is. Here are 3

important reasons to make your home a safer environment in an easy and

comfortable way.

Trends:

Smart Home

Security

Why smart security to protect your home?

Smart home security provides peace of mind to the family, protects your

home and of course yours through high-tech monitoring, recognition, and

alarm systems.

O C T O B E R 2 0 2 0 | E N G L I S H L E V E L 6

A Smart Home isone whose electronic devices are automated to integrate

security, communications, and energy management. You just need to download

an application on your mobile phone, and you can control your smart devices

or access the video surveillance service wherever you are remotely. Not so long

ago, smart home security seemed meant for a few, but today, it is available to

everyone.

Advantages of integrating smart home

security:

Control of your home, inside and outside.

Thanks to the wide range of smart devices

available on the market, it is possible to

control the on and off lights or spotlights

remotely.

If you have a video surveillance system,

security cameras can have a motion lighting

system, through which possible activity

around the property is controlled. This makes

it appear that there is always someone at

home, which acts as a deterrent to potential

intruders.

As a complement to security, there are smart

video intercoms on the market that

incorporate speakers and microphones with

which the owner, even if she is not at home at

that time, can see, hear and speak wit whoever

is at the door or around her property.

Protection of the entire neighborhood.

Studies have found that having a smart alarm

in your home acts as a deterrent to potential

thieves. But not just in your home, but in the

entire neighborhood. Another advantage is

that, thanks to its smoke sensor, you will be

able to know, in real time, if a fire is taking

place. This is another reason why smart home

security is so important.

Short term savings.

Installing a state-of-the-art smart security

system seemed only affordable for a few.

Today everyone can have an intelligent alarm

system because who does not have a mobile

device today? In principle, it is all you need to

be able to control the security of your home

remotely.

Additionally, if we compare it with

conventional security systems, it is a much

cheaper option. First, because it is not

necessary for the installation to be carried out

by professional, you can do it yourself and

secondly, because the monthly fees, if any, are

much cheaper.

In my opinion,

today it is very important to

have smart devices in our

home, because there are

times when we are not at

home for work, study or

simply because

we want to go on vacation,

and we want to be aware of

what happens in our home

while

we are not, so a tool that

could facilitate us or

allow us to see what happens

when we are absent are the

intelligent security or video

surveillance systems that

connect to our mobile

through Wi-Fi or through

our phone company's

network. These devices are

made so that through an app

on our cell phone

we can thoroughly check if

there is any movement in the

house or

lock the door locks in case

someone wanted to enter our

home.

One of the biggest dilemmas as a students is choosing a career

and choosing a university. If veterinary is what you are looking for,

I´ll talk a little about five of the best universities in Mexico which

you should consider as options.

In fisrt Place we have La Salle, located in León in

the state of Guanajuato. Vet school has the

objetive of forming honest persons, who will

look fowards to the preservation of the species

and being as ethic as possible when making use

of their career. It has an agreement with the

León Zoo and Moroleón Zoo, as well as the

property of four ranches for the students to

practice and become the best vets. The lasting

of tis career in La Salle is of 5 years with both

title "veterinary" and "zoology".

On place #2 Universidad de Guanajuato.

Veterinary campus is Located between Irapuato

and Salamanca. Counts with a ranch for

students to get all practices done. It´s objective

for graduates is the application of methods,

techniques and procedures, typical of these

disciplines, to animal production systems and

veterinary medicine. The lasting of it´s career is

of 5 years.

In third place we have Universidad Nacional

Autónoma de México. It´s located in Ciudad

de México. This is one of the most famous

schools in Mexico and in many more

countries. Their objective is to promote and

maintain animal production and health,

prevent the transmission of animal diseases

to man, guarantee the production of healthy,

quality food of said origin. They count with a

ranch and diverse agreements with public

spaces where students can get their social

service done. The lasting of it´s career is of 5

years.

In fourth place we have Universidad de

Guadalajara, located in Guadalajara city. It´s

objective for the graduates is the welfare of

society and animals, through the proper use

of the latter, carrying out their professional

activities ethically within the current legal

framework. The lasting of it´s career

depends on the availability of the students

because it´s managed by credits and hours.

Last but not least we have Universidad

Autónoma Metropolitana, located in Ciudad

de México. The objective for the graduates is

to train professionals with attitudes, skills and

knowledge aimed at exercising

comprehensive skills derived from

occupational fields inherent to animal health,

welfare and production, as well as public

health and environmental preservation. The

lasting of it´s career is of 5 years.

DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS

SYRIA

Medicina Sans Frontieres (MSF)

By Ana Luisa Gómez Jiménez

AN INTERNATIONAL,

INDEPENDENT MEDICAL

HUMANITARIAN

ORGANISATION

What’s happening in Syria?

Civilians, civilian areas, and civilian infrastructure,

including medical facilities, came under direct fire again.

Thousands of people were killed or wounded, and many

more driven from their homes. Doctors Without

Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) continued to

operate and helping out in Syria but their activities

were severely limited by insecurity and access

constraints. I think that the Government must have

tried different strategies but they can’t control

something that has been going on for many years.

Providing medical assistance to

people affected by conflict,

epidemics, disasters, or exclusion

from healthcare is all in a day’s

work . Teams are made up of tens of

thousands of health professionals,

logistic and administrative staff -

most of them hired locally. Actions

must be guided by medical ethics

and the principles of impartiality,

independence and neutrality.

I admire those people who give

everything to help others, they

might have an enormous hear.

Where do they work?

In more than 70 countries,

Médecins Sans Frontières provides

medical humanitarian assistance to

save lives, holds up people in crisis

situations and tries to ease the

suffering.

War Zones

In war zones, they do not give in.

They provide medical care based

on needs alone, and try to reach

the people who need help most.

One of the ways in which they

are able to demonstrate

independence to warring parties

is to ensure that all of their

funding for work in conflicts

comes from private individuals –

they do not accept government

grants.

Before starting a new project,

and throughout its run,

they are continually assessing

risks

Each field mission has specific

and detailed safety regulations

in place, outlining strategies

and specific security measures

and responsibilities. Among

these regulations, MSF holds a

strict ‘no-weapons’ policy in all

of our clinics, vehicles and

health centres. For the safety

of their staff and patients, no

armed people must be in their

hospitals.

Highly experienced

staff

Working in a warzone can be

an extremely frightening,

stressful and disturbing

experience. Because of this,

they only allow highly trained

and experienced staff who

have volunteered themselves

to work in such situations.

The Syrian government

continues to deny repeated

requests by Doctors

Without Borders to access

government-controlled

areas. I think that in a

country where they should

be running some of the

largest

medical

programmes,

the

opportunities to reach

people and to respond in a

timely manner to the

enormous needs remains

extremely limited. People’s

life is the most important

thing and I admire the

volunteers who decide to

risk their lives to save

others.

Paul McMaster, a British surgeon who has worked

extensively with MSF, still finds high security

missions challenging. After returning from a

mission in Syria where he treated the wounded in

an operating theatre set up in a cave, he said: “I've

worked in many difficult places with MSF – war

zones like Sri Lanka, Ivory Coast and Somalia – but

while in those countries it was dangerous on the

ground, in Syria the danger always comes from

the air.¨

“It’s a much more oppressive type of danger,

having a helicopter hovering in the sky

above you.”

LETS TALK ABOUT WHY

Hold up a second and start thinking about where you

want to perform your dream to become the best doctor

in the world? , where you want to build your path in the

medicine? , where is the best option to estudy medicine?,

its inevitable to not think on United States because, well,

you know why, and if you don't, let me tell you that you

are a bad apple, and maybe you don't have a computer

next to you(you may have one trust me), but you will

not get away whit murder, you're in the correct place

and now my friend, you will understand why you should

study medicine in United States of America. First of all

UEA have the best school of medicine in the world(but

we will get there soon). American universities enroll an

average percentage of 5% of international students

from more than 90 countries on the planet American

universities are well-endowed academic centers, with

sports and technological facilities and large libraries

that function as true centers of information for the

student.

TOP 5 MEDICAL SCHOOLS IN

MÉXICO

How I’m going to choose my medical school? What can I do?

how I’m going to choose my medical

school? What can I do?

by Renata Pérez Briseño

Studying medicine usually involves 5 years of study at university, followed by

more training years at the start of your career. So it’s important to make sure

that medicine is right for you.

Being a doctor is a uniquely rewarding career. It is also extremely challenging so

in the end is all in a days work.

When applying to medical school, the influence of rankings on what schools to

apply could make you feel like you’re back to the wall, but this should depend on

your objectives. For an aspiring physician scientist, being at a top-ranked

research school that has the resources, aggressive publishing expectations,

postdoctoral fellows, and grant-writing expertise can enhance your academic

opportunities and set you up for future success.

At present there are more than 100 universities that offer Medicine in México, of

all of them, Dr. Hugo Radillo, a certified internist and resident in Cardiology,

made a selection until he obtained what he considers to be the 10 best in Mexico.

In order to make an adequate comparison between all of them, In his view, he

take as a basis the following general aspects:

•Adequate promotion of research from the early stages of the career.

•Classes taught by teachers and not by the students themselves.

•Collaborations with foreign universities to carry out student exchanges.

•General average of students graduated from the National Examination of

Applicants for Medical Residencies (ENARM).

•Satisfaction of graduated students.

•Opinion of other specialists and residents about the university.

NEW ADVANCES IN

SURGERY: EXOTIC ANIMALS

BY: YUNUÉN GONZÁLEZ LANDEROS

WHAT IS AN

EXOTIC

ANIMAL?

There is no precise

definition, but some

people define "exotic

animal" as anything that

is "wild" or not

domesticated

THE DAILY NIGHTMARE OF

SOME ANIMALS

We may have forgotten that we aren't the only

living beings on earth, and it show with our actions.

The care of exotic animals is usually a bit

complicated, since unlike pets, they don't have the

ease of going to the vet, due to their size, ther

location, etc.

They are very attractive to humans because of their

sking, horns, feathers, etc, so furtive hunters hurt

them to take these attractives i mentioned before

and then get away with murder. So that's why we

need to help them out and save them.

NEW ADVANCES IN

SURGERY:

RHINOS:

They are currently implementing a procedure to avoid

the all in a day's work of this monsters: killing these

animals. It is a surgical procedure to remove the

horns that eventually grow back. Before surgery,

veterinarians anesthetize rhinos to remove the horns

with a chainsaw.

DOLPHINS:

February 13th, 2019. A team of veterinarians

successfully extracted cerebrospinal fluid from a

dolphin, this is considered the first medical procedure

in cetaceans.

PENGUINS:

A penguin named Larry, had been found with a head

Building materials have come a long way in recent years. From the use of wood,

through cardboard, to the use of cigarette butts. Builders take advantage of

innovative solutions to reduce time and costs when designing their new structures.

Starting in 2019, luminous cement

will be applied in construction.

The Sunlight will be trapped and

accumulated by this material and

will be released at night.

Luminous cement creates a shiny surface that allows

administrations to save on lighting costs. This material can also

be used to illuminate swimming pools, paths and paths, thus

reducing dependence on public lighting.

Strength and durability was

increased by solid wood.

Although the technology was

already known, the new

regulations on the energy

footprint of building materials

benefit it.

The use of laminated wood enables builders to reduce the

carbon footprint of buildings by trapping carbon from the

atmosphere and reducing the cost of building materials.

Carbon fiber is now used in many different applications,

from household items to vehicles and airplanes. In the

construction industry, conditioning of buildings against

earthquake damage will be done using carbon fiber.

Because air quality is always a major concern for commercial

structures, the use of passive air filtration systems can

significantly benefit building owners.

The bricks are innovative building materials where the air is

Straw is a natural material that is obtained by separating

wheat, so in this sense, it is a residue of agriculture.

Therefore, it involves low energy expenditure for its

production and handling, which makes it a sustainable

materia

Also, the materials used like plaster: earth, clay, water, etc. They come from nature, and

except for lime, which is a more processed material, they hardly require energy

consumption for their production.

Trends come and go, however having a home with really durable materials is the

important thing. We may have the best in trends, but they are not always the best for

homes under construction.

nevertheless, all the materials on this list are totally interesting and they are great to

E-COMMERCE

PLATFORMS IN

MEXICO

Mexico is must in on e-commerce platforms, it offers

several platforms to shop online, as always the

internationals e-commerce platforms always get away

with murder. Most of the platforms that operate in

Mexico are foreign, among them the American ones stand

out: Amazon and Walmart.

That’s not to say there is no room for Mexican brands,

however, as the appetite for online goods strengthens, so

too does the opportunity for more e-commerce players to

enter the market. In this ranking, appear two mexican

platforms: Liverpool and Coppel.

Ecommerce Sites in Mexico 2020

1.- MercadoLibre

Mercado Libre is a marketplace created by the

Argentinian e-commerce and electronic payments company

of the same name. Mercadolibre may have around one

hundred twenty seven million active users in Mexico.

Taking these numbers into account, we must place it at the

first place in the list of the most used platforms in the

country. Something that we can affirm is that it is the best

known in all of Mexico.

My experience buying on this platform has been

excellent, I have bought several times and I have never had

a problem. Something that you must take into account

when making a purchase, is the reputation of the seller,

because there are some fake users who offer products that

perhaps in department stores are at too expensive prices,

and they offer them to you at a lower price than normal

and take the opportunity to rip you off.

PAGE | 02

Amazon:

Perhaps one of the most recent platforms in our country,

but with a similar operation and interface to Mercado

Libre. Amazon has around sixty-seven

million active users in Mexico, undoubtedly with these

numbers it puts MercadoLibre competition back to the

wall.

|E-COMMERCE PLATFORMS IN MEXICO |

There has been bad blood between Amazon and

Mercadolibre in recent years, due to the dispute that

exists for being the main electronic commerce platform in

Mexico.

My experience buying with this platform may not be very

good, since 1 year ago I tried to buy some electronic

items but they had to import them from the United

States and the shipping was going to take a long time, so

in the end I decided to cancel the purchase, because the

courier service only gave me the following answer: We

regret to inform you that some services may be delayed due

to the export policies of USA..

In the future i hope to be up to how to buy easily in this

platform, because i think the shipping way is badly and

slowly in comparisson to MercadoLibre.

Walmart:

Since the introduction of its e-commerce platform,

Walmart Mexico has cemented itself as the most

popular variety store in the country offering goods across

three overarching categories: supermarket, electronics,

and home. Walmart covers consumer needs for

everything.

Liverpool:

Liverpool has an estimated twenty-one million active users, in

my opinion, this brand it must be the best known Mexican

electronic commerce platform, due to the department store has a

great fame in our country. I have never bought on the online

platform of this brand, but I have heard good experiences

from people who have made purchases on their website.

Perhaps the prestige that this department has in Mexico has

helped it out to grow up in the e-commerce in this bussiness

segment

Coppel:

Coppel today is a megamarket, both online and in-store,

offering a wide range of goods from prominent brands across

categorie like electronics, home and furniture, fashion,

automotive, sports, and travel.

I remember when the e-commerce boom in Mexico was

just beginning. Walmart hit back the e-commerce with a

smear campaign, because they were losing consumers in

their physically warehouses. Finally they gave in with e-

commerce and nowadays they are a strong competitor in

this segment.

My Personal

OVERVIEW

I think E-commerce is the direction that

department and self-service stores take in the

future, due to the situation that is being

experienced today with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many people are currently choosing to buy items

online with a single click without leaving home, so

if the brands want to still alive, they need to hold

up in this kind of business segment. I'm sure that

E-commerce platforms may have to work very

hard to improve their shipping methods and times

if they want to continue growing in this area.

WHAT ARE THE SMART MATERIALS AND WHY

ARE THEY USED IN CONSTRUCTION?

The smart materials produced by the Smart Factories

are the new future concepts that we will see in the

future of architecture, because technology and

digitization are increasingly in all areas of our life.

An smart material is one that produces a certain effect

or observable change, when it is stimulated to various

factors.This

materials opens a whole new range of

possibilities in construction.

WHAT TYPES OF SMART MATERIALS ARE

THERE?

The company that is dedicated to the development of

this type of materials, have created a classification

based on their function.

Photoluminescent: Those who carry out any light

emission process.

Piezoelectric: Those materials that, subjected to

mechanical stress, become polarized and acquire a

difference in potential and electrical charges.

Chromoactive: they show color changes due to external

processes like electric currents, ultraviolet radiation,

etc.

Electro-rheological and magnetoreological: They are

composite materials that respond to magnetic fields

with a change in their viscosity, plasticity or elasticity.

With shape memory: capable of returning to their

original shape after being exposed to deformation.

WHAT ARE THE SMART MATERIALS IN THE

CONSTRUCTION SECOTR?

Construction materials are a very important research

and development field, in which a search is continually

being carried out to improve their properties as well as

the energy efficiency of their manufacturing processes,

most of which I am going to mention are still in

process. research.

Eco-efficient and thermochromic

cement

Eco-efficient and thermochromic cement, which

changes color according to temperature, so that it can

be used as a smart coating.

Self-healing concretes, thanks to a series of silica

microcapsules. They are filled with an epoxy resin and

in the event of a crack or break in the concrete, they

would reduce or repair it completely.

Self-healing concretes

A clear example of these materials, which is already

being used in some smart buildings, are windows that

regulate the entry of light and heat according to the

time of day, avoiding unnecessary costs in heating or

air conditioning. Some include solar panels on the

windows, taking advantage of the energy they receive

from photoluminal emissions.

Windows that regulate the entry of

light and heat

Smart Materials or smart materials are not science

fiction elements, far from it. They are already in the

present, revolutionizing other branches that in turn

will mean a paradigm shift such as robotics, the

internet of things or 3D printing.

I think thath the future in the construction has a lot of

great and unimaginable ideas, I would never have

imagined all this kinds of materials would help in

construction to be smarter, easier and faster to build.

E C O F R I E N D L Y M A T E R I A L S .

¿What are ecofriendly building materials?

Are those that have been obtained

from renewable or sustainable

sources.

Although it seems strange, the

materials used by ancient

civilizations to build houses have

these characteristics, an example of

this is the straw that today is used as

an insulating material.

For the finishing of the construction, the earth plaster is used very

effectively, which compared to the traditional one is not toxic.

¿WHAT KIND OF ECO-

FRIENDLY BUILDING

MATERIALS ARE THE

MOST COMMON?

Innovative products derived from

renewable and sustainable raw

materials enter the market

frequently; Those that are already

available so that you can take into

account when buying eco-friendly

building materials and prices of

these are:

Ximena Martínez Mares

Glass: $49.50 m2

Stone: $13.25 m2

Treated wood: $20. 45 m2

Lime plaster: $2. 85 25 kg

Mud: $0.65 piece

Rock: $4.5 m2

Sand: $0.35

Adobe: $0.65

Clay: $11.75 kg

Concrete is one of the most used materials to

lift works; However, rocks are a sustainable

solution that also act as solar lamps do, by day

they capture the sun's heat, being cool inside

and at night they provide heat to the

environment.

Currently the use of

wood in

construction is quite

restricted due to

deforestation of

forests, but it is

allowed to use logs

that have been

knocked down or

fallen naturally.

If you do not have the possibility of

acquiring all the materials to make an

eco-friendly construction, you can

reduce the environmental impact by

visiting works or constructions that

are about to be finished or are

already finished to ask if they have

surplus materials that they can offer

you.

OLD HOME VS NEW

HOME

Do you know where the way your house is built comes from?

D I D Y O U K N O W ?

In order to prevent the walls

to falling down, it was

impossible to make big

windows.

House structure

The old houses should be quite simple, since not having

efficient construction materials such as reinforced

concrete or steel beams, the houses could not be very

spacious, in addition to having very thick walls to prevent

them from falling.

Adding to this, before the invention of the stove your

only source of heat was your fireplace, therefore your

kitchen and living room were the same, so most of the

time the house was impregnated with smoke so they

lived under the weather.

The Frankfurt kitchen

"The invention of the kitchen

:0"

However, at the beginning of the 20th century, our

rescuers appeared, the gas stove, and the architect

Margarete Schute-Lihotzky who planned to build the

house that would make the domestic tasks as efficient as

possible and designed the Frankfurt kitchen which was

designed in such a way that you could do many hygienic

things in a small place

And having a new heat source for cooking, you could

finally separate the kitchen (a concept that did not exist

before) from the rest of the rooms.

From here the houses arise as we know them today, but

of course now we can even afford to build glass houses

which are able to hold on .

In my opinion, when a house is built with big windows

and a challenging geometry is almmost always to keeping

up with the Joneses, but also these houses are

breathtakingly beautiful, and even its structure helps the

house to being illuminated all day, so this way those type

of houses are eco-friendly too.

OLD HOUSES VS

NEW ONES

E M I L Y N K A R I M E C I S N E R O S

Q U I N T E R O

If it is the first time that we become

independent as if it is due to a change

of residence, buying a house is not an

easy decision due to its cost and the

importance it represents on a personal

level. To avoid unpleasant surprises

once we have moved, it is advisable to

take into account a series of aspects

that will help you choose the ideal

house. Starting with whether we want

an old house or a new one.

In my experience, I would prefer a new

house, since new houses are easier for you

to make the modifications to your liking, on

the other hand, in an old house, to begin

with, the house minimum was built two

decades ago and is made to the taste of

someone else.I have lived in both types, a

new house and an old one and a lot of

money had been spent on the old house,

so if you don't wanna spend that much, I

don't recommend you an old house.

NEW HOUSES

New construction is done with the

purpose of lasting for a while, so that

the new owners will not have to repair

a lot of things. They can contain

biodegradable and highly

technological materials, and you can

find these houses at a lower price

than an old one.But the disadvantage

of new houses is that sometimes to

modify it to your personality and

taste, many hours would be spent

on the project.

OLD HOUSES

Old houses have weathered for

decades, others for centuries, and have

weathered many storms. Some have

been built by true craftsmen, with

meticulous attention to detail.Classic

and dated houses often have very high

prices. And this becomes an advantage

and also a disadvantage, because for

example, if you want to buy it it would

be super expensive, but once you have

it the house could have been sold at

a large profit.

These facts have been

proven by architects

and designers, but in

the end it does not

matter which house you

choose, as long as it is

to your liking and you

keep these

considerations in mind.

technology, you will be able to

play your favorite series, videos,

and movies wherever you want.

I see it very useful if you do not

want to spend on a smart screen

that is very expensive

Your devices that are connected to

the current can be control with this

gadget , the plugs in which you

have it connected can be turn on

or turn off by your phone, it is

extremely useful for people wh o

forget to disconnect chargers.

It is very useful to me if you are a

person like me who forgets to

disconnect the laptop charger just

to give an example

Without having to clean it yourself you will

be able to always have your house clean

with this device, the floor will be cleaned

by this automatic vacuum cleaner,

recocone the walls and surrounds to be able

to give great detail to your floors.

It makes me good to save time or if you have

a lot of dust, the disadvantage is that it will

not be completely clean and you will have to

mop.

Thing of the past will be buying a

can be drink by the sink faucet ,

this simple device only overlaps

any faucet to purify and bring you

water with a maximum

purification.

It makes me a super useful gadget,

it saves you a lot of money in the

future at the moment it is a very

expensive expense, but in the long

run you see its good results

As we can see the color blue is almost present in all the trends

of 2020, and "Free spirit" by Jotun, is not the exception it

represents the perfect combination between blue and green,

giving that feel of nature to the spaces.

This color was proposed by Jotun as another option to give

spaces a feeling of sophistication and serenity, with this warm

color you can combine accesories made of wood.

This orangy-brown color is perfect for natural spaces,

the name itselfs suggests that it gives you a feeling of

desire for adventure, nature, and it's the color you are

looking for a bohemian design.

The last, but not for that less important color is

the soft green mint denominated as "Exhale", gives

you de silence and feeling of the sea, it's a

reminder to have a daily break and just to relax.

Well, as I was saying before, the variety of colors

that were shown this season are very nice, we have

a lot of blue and green shades, but my favorite shade

was the Adventure shade by Jotun because it looks

like my favorite color which is Terracotta. Also this

2020 its obvious that the color of the nature is very

present in almost every trend.

Do you agree with classic blue as the color of the

EARTH TO COLORS

Housing trends

PALETTE

INTERIOR DESIGN

The beauty of interior design

begins enhancing from the ability

to morph and adapt our last trends.

so you have to be tested on your

interior skills.

STEP BY STEP

The first step to creating a gorgeous

natural bedroom is to try and stick to

cool grey / light beige wall colors.

Be sure to let in as much natural light

as possible, after all the outside wants

to be invited to the party!

EARTHY FEEL

Adding plants is a must be! It will

be more welcoming to an earthy

feel! also you could stick to earthy

colors such as burnt orange, tan,

beige and soft greens.

INTO THE WOODS

In my opinion adding natural elements

of wood offers an opportunity to create

a calming environment much like being

outside. For many of us spending a lot

of time indoors, this is a welcoming

feeling. This doesn’t mean you need to

be neutral or too safe!

YES OR NO?

I remember being taught that it´s

important to know that top interior

design trends can be incorporated

into your own personal style.

MY OWN EARTH VIBE

I´m sure everyone has it´s own style, as

me I love to get that minimal vibe, since I

was little my parents would take me to

every interior design store, they are

designers, so I was always involved in the

latest trends.

Normally when you think of Greek

architecture, Doric columns and

statues may come to mind. That’s

half true, each region has its own

distinctive elements and styles. In the

west and south, you’ll chiefly find

Venetian-influenced homes, over in

the east, you’ve got the typical

whitewashed styles.

Let’s start in the Ionian Sea, these

islands in the west are noted for their

stylish Italianate villas and

waterfronts.

Indeed, most islands reflect the

influence of the Venetian and

Genoese sailors and merchants.

These types of property are being

especially chosen by Greeks

due to their popularity.

A few buildings of this style will

be found in Crete, one of the

southernmost former Venetian

possessions.

They’re especially common in Chania

CHOOSING THE

LOCATION

TYPES OF PROPERTY

We’re all familiar with the images of

Santorini’s bright white villages

with their blue roofs. In the

Cyclades and Dodecanese islands,

properties have more of a Middle

Eastern look. They have great

natural cooling, with smaller

windows for plenty of shade.

Similarly, village properties in the

interior are normally built of

local stone and timber, generally of

sturdy construction. This is

particularly the case up in the

mountains, where winter has

been determined too chilly by

locals.

Most modern Greeks live in apartment

blocks, in Athens, are six storeys high each

with a balcony on which you can sit out and

enjoy a beautiful sunrise and the sounds of

the city below. In fact, a higher price is paid

precisely to avoid the sounds of the city.

It is completely unthinkable that you enter a Japanese house

with shoes by respect and tradition. The golden rule is to

The Japanese are also very careful to maintain a

separation between inside and outside - this is the

concept of uchi and soto in Japanese. Taking off

of respect. Note that they will also be asked to

remove their shoes by the temples.

They rarely have ovens, but they often have a grill

to prepare all kinds of dishes. Almost all of these

dishes are eaten with chopsticks, which also have

rules to follow.

THE TRASH

Japan attaches great importance to garbage

separation. This is separated into fuel and non-fuel.

Cans, glass bottles and plastic bottles are also

separated.

THE BEDROOM

Traditionally, the Japanese sleep on futons. If

you're using one, be sure to fold it up and put it

YOUR PARENTS RELATIONSHIP

TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS

E X P E R I E N C E

The society told us that in a "healthy" relationship

there are no arguments, but in reality there are,

because the main objective of the arguments is to fix a

problem that is harming us.

The context changes when your partner's only

purpose is to humiliate you in different ways, when

they tell you things that they know will hurt you

because that gives them power and makes them feel

they have "won".

But what happens when your parents have this kind of

relationship? Speaking from my perspective and

experience, it may not seem to be traumatic for us,

but it is, because that is the model of relationship we

are getting from them.

THE WAY IT CAN AFFECT YOU

Everything you've seen in their

relationship triggers a very low

self-esteem, so you get used to

giving or receiving bad treatment

from your partner,

The model of relationship you

have is your parents, so you

unconsciously let yourself go on

it.

it and that's okay, we can't all

realize it so soon but we can

always analyze how our actions

affect others.

This is what you can do to change it:

-Ask your partner if you ever made

them feel bad because of your actions.

-Change what you noticed it was

wrong.

-Listen to your partner if they

admitted they were wrong.

-Analyze the attitudes you take when

you get angry.

-Listen and remember when your

partner told you that you hurt them.

Tips that will help you notice if

you're following your parents'

steps:

-You told your partner hurtful

things that you knew it would hurt

him/her/them.

-Your partner made you feel guilty

about something dumb and refused

to admit it.

-You have more bad times that

good times.

-There isn't a day you don't

discuss.

Electronic dance music (EDM), also known as dance

music, club music, or simply dance, is a broad range of

percussive electronic music genres made largely for

nightclubs, raves and festivals. It is generally produced

for playback by DJs who create seamless selections of

tracks, called a mix, by segueing from one recording to

another. EDM producers also perform their music live in

a concert or festival setting in what is sometimes

called a live PA.

Electronic dance music, also known as EDM, umbrella

term for a panoply of musical styles that emerged in

the mid-1980s. Rather than designating a single genre,

electronic dance music (EDM) encompasses styles

ranging from beatless ambient music to 200-beats-perminute

hardcore, with house music, techno, drum and

bass, dubstep, and trance among the most-notable

examples.

A strong emphasis on rhythm is

therefore common to most styles of

EDM, while ambient music, which is

less focused on maintaining a beat,

provides an aural cushion for settling

down at the end of the night.

Furthermore, EDM recordings are

produced primarily to be played in

dance clubs by disc jockeys (DJs), in a

mix with other recordings of the same

type, rather than by home listeners—

though many tracks have crossed over

to the pop audience.

Considered as a whole, electronic dance music is

characterized by several defining features. It is typified

by deliberately inorganic sounds and timbres,

frequently produced by cheap early-1980s gear—such

as the 303 bass synthesizer and the 808 drum machine,

both made by Japanese electronics firm Roland—or

built from samples of previous recordings. Live

instrumentation and singing are often featured but

usually as a garnish rather than the main dish. Most

In this exclusive interview, the Grammy Award-winning French DJ and songwriter talked about how music

could help the world wade through ongoing crises, and why listening to music is becoming a more solitary

practice.

If there is one word that is recurrent in David Guetta's discography, it is 'love'. From his debut album, Just

A Little More Love released in 2002, through the 2009 breakthrough One Love (which featured the Grammy

Award-winning 'When Love Takes Over'), to his latest track with Sia, 'Let's Love,' the word has been

synonymous with the French songwriter and DJ.

But it is not merely a buzzword, as Guetta insists in an exclusive interview. "That’s the beauty of music.

Even in the most harsh situations, music sees us through. It has the power to transform us into a world of

hope, where hatred doesn't exist. All that exists is love.

"He agrees that his hometown Paris has shaped him as an artist, as well as the mood he likes to stir up

through his music. "Paris is all about love. Be it the cafes, the hotels, friends enjoying at a club or just the

streets thronged by couples and families spending quality time together. All of it oozes love," he says.

The maker of hits such as 'Memories,' 'Sexy Bitch', and 'Titanium' talks about why he felt the urge to make

'Let's Love' with Sia over Zoom calls, the debate over live concerts vs live streaming, and whether his

music transcends nightclubs, to comfort listeners in isolation during times of social distancing.

Birth name: Pierre David Guetta

Age: 44

Origin: France

About him: Guetta had already topped

the charts in 12 countries before will.i.am

snagged him for production duty on the

Peas' unavoidably infectious 2009 party

anthem "I Gotta Feeling." Now he's the

go-to dance-pop producer – and has

helped pave the way for dance music's

recent pop takeover.

Artists he's produced for: Black Eyed

Peas, Kelly Rowland, Pitbull, Flo Rida

Artists he's remixed: Madonna, Black

Eyed Peas, Snoop Dogg, Shakira, Flo Rida

His sound: Squelchy, endorphin-emitting

synths. If "ecstasy" were a sound effect,

it would be named "Guetta."Track that

best captures his essence: The Black

Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling."

On his style: "Is it dance? Is it urban? It's

difficult to say," Guetta told Rolling

Stone in 2010. "But it's very exciting."

Why was it important for you and Sia to make 'Let's Love' at a time when it feels like hate is taking over the world,

given the pandemic and the consequent political crossfires?

The pandemic has definitely had a huge impact on the global music scene, and my thoughts really go out to all the

people that work within the industry. I’m very lucky because I don’t have to think about what I’m going to eat the next

day, but it’s been very tough on a lot of people in the industry. For me, it has actually been a very productive period

and I’ve also really enjoyed the down time. Sia and I wrote 'Let's Love' via Zoom sessions during isolation and it was

inspired to give hope, spread love, and unite people during this crazy time we’re living in. It’s purposely made to be an

uplifting track. People wanted to listen to music that made them feel good. I’m really inspired to produce feel-good

music.

'Let's Love' feels inspired by another era — Synthwave from the 1980s. What are your memories from that time, and

did you organically drift towards that genre?

When I think of feel-good music I’m naturally transported to the '80s. They were simpler times where everyone was

together. No matter how bad the situation got, we were undivided. That’s what we need now, which is why I think I

drift to this genre now, more than ever. We need to remind people about sticking by each other rather than turning

against one another.

Has the lockdown increased your creativity, or did you use this period to pursue other endeavours?

I’ve continued focusing on music throughout the lockdown. My creative juices haven’t just flown towards creating new

music, but also towards doing something unique and keeping the world connected even while apart. I’ve hosted two

concerts through the lockdown, one of which had 8,000 people dancing from their balconies while I performed for 90

minutes. That was something really cool! I’d love to do more of these.

Do you think socially-distanced concerts like these are the future, or will we go back to the foot-stomping frenzy soon?

As far as we know, the virus isn’t ending anytime soon. So live streaming seems like a great option. Even after the virus

is gone, thousands of people gathering doesn’t seem likely. So this really does seem like a safe bet.

Finally, at a time when the world is engaging in social distancing, do you believe your music is being enjoyed in

isolation, in solitude? Has it gone beyond the notion of EDM as being the sound of nightclubs and live gigs?

EDM tracks have been sounding the same for the past four years. We created something that has a new sound, and it

did create a huge buzz. Normally I don’t read any comments online, but with the Future Rave(Guetta's project with

MORTEN) releases, I loved to read the comments and feedback; people were really excited. For us, that was super

motivating and exciting, which is why we kept putting out more music.I’d definitely like to believe that my music is

being enjoyed even in the lockdown. Everything that I’ve created has an element of love, hope and joy, it isn’t all dance

and groove.

Mariachi is a traditional music

and a fundamental element of

the culture of the Mexican

people. Traditional mariachis

have two or more musicians

dressed in regional clothing,

inspired by the charro costume,

who perform a wide repertoire

of songs accompanied by string

instruments.

The original mariachi tradition was confined to the northwest of the Viceroyalty of

New Spain during the second half of the 18 th century. Its area extended along

the Pacific Coast from Oaxaca to San Francisco in upper California. In the early 20

th century, the first symbolic appropriation of this micro-tradition occurred when

it was adopted in the state of Jalisco. The second and definitive appropriation

took place in 1925 after the Mexican Revolution. Thanks to groups resident in

Mexico City, a new mariachi, promoted by the nationalistic politics of the

Cardenas period, was born under the aegis of the triad of mass media: the radio

broadcasting, record and film industries. The new mariachi style created in the

nation’s capital was represented as “from Jalisco.” Associated with cowboy singers

– the idols of the ranch song genre – it became the musical symbol of Mexico.

Modern mariachi, with its characteristic cowboy costume (visual code) and

trumpet (oral code), extended throughout the Hispanic regions of the United

States and Latin America. In the early 21st century, it has also taken root in

Europe and Asia.

Listening to the unmistakable and rhythmic

strumming of the vihuela, the guitar, the guitarrón,

and the notes of violins and trumpets, whether in

Mexico or abroad, produces a special sensation on

the skin and provokes a mixture of feelings of

delight and even nostalgia. that only mariachi music

produces. But beyond these emotions that go

through expressions of identity and nationalism,

few know that the mariachi has been recognized as

Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the United

Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural

Organization (UNESCO), for what on January 21 is

celebrated the International Mariachi Day.

WHY THE POP MUSIC

SOUNDS LIKE POP MUSIC?

Pop music / popular music

W R I T T E N B Y E M I L I A N O L Ó P E Z

Pop music (short for popular music) is a genre

of popular music that had its origin in the late

50s as a derivation of traditional pop, in

combination with other musical genres that were

booming at that time.

The terms pop music and popular music are often

used interchangeably, although the last one has a

broader meaning by accommodating genres other

than pop that are considered popular( rock, R&B,

hip hop, soul, and dance ).

Pop as a genre

As a genre, pop music is very eclectic,

often borrowing elements from other

styles such as urban, dance, rock, Latin

music, rhythm and blues, or folk.

However, there are essential elements that

define pop, such as short to medium-length

songs, written in a basic format (often the

verse-chorus structure), as well as the

habitual use of repeated refrains, melodic

themes and riffs.

The instrumentation is usually composed of

guitar, drums, bass, electric guitar,

keyboard, synthesizer, etc.

Being the last one the principal instrument

that makes it sound like the pop music we

are used to.

A great example were you can hear clearly the use of

bass and electric guitar is the song "Baby one more

time" by Britney spears, and another example wher

you can apreciate the synthesizer is "Bad romance" by

Lady Gaga, in my opinion thesse two songs are a

great example where you can hear the pure pop.

Madona(the queen of pop) said that every pop song

sounds very similar and the producer Juanchi Baleiron

said Madona was a little right, because all the music

has the same sounds and sonoritys.

But for me that is why the pop is to easy to listen and

disfrutate it, so that´s why the pop is my favorite

musical genre

Masahiro Sakurai

Masahiro Sakurai is the remarcable designer, videogame

creator, and director at Nintendo, responsible for directing

the Super Smash Bros and Kirby sagas.

The last game he has worked on was the successful Super

Smash Bros Ultimate, being the fifth game in the series and

having sold 21 million copies worldwide by September

2020.

For those who are not aware, Super Smash Bros Ultimate is

a game for the Nintendo Switch that was released in early

December 2018 and continues the series preceded by Super

Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

The gameplay is simple, players can control characters from

different famous franchises of other video games to attack

other players on stage during the game, using the various

objects and special attacks of each character. It is an

extremely fun and addictive game that has received great reviews such as 93% on Metacritic,

5/5 on Common Sense Media, and 9.4 / 10 on IGN.com.

Going back to Sakurai, the last we heard from him was his video explaining the most recent

character added to the game… Steve! Super Smash Bros Ultimate has added the characters

from the Minecraft universe, the best-selling game in history that has even surpassed Tetris by

more than 6 million copies sold.

The impressive collaboration initially had mixed reviews from fans, which is understandable

because everyone wants to see their favorite characters integrated into the series. However,

after some time, the players have accepted the character more and thanks to Sakurai's video

we were able to see the new abilities that were given to the character.

"Being able to participate in so many different types of content really makes me feel like I have

a job filled with happiness, and I'm looking forward to what we can show you next," said

Sakurai, who has spoken about his excitement to show off his next additions to the game.

despite the challenges that Steve's inclusion meant for the team.

"The trailer was also something we worked hard on," Sakurai said. "Seeing the fantastic

response, it really echoed that it didn't matter how much difficulty we had to finish it. It was

worth it." He also mentioned that the global COVID-19 pandemic also affected the

development of the new DLC (or character) in different ways, such as the fact that several

members of his team had to work from home in order to finish and add Steve (and company). )

Are they like us? and how many things we share?

Sometimes we think about celebrities as some kind of gods but they are really

regular people just like us.

I guarantee you that you could be sure about something, they take showers, listen

music, feel sad sometimes, eat food, nothing out of this world.

Also at some point we forget that they are humans like everybody else.

I mean being a celebrity must be difficult right?

Can you imagine it?

I asked if you could imagine to be a celebrity, well it is very difficult, just think

about it, everytime that you want to get to some place a crowd will be following you

and also papparazzis who can be very annoying.

To remind that they are like you I brougth you different photos of normal things

that we do just as celebrities.

Remember, not all the people were borned as stars, many of them worked hard to

became in who they are rigth now, in my personal opinion I can told you that money

is not an assurance for happiness.

develops a crush on, enters into a sexual

relationship with, and ends up truly

loving Oliver (played by Armie

Hammer), a 24-year-old graduate

student staying with Elio's family in

Italy in the summer of 1983.

In addition to his Academy Award

nomination, Chalamet was nominated

for a Golden Globe Award and a Screen

Actors Guild Award, and he received

best actor awards from the Los Angeles

Film Critics Association and the New

York Film Critics Circle.

In 2018 Chalamet appeared in Hostiles as a

French immigrant cavalry soldier in the Old

West, alongside Bale and Rosamund Pike, and

lost 20 pounds to play a meth addict in Beautiful

Boy, with Steve Carell. The following year he

piano and the guitar,” Chalamet said in an interview. “I already knew how

to speak French…But I picked up the Italian, too.”

Michael Jackson was one of the most important artists of his time,

creating unforgettable songs accompanied by incredible music videos,

adding this plus the great ability that Michael had to dance, he was a

showman. In this article i will tell you curious things about MJ's life, both

his life and his music, without a doubt Michael was a unique person in his

class, so we have a lot of material to talk about. Much of this information

was taken from interviews with the celebrity or with his family.

We can start by talking about the pleasures of Michael, as it is well

known that he had a fascination for going to Disney's parks, and he said

that when he went to those places, he would disguise himself so that no

one could recognize him, he even wore a mustache; Although something

stronger, is that at some point Michael wanted to be the protagonist in a

Spider-Man movie, he even almost bought the Marvel Comics company,

in the end this did not happen because Michael was busy with his tours

and recordings.

According to Michael, he said that for each concert he gave, he lost three

kilos, so he had to constantly drink Gatorade, he even says that his

favorite was orange; And speaking of concerts, Michael was a

professional on stage, this is especially noticeable in improvisations,

because many times it is known that the concert production made

mistakes with the sound and Michael had to fix them, or also, when a

very strong rain started on his concert and what he did was start skating

on stage, nothing crazy, he only gave small skids, but this shows how he

had fun at concerts.

We all remember the

mythical white glove, black

jacket, and hat that Michael

uses at Billie Jean concerts,

in an interview, one of his

brothers said that actually

the first time he used that

jacket, he had taken it to his

mother that night, and from

there she started using it

whenever Billie Jean

danced. As a bonus, the

glove and hat from that

night in 1982 were put up

for auction after his death,

for approximately $ 30,000

and $ 200.00.

The most expensive music video to date, yep, belongs to Michael,

for the Scream video, 7 million dollars were used, and it is said that

only in the makeup of M, 8 thousand dollars were used; speaking of

the videos, for the video They don´t care about us, two versions were

made, the one in Brazil, and the one known as the Prison Version,

the prison version was made because the Brazilian version did not

convince M, and he preferred to make one more explicit.

Michael wrote many songs, some for him and others for

collaborations, what few know is that the Queen's song- Another one

bites the dust, was written by Michael and the band's drummer

Roger Taylor, and in the end due to problems between Freddie

Mercury and Michael Jackson, the band recorded the song only with

Freddie's voice.

Speaking of collaborations, there is a photo of Michael and Paul Mccartney washing dishes in a

kitchen, many believed that this was a new song made by the two artists and that the photo was

part of the video clip for that song, Paul soon came out to say that this was false, luckily the

collaboration between both would arrive in the song Say say say.

I believe that Michael was and continues to be one

of the best artists that have ever existed, i have

listened to him since they were a child together

with Queen and i do not regret having known them,

their music is impressive and i will never tire of

hearing it.

<==And i did this recently hehe.

9/11 an event that changed the

life of thousands of people

Background

On September 11, 2001, the door was opened to one of the

worst events in history. It was an event in which thousands

of innocent lives were taken from their families. It was an

event that caused panic, fear, sadness, among many other

things. Let's take a look at the long-remembered 9/11...

What happened on this day?

That day, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist

group al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out

suicide attacks against targets in the United States.

Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the

World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the

Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane

crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. A total of

2,996 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks, including the 19

terrorist hijackers aboard the four airplanes.

Who did this?

The hijackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and

several other Arab nations. Reportedly financed by the al

Qaeda terrorist organization of Saudi fugitive Osama bin

Laden, they were allegedly acting in retaliation for America’s

support of Israel, its involvement in the Persian Gulf War and

its continued military presence in the Middle East.

Commemoration

On December 18, 2001, Congress approved naming September

11 “Patriot Day” to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11

attacks. In 2009, Congress named September 11 a National

Day of Service and Remembrance. The "Reflecting Absence"

by Michael Arad, consists of two reflecting pools with

waterfalls rushing down where the Twin Towers once rose

into the sky. The names of all 2,983 victims are engraved on

the 152 bronze panels surrounding the pools, arranged by

where individuals were on the day of the attacks, so

coworkers and people on the same flight are memorialized

together.

Testimony

Jillian Reid was only 21 years old. She explained that she was

running late for work at 1 New York Plaza. She mentioned

that she took the metro and there was a chaos. Someone had

announced that the twin towers had been hit and the

authorities would close the station. She decided to go by foot,

and when she made it out of the station, instead of going to

her job, she went on the opposite way.

Jillian said that she stood frozen watching ants falling

gracefully from the top windows of the World Trade Center.

She said she was shocked and her brain failed to grasp these

were people jumping to their deaths.

Jim Jones was born on May 13, 1931 in the city of Lynn, Indiana, in an environment of racial segregation and Christian

fundamentalism. His father, James Thurmond Jones, was ill from the gases he had breathed in the trenches in World War

I and it appears that he was a supporter of the Ku Klux Klan, although there is no record of his belonging to that group.

His mother Lynetta Jones was a worker who taught her son a love of animals, a concern for the underprivileged, and a

great imagination. Jones collected animals from the street and it seems that from a very young age he was clear that he

wanted to be a preacher because in the garage he was already preaching to the neighboring dogs and children. Jones

himself said that the Pentecostalism he was exposed to as a child had been a great influence on his life. In that

environment, Jones developed a concern for two areas that accompanied him throughout his life: racial integration and

socialism.

In 1954, as associate pastor of the Laurel Street Tabernacle, Asembly of God had already come into conflict with his bosses

because he insisted that blacks sit in the front rows. He soon formed his own church, the Community Unity Church, and in

1955 the Wings of Deliverance, which later changed its name to the Peoples Temple Full Gospel Church. Jones's message

was one of racial equality. For this reason, he was placed among the honorary positions of the Indianapolis Recorder, a

black newspaper, and in 1961 he was appointed director of the Indianapolis Human Rights Commission dedicated to

integrating the police department, hospitals, banks, loan agencies and telephone companies.

According to his wife, by the time they married in 1949, Jones was already a committed communist. He considered himself

a Maoist but was sympathetic to Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union. Jones himself spoke of his ideology as religious

socialism or apostolic socialism. Later, socialism becomes in its ideology "Almighty God, Socialism." In 1959 he had his son

Stephan Ghandi Jones and adopted other children of various races in what he called his "rainbow family." In 1960 the

People's Temple was accepted into the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.

The creation of the village

The People's Temple was created in Indianapolis, in the state of Indiana (United States) during the fifties. The Rev. Jim Jones and his 140 followers

moved to the Redwood Valley, in Mendocino County, California, believing that they would thus be safe from nuclear attacks that the United States

could be targeted. By the end of the 1960s, the membership of Jones's congregation had dwindled to less than a hundred and it was on the verge of

disappearing, but Jones managed to secure an affiliation with the "Disciples of Christ" denomination and that made the Temple survive. Jones'

affiliation with the church raised the reputation of the Temple and spread its influence throughout the West Coast area of the United States.

The congregation returned to its main church in San Francisco in 1971 and opened another in Los Angeles. After multiple scandals and

investigations in San Francisco, Jones decided to create a utopian community in Guyana where he would be safe from intervention by US

authorities, or members who had concerned relatives.

In 1974, Jones leased more than 12 km² of land from the government of Guyana, and members of the People's Temple began construction of

Jonestown under the supervision of the community chiefs. Jones returned to California to encourage all of his followers to move to Jonestown.

Jones' popularity grew tremendously in that period, going from 50 members in 1977 to over 900 members at its peak in 1978.

On November 14, 1978, US Congressman Leo Ryan traveled to the city of Georgetown, located 240 km from Jonestown,

accompanied by a delegation from Congress, journalists, and some dissidents from the sect, to check whether the accusations of

fraud, brainwashing, incarceration, and drug and gun trafficking.

On November 17, Ryan and his assistant were able to meet with several members of the community group. The visit took place

in a cordial atmosphere.

The next morning before Ryan returned, the atmosphere changed. Some residents asked him if they could leave the colony with

him. This unleashed the fury of some of the most fanatical and hardcore members. Jones considered it an unforgivable betrayal.

After that, the congressman was unsuccessfully attacked with a knife.

Around 3:00 p.m., Ryan and 14 deserters from the community, including Larry Layton, were taken to the Puerto Caituma airstrip

(11 km to the northeast). Once inside the plane, Larry Layton fired at the occupants, wounding several. Subsequently,

community members who had escorted Ryan's car fired at the plane, killing the congressman, three journalists, one of the

deserters, a mother of three who managed to flee, and wounding nine others. After riddling the congressman's body, they shot

him in the face. Survivors of the attack fled to nearby fields and another group entered the jungle where they were lost for three

days until they were rescued.

Collective suicide

A couple of hours later, Jones ordered all members of the cult to commit suicide.

According to the documentary Index of Evil made by Discovery Channel, Tim Carter assures that it was not a suicide, but a mass

murder, since it was Jim Jones who forced his people to drink and inject cyanide, starting with the children (who would not

commit suicide Instead, they were given the cyanide mixed with some drink, while some babies were ripped from their mothers'

arms to be injected) and elderly. Jones said that "death is only the transit to another level" and "this is not a suicide, but a

revolutionary act." One of his followers named Christine Miller opposed the death. But people began to insult her violently.

Children, adults, and the elderly died from the potion. The death toll was a total of 913.

Jones was found dead between two other bodies. The death was caused by a gunshot wound to the head that is not known to

have been inflicted by himself or if he forced someone else to kill him.

¿How the x rays where

discovered?

R E N A T A P É R E Z B R I S E Ñ O

X-rays were discovered in 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen

(1845-1923) who was a Professor at Wuerzburg University in

Germany.

¿How? while testing whether cathode rays could pass through

glass. His cathode tube was covered in heavy black paper, so he

was surprised when an incandescent green light escaped and

projected onto a nearby fluorescent screen. Through

experimentation, he said that he found that the mysterious light

would pass through most substances but leave shadows of

solid objects. Because he did not know what the rays were, he

called them ‘X,’ meaning ‘unknown,’ rays. Roentgen quickly found

that X-rays would pass through human tissue too, rendering the

bones and tissue beneath visible. News of his discovery spread

worldwide, he admitted discovering x-rays by accident and within

a year, doctors in Europe and the United States were using X-

rays to locate gun shots, bone fractures, kidney stones and

swallowed objects. Honors for his work poured in including the

first Nobel Prize in physics in 1901.

consequences

We barely think about it, it’s so weird

to think that not so long ago, a broken

bone, a tumor, or a swallowed object

could not be found without cutting a

person open.

Clinical use of the X-ray flourished, with

little regard for potential side effects

from radiation exposure. There were a

few early suspicions from scientists

including Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla,

and William J. Morton, each of whom

claimed to have seen injuries that they

believed resulted from experiments

with X-rays. But overall, early use of X-

rays was widespread and unrestrained.

¿DID YOU KNOW?

Even to the degree that during the

1930’s and 1940’s, shoe stores offered

free X-rays so that customers could

see the bones in their feet.

We now have a far better understanding of the risks

associated with X-ray radiation and have developed

protocols to greatly minimize unnecessary exposure.

While X-rays remain a cornerstone of modern

medicine, their discovery paved the way for the

development of today’s broad spectrum of imaging

techniques, including magnetic resonance imaging

(MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound,

echocardiography, and many others, some of which

avoid the use of radiation completely. Not a bad

legacy for an accidental discovery.
