SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS<br />
The Lafayette Catholic School System (LCSS) is operating at maximum system capacity across our schools. It is a top<br />
priority for the Board of Trustees and the Advancement Office to make our scholarship and financial assistance programs a<br />
top priority. In addition to a growing population, individual student awards have been significantly increased to make a LCSS<br />
education accessible to a diverse student population. Financial guidelines have been established to ensure all named grants and<br />
scholarships will be fully funded in perpetuity.<br />
For the <strong>2016</strong>-<strong>2017</strong> school year, the school system distributed more than $1.4 million in financial assistance and scholarships for<br />
527 students, with an average award of $2,655.<br />
Listed below are the various scholarships and grants offered to our students through the support of our many alumni, parents<br />
and friends. Students who are able to attend LCSS because of the generosity of others truly enrich the school through their<br />
various backgrounds, talents and abilities.<br />

ENDOWMENTS<br />
A financial endowment is a donation of money or property to a nonprofit organization for the ongoing support of the<br />
organization. The Lafayette Catholic School System has several endowments established between the Lafayette Area Catholic<br />
Schools Foundation, Inc. and Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc. The goal of these endowment funds is to allow the corpus<br />
to grow without withdrawals so the underlying corpus increases in value over time. Interest earned is available every year for<br />
the stated purpose of the endowment.<br />
A robust endowment is key to enhancing LCSS’s competitive edge over the public school system and providing stability<br />
during times of economic uncertainty. Our current endowments provide vital, budget-relieving source of revenue for key line<br />
items like student aid and professional development. LCSS is committed to the long-term outlook of our schools through<br />
endowment income growth.<br />
LAFAYETTE AREA CATHOLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION<br />
EIN: 35-1376312<br />
The Lafayette Area Catholic School Foundation, Inc. was formed in 1976 to receive Legacy Gifts to secure a solid foundation<br />
for the Lafayette Catholic School System. Since its inception, the foundation has been professionally managed and continues<br />
to grow. Today it has over 3 million dollars invested between two endowment funds. Methods of giving to the foundation<br />
include Gifts of Cash, Gifts of Securities, Gifts of Real Estate and Deferred Gifts. Deferred gifts include bequest through a will<br />
or trust and gifts of life insurance. The funds in the Foundation are always being put to use in the school system and continue<br />
to grow through donations and gained investment income.<br />
• LCSS Unrestricted Endowment<br />
– Provide funds to keep education as affordable as possible.<br />
• LCSS Teacher Salary Endowment<br />
– Provide funds to support teacher salaries.<br />
• Douglas W. Eberle Endowed Fellowship for Math & Science<br />
(Endowment Agreement Established for future Planned Estate Gift)<br />
– Provide funds to develop a meaningful fellowship to advance the math and science departments at<br />
Central Catholic Jr. - Sr. High School.<br />
LAFAYETTE DIOCESAN FOUNDATION, INC.<br />
The Lafayette Diocesan Foundation allows the donor to direct funds to support the Lafayette Catholic School System. It is<br />
professionally managed, centralized and cost-effective. Methods of giving to the foundation include Gifts of Cash, Gifts of<br />
Securities, Gifts of Real Estate and Deferred Gifts. Deferred gifts include bequest through a will or trust, gifts of life insurance,<br />
life income arrangements, charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity. Below are a list of endowment funds.<br />
• Lafayette Catholic School System Education Endowment<br />
– Provide funds to keep education as affordable as possible.<br />
• Lafayette Catholic School System Scholarship Endowment (NEW in <strong>2016</strong>)<br />
– Provide funds to support financial aid scholarships for students.<br />
• Rachel Stevenson Lafayette Catholic School System Endowment (NEW in <strong>2017</strong>)<br />
– Support general operations of the Lafayette Catholic School System.<br />

WAYS TO GIVE<br />
LCSS is grateful to have a giving family community consisting of members from each of our six supporting parishes, alumni, current<br />
and past parents, grandparents, faculty/staff and friends. Our supporters are true partners by generously investing in Catholic<br />
education for all who desire it.<br />
As a private parochial school, the raising of significant funds is critical to our ongoing success. This takes shape in several forms:<br />
ongoing annual fundraising, capital campaigns, endowment funds, and deferred or planned gifts.<br />
Ongoing <strong>Annual</strong> Fundraising<br />
Ongoing annual fundraising provides a meaningful portion of the dollars we offer in tuition assistance each year as well as critical<br />
support for our operations, co-curricular programs and activities, and facilities/maintenance needs. These efforts include:<br />
• Spirit Fund <strong>Annual</strong> Appeal<br />
The annual Spirit Fund replaces the bi-annual One-in-the-Spirit Fund appeal and provides unrestricted financial support for the<br />
entire school system. The appeal runs from July 1–June 30 each year. During this appeal, all supporters are asked to make a<br />
meaningful donation to make Catholic education possible and sustainable in Greater Lafayette.<br />
• Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO)<br />
An SGO is an Indiana state-sponsored program formed to grant financial assistance to K–12 children who meet certain eligibility<br />
and income requirements. Donors who contribute qualify for a 50% Indiana state tax credit and a federal tax deduction.<br />
• Special Events<br />
LCSS’s Advancement Office sponsors three special fundraising events each year. Your participation is essential in raising the<br />
critically-needed funding for areas deemed important by the school administration, committees and Board of Trustees.<br />

• Capital Campaigns<br />
Capital campaigns are required when LCSS needs to raise significant dollars to address extraordinary needs beyond that which is<br />
possible through regular annual funding efforts. Our last campaign, Building Faith & Futures II, raised more than $2 million in gifts<br />
and pledges. We recognize future capital campaigns will be required to increase the endowment funds, support critical building<br />
and grounds improvements, as well as other top priorities in Vision 2030.<br />
• Endowment Funds<br />
Endowment funds designated for the purposes of tuition assistance and faculty enhancement have been established through the<br />
Lafayette Area Catholic Schools Foundation, Inc. and Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc. Funds designated for these purposes<br />
are professionally invested under the direction of the Investment Board, and the corpus is not touched. Named and/or memorial<br />
scholarships and grants have been established in coordination with the LCSS Advancement Office.<br />
• Deferred or Planned Gifts<br />
Deferred or planned gifts provide an important reinforcement for creating a sustainable Catholic school system financial model.<br />
The LCSS Advancement Office educates families regarding Planned Giving Opportunities:<br />

– Securities<br />

It is with the deepest sense of appreciation and gratitude that we acknowledge the generosity of our many alumni, parents and<br />
friends who have invested in the Lafayette Catholic School System during the <strong>2016</strong>–<strong>2017</strong> school year. The following lists include<br />
