34 SuperBikeFIRST RIDESYMNHT 200We recently did our adventure“Lite” article where we rodethe 250 Honda’s, 310 BMW GS,Zontes 310 T and KTM’s 390Adventure. So by comparison, this should be called Adventure“Super” Lite. Also, is Sym not only a Scootermanufacturer? Well, theyactually manufacture a fewmotorcycles for SA startingoff with a 125X Delivery bike and thentwo 200cc Trail Blaze models, alsoaimed at the delivery market. Sothis NHT200 with it’s smaller 125ccbrother is a new venture for them.I took a ride with my son Tristin aspillion to Harties and we did a fewdirt roads around there before headingback. So these are my findings on this bike.1.For sure it’s an entry level bike, suspension and finish is stylish buta little cheap, styling and look doeslean towards the adventure marketand is striking, my youngster loved it.2.19 inch front and 17 inch rearspoked rims with dual sport tyresworked a treat in the dust, were fineon the tar as well.3.For just below R36k, it actually offerslots of value, the 125cc is belowR30k, what can you buy for that?Nothing, so it does offer great valuefor money.4.I liked the digital dash, that willappeal to the younger audience forsure. Great having a fuel level, trip, odo, clock and gear indicator.5.Headlights are LED as well as tailunit and indicators.6.For the youngsters who are foreverliving for their next charge, there is aUSB charge socket.7.Engine is a 183cc fuel injectedsingle, I saw 139 km/h on it but itwas a mine shaft and I resembledsomething of arrow I was so flat onthe tank. It can do 120 but the motobuzzes, it felt as if it could go to CapeTown at 110 easily.8.Consumption: we rode it flat outand achieved just over 3.5l/100. 2.5or better must be possible but you’dneed to be patient and not in a hurry. With 11 litres tank capacity that’s agood range.9.Braking, my bug bear, but in truth, for the rider it is aimed at, it is spoton. I’m talking about the dual brakinghere. I tried to stand up and slide therear for a photo, but almost lost thefront till I realized the bike was doingthe front wheel braking for me. Butfor new riders who are nervous ofthe front, it’s actually ingenious. Ontar I could lock up the back but thefront was braking hard. So I have totake my first comment back aboutthe brakes. There is no ABS but notsurprised at below R36k.10.Three Colours are available, thisred and white one, then a blue andwhite and a black one.So in conclusion, yes you’d be able todo anything on this little bike that youwould on the bigger adventure bikes, just you’d need a little more time toget there. But in fear of repeatingmyself, it offers great value for moneyand I’m not sure why we don’t seemore youngsters riding around onproducts like this, surely they wanttheir own independence?
