Impact Resistant Windows and Doors
Weather Stopper
The Weather Stopper Impact Resistant product line is designed specially for coastal areas, and offers superior pro-
tection from high velocity wind and airborne debris. Specifically engineered to guard your home from the destructive
forces of a hurricane, this product has satisfied the toughest testing standards in the country. This remarkable product
line will be on guard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, protecting your home and providing you with peace of mind.
Homes in coastal areas can encounter some extreme weather conditions.
A hurricane’s destructive force can be devastating. When wind-borne debris
impacts a window and the glass shatters, it allows the force of the storm to
enter your home, resulting in extreme pressure being applied to the roof and
walls. Weather Stopper windows and patio doors have been designed and
tested to withstand impact from wind-borne debris and extreme wind pressure.
By combining a series of specially designed, interrelated components, we've
created a line of windows that will endure the elements and help protect your
home. From our unique, tilt latch design, to the positive action sash locks, to
our insulated glass with an impact resistant PVB interlayer, each element of these
windows has been carefully selected to perform, even under the most severe conditions.

The result is a line of windows and patio
doors tough enough to meet both the ASTM
and Miami-Dade County testing standards for
impact resistance. We've tested these windows
under hurricane-like conditions, including
driving rain, and then subjected them to
pressures that are equivalent to 180 mph winds.
Next, to simulate impact from wind-borne debris,
each window is impacted twice with an eight foot,
nine-pound 2 x 4, shot from a cannon at a speed
of 34 mph. Finally, we put these windows through 9,000 cycles of
positive and negative pressure to ensure that they still perform, even
after sustaining the punishment of these extreme conditions.
Impact Resistant Laminated Glass...
Is an integral element in the
performance of our Weather
Stopper product line. This
impact resistant glass is
created by laminating two
pieces of glass to a tough
plastic PVB interlayer.
When struck by flying
debris, the interlayer remains intact, providing valuable
protection for your home, while at the same time
preventing damage from wind and rain.
Florida Building Code Requirements
Withstanding the Storm
The Silver Line Weather Stopper Product Line was engineered and built to stand up to heavy winds and rains, and
wind-borne debris to protect you and your home during severe weather. For most standard residential homes of average
size and roof dimension, these windows will handle even the worst case scenario window location.
Florida Building Code Requirements
There are many factors involved in determining if a
window meets the appropriate codes and requirements
in Florida. Our Weather Stopper windows and
doors have been tested and certified to meet or exceed
these requirements for almost all one and two story
residential homes in the state of Florida. Your local
government will be able to assist you in determining
what local code requirements are in your area, but the
below factors will play a part in selecting the correct
window for your home:
• Wind Velocity (MPH): (see Figure 1) Different
wind zones have different rating requirements
• Importance Factor: The type of building
• Exposure Category: Area where the building
is located
• Mean Roof Height: Average height of the
highest roof
• Building Width and Length: Used to determine
wind load zones
• Design Pressure (DP): (see Wind Zone Chart)
Higher ratings indicate increased strength and
water infiltration resistance
• Location Zone: Corner windows require higher
DP ratings
• Roof Slope: (see Wind Zone Chart) A higher
pitch requires higher DP ratings
Conditions used to determine the Wind Zone Chart:
Category 1 Importance Factor, Category “B” Exposure,
35’ or less Mean Roof Height, building size of
40’ x 30’, window Location Zone of 4 or 5.
Structural and Thermal Performance
When Shopping For Windows, Look For . . .
A nationally recognized authority, AAMA develops procedures for testing and certifying windows and doors for
structural performance. To earn certification and a rating, products undergo rigorous physical testing at an AAMA
accredited test laboratory to measure air infiltration, water leakage, resistance to forced entry and design pressure.
Design Pressure (DP): Resistance to wind and other dynamic pressures. The higher the design pressure rating,
the better the window or patio door.
In addition, Impact Resistant windows are tested to ASTM and Miami-Dade County, FL specifications for impact
resistance. Tests involve laboratory simulated hurricane conditions, including debris impact, pounding rain, sustained
winds of 180 mph and 9,000 negative and positive pressure cycles.
®
NFRC labels are an accurate, unbiased way to compare the energy efficiency of windows.
Compare U-Factor: A lower U-Factor means you will stay warmer in the winter and spend less money on heating costs.
Compare SHGC: The lower, the better. A lower SHGC will keep your house cooler in the summer.
