A total waste. A stressful period. One to forget. The aforementioned statements are some of the sentiments

R.

One

power

woman

By Uratile Nare

Have you ever interviewed someone and

in the end you are like ‘WOW!”. I did.

Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, a template of

feminine excellence. Maybe my

inclination to the media industry made

it easy for me to heap praise on her. She

has various accolades to her name and

she is a celebrated name in Zimbabwean

media. She is not the sort of person you

define, lest you confine her to your

limited views. Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa

is a one power woman who holds many

titles to her name. She is a Zimbabwean

radio and television talk show host, a

master of ceremonies, a voice over

artist, a brand ambassador and

philanthropist. The Wheel magazine

sought her for an inspirational journey.

The Wheel 6

“ Forgive them

Father for they

Cover story

not know what

they do.”

TThere is no better way to start an interview with

someone than asking them why they do what they do.

Quizzed on what made her pursue a career in

journalism Ruvheneko says, “I was in High School

when my English Teacher, Mrs Fischer and my

History Teacher, Mrs Salmon told my parents and I at

consultation that they see me on TV one day. My mom

and I had always fantasised about me becoming like

Oprah Winfrey a show we watched diligently (okay,

obsessively is more accurate) but I guess at that time

we didn’t understand the steps it took to get there.

Fast forward to the University of Cape Town when

I joined UCT Radio hosting a talk show, from then

on I have never looked back.” Since she started her

career Ruvheneko is indeed a woman on the go even

the sky will not limit her she has captured

the attention of many. Her never say die

spirit is probably one of the reasons why

she is also thriving. Amongst the various

accolades in her name she has been

named Women’s Top Business leader

of the year in a special recognition in

Media (2017), she was also part

of the top 20 outstanding women

in business for the year (2015) in

special recognition in good media

relations from the Mega fest

business awards. Her list on

awards is endless, Ruvheneko is

indeed a broadcasting excellence

from women’s leadership awards.

As a lady of many hats she is also a

very an eloquent public speaker. I

couldn’t help but ask how she

developed the ability to speak so

well, Ruvheneko narrates, “I

attribute this to my junior school

and high school; the clubs and

societies I was a part of truly laid

the foundation of how to

communicate........

The Wheel 7

WWe called it, “The Green

Machine” at Chisipite Junior

School .Senior School took me

through Speech and Drama,

Public Speaking, Debate,

Interact, Eistedfodd and Life

Skills. I cannot emphasise

enough how these formative

years were pivotal in my ability

to stand in front of an audience

and send a message. The rest was

my inquisitive mind; watching

videos and listening to orators,

politicians and ‘the greats’ for

inspiration.”Ruvheneko’s journey

started off at a relatively very

young age and the ultimate price

of success for this was learning

tough life lessons on the job and

having to conceal them and keep

going. The more she went the

more she achieved. Just like in

our current generation so many

youths have started off their

careers, and as you keep going

rise, fall, and rise again. Quizzed

on what habits we as the younger

generation can adopt to be as

successful as she is, Ruvheneko

was more than chuffed and

humbled however she gave the

advice that one thing for sure

is that passion and consistency

should be your best friend.

RRuvheneko affirms that there are

many opportunities for youth in

Zimbabwe in the media, radio

and TV industry. She for one

has The Ruvheneko Mentorship

Programme aimed at young

ambitious Zimbabweans. They

work with the youth on their

journey to success by finding

where their purpose and

passion meets. One who is a part

of it gets to learns skills,

strategies that bring out their

inner greatness moulding one’s

character to help them pursue

their endeavours. Ruvheneko

believes that all youths are

destined for greatness regardless

of their circumstances, she

further elaborates that, “If

university is not an option, do

Cover story

not feel limited, take an online

course and plug yourself in

somewhere. There is so much

space! Most importantly follow

your passion, and do what you

love.”

“ To all the youths with a

dream remember passion

and consistency should be

your best friend.”

~Ruvheneko~

The Wheel 8

It’s not always so rosy being a

public figure and media

personality with the negativity

that comes up often a time on

social media platforms.

Ruvheneko affirms she has dealt

with some of it however she

motivates herself by keeping it

moving. “Forgive them Father,

for they know not what they

do,” is how she deals with it.

Pride and Prejudice got no man

anywhere, ever. She knows that

the attacks are often misdirected

anger and misinformed judgement;

so how could she spend

too long being affected by that?

Ruvheneko is passionate about

the media space and she would

like to see more of everything!

More radio stations, more TV

channels, more content

creators, more advertising

budgets, more protection of our

rights, more understanding of

proper pricing for media

practitioners for their skills and

more policies for a conducive

environment for media

practitioners to flourish in their

career. Ruvheneko puts God

first in everything she does as

she continues on her journey.

She wants to be remembered for

being an example of living out

God’s plan for one’s life; a

purpose driven life. The work

and what she has done and

achieved is indeed inspiring.

Everyone has a mission statement

that propels them to face

the day, with its ups and downs.

Questioned on the mantra that

keeps her going in doing what

she does she says, “The fact that

God knew me before I was in my

mother’s womb. Do you know

how powerful that is? That he

orders my steps and knows the

plans he has for me. Nothing

keeps me more going than this

truth. My God, how great Thou

Art! There is so much

assurance in that; so much

confidence and so much Grace.”

If you ever thought that greatness

is for the chosen ones, then

think again. It is for everybody

who is willing to put in the work

and use opportunities wisely.

Ruvheneko continues to soar to

greater heights in the Zimbabwe

media industry and lives up to

that billing. Grab your

opportunities and keep moving.

Let’s ‘Dine

with

Beverly’

Story by Mbulelo eMKlass Mpofu

You can resist anything in this world but food. It is

tempting and at the altar of indulgence most of us

pay our dues. As in the catchphrase of the famous

actor and wrestler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, “If

you smell what The Rock is cooking,” well I do smell

what a certain, “young, ambitious, goal-oriented and

self-made” woman is cooking. You might want to sit

down for this one because the owner of “Dine with

Beverly” catering company is about to satiate your

cravings! Buckle up folks, it’s about to get heated up in

here!

Who? Beverly Nanda Bobobo. What? Dine with

Beverly. This woman inherited, from her father,

adoration of food since he was a qualified chef and

such a gastronomical desire sired the establishment

of Dine with Beverly and made it the brand that

it is today. The 24 year old was born and raised in

Harare and is currently studying towards attaining a

diploma in Business Administration with Midlands

State University (MSU). As part of her extra-curricular

activities, Bev is currently employed as a phlebotomist

(one withdrawing blood through veins) with Genau

laboratories. Now that’s being an epitome of an allrounder.Bev

had this to say when asked about the

origins of Dine with Beverly, “I started my own catering

company as an extension of my deepest passion; food,

as well as hunger for self-achievement and success. My

love for food started at a very tender age and I was

inspired by my father who was a qualified chef and

always used to prepare the most amazing meals with

and for the family. The special bond we shared as

father and daughter allowed for his passion for food to

spill over into me as he always used to spend most of

his time in the kitchen.

The Wheel 11

“I started my own catering

company as an extension of my

deepest passion; food, as well as

hunger for self-achievement and

success.”~Beverly

That’s how my love for food came

to be.” Bev’s company caters for a

variety of cuisines but specialising

in the British cuisine

because of their rich flavours,

high nutrient content as well as

food textures incorporated into

the cuisine’s dishes. Start-ups will

confirm that most of the times,

especially during one’s market

penetration stage, it’s not usually

smooth sailing from the get-go.

Challenges are part of the process

and one has to take them on the

chin. Dine with Beverly was not

immune to what I’ve just alluded

to. The following is a list of the

hurdles that Bev faced and had to

conquer in her business

endeavours:

~establishing a firm presence in

the already flooded market

~ securing funding to further

capacitate the business

~Costly ingredients

It’s no rocket science that every

cook has their special

ingredient and Bev is no

exemption. She would kill for

her, “medium curry” since it has,

“this unique flavour that makes

my food unique and different

from others.” It’s her can’t do

without ingredient and she uses

it for most dishes and this line of

thought brought us an

interesting excursion where the

mission statement was:

The secret to cooking a perfect

steak and this is how you do it

Bev style;

a)Take the protein out of the fridge

and let it rest for 5 minutes before

cooking.it.

b)Season it heavily with salt and

pepper.

c)Lay it away from you when

dropping it in the pan.

d)Make sure you have an amazing

sear on the flesh.

e)Tiny knob of butter - Let the butter

caramelise and this gives out a

really nice brown flavour on top of

the steak.

f)Let it rest so that it will be so

much juicer.

g)Never slice it too thin. To

maximise on the flavour and keep

the moisture intact, make sure

that it is at least 1/2cm.thick.

h)The temperature of the steak

is.the most important.

i)The final tip behind any great

steak is making sure you have

someone to share it with (smiles).

Dine with Bev

The Wheel 12

Customer service is at the heart of every

business venture and Bev concurs with

the need to keep her clientele happy, “I

believe that every client is royalty and

should thus be treated as such. Them being

right or wrong is subjective to the matter in

hand though their opinions and views take

precedence in us reaching common

ground. I believe so because people’s

preferences and tastes as well as knowledge

vary.” In all of this, one thing was certain,

effective customer service is one best way

of marketing your business. Dine with

Bev is not your fly by night entity but is a

testament of blood, sweat and tears put in

to build that empire and the founder and

owner of the company had words of

wisdom to share with upcoming business

personnel. Bev attests that she would

“Get up and follow your passion, chase your dreams

and never give up. Success is never achieved overnight.

It takes consistency, patience and putting in the work.

Over and above everything, pray.”~ Beverly

advise people to, “get up and follow their

passion, chase their dreams and never

give up. Success is never achieved overnight.

It takes consistency, patience and

putting in the work. Over and above

everything, I would tell them to pray.”

Seldom do cooks have time for themselves

in a demanding industry and the

last meal Bev would it if it was her last

day would be prawns served with rice.

Hunger is inevitable and the next you want

to grab a bite of good food, Dine with

Beverly has all the tools to satiate your

appetite. This is because the company

has tapped into recent food trends which

include preparing organically grown

foods and ensuring that it is prepared

without oil. Why don’t you contact and

follow them on their social media handles

and explore further? Catch us on our next

edition as we keep it classed up a notch.

Check, check, check and check

Singapore. He has been there

flying our flag high. Step in

that surely football changes

lives. We are a little bit

obsessed with delivering news

and profiles that thrill and

that is exactly why we tracked

down the 25-year old

footballer who happens to

emerge as one of the vital cogs

in the Thulani Sibanda’s

machine.

The Wheel 15

Q

How was your

experience playing

for Zimbabwe U-17s

abroad?

The experience was indescribably

out of this world. Just the mere

feeling of meeting new people

and doing what I love the most in

a foreign land was so surreal.

Q

How does football

impact lives?

Growing up in the

ghetto where there

can be no role models to speak of

was quite an ordeal, you see peers

even people younger than you

being swallowed by bottles,

parties an all sorts of immoral

pleasures but because I had to

go for training, football kept me

away from all those bad habits as

my availability was scarce to be

caught up in those activities. So

I guess that’s how it impacts on

every ghetto child and if lucky

enough, some make a fortune in

football having them to be the

ones that change their families for

the better because of soccer.

Q

Growing up, who was

your soccer idol both

locally & abroad?

Desmond Maringwa

who played for Dynamos FC and

Andres Iniesta who played for FC

Barcelona in Spain and currently

plays for Vissel Kobe in Japan.

Q

During this Covid-19

how have you been

keeping fit?

I engage myself in early morning

runs, circuit training and a little bit

of ball work.

Q

CR7

or LM10 & why?

This one is a bit tricky

and controversial. I

like Cristiano

Ronaldo because of the hard work

and always pitching up when he

is needed the most but I have to

admit, Lionel Messi is the greatest

in the world. He is a team player

and he does whatever he does

effortlessly.

I’m strongly inclined to believe that his first

time was not when he was 8 (kicking football

that is). He must have had countless

encounters before that. The Sports Science

and Coaching student at the National

University of Science and Technology

(NUST)’s journey to being one of the

finest midfielders in the country’s Castle

Lager Premier Soccer League is one heck of

an inspirational story of grit, patience and

graft. Below is the rendition the footballer’s

career and how football changed his life:

Q

Talk us through your journey

from the junior league up to the

Premiership?

I started at Rays of Hope, a recreational

centre when I was 10 years old then went to

Njube Sundowns when I was 12. I played 1

season then I went to Highlanders from 2008

up to 2011 then left to join Bantu Rovers to

play for their Division 1 and PSL squad. I

then joined Bulawayo Chiefs Football Club

in 2018 to date.

Q

17s,

Apart from your

Singapore trip with

the national Underwhat

else have

you achieved as a player and

which nations have you been to?

I have quite a few accolades to

myself and these include the:

•Club player of the year in 2019

•Most outstanding midfielder in

2019

Apart from my trip to Singapore

with the Under 17 national team

in 2010, I have been to South

Africa and most recently Nigeria

for a school project and that was

in 2019.

Q

What’s

the best

advice you have

been given from

your coach?

“Where ever you are, always do/

give your best because that’s

where God wants you to be at

that particular moment.”

The Wheel 16

Q

Give

us your best XI team of

all space and time.

Q

Any

last words to upcoming

footballers & sportsmen?

Football and sport in general is a short time

career and sadly, not everyone is going to

make to the big time. My message would be

don’t abandon/shun school because of

football. Always marry the two since they

work out for the best if they go hand in

hand.

Q & A

Brendon the Artist

1

By Uratile Nare

2

Uratile: Hello Brendon,

you are such a talented

young man, can you

briefly share some light

on who you are?

Brendon: My name is

Brendon Nyamashuka,

a 14 year old pencil

and pastel artist who is

working tirelessly almost

daily so much that I am

seeing myself improving

with each pencil stroke.

I am based in Ruwa and

I‘m a form 2 student at

Goromonzi. I am also

the last born in my

family.

3

“Raw talent alone is

not enough. One needs

determination...”

Uratile: Amongst all your artwork, which is your

favourite piece of drawing and why?

Brendon: Well, I don’t have a favourite drawing yet

but I think the one I am about to draw will be my

favourite and this is just a gut feeling, no apparent

reason.

Uratile: What kind of

art do you do (theme)?

Brendon: I do pencil

portraits of people,

wildlife and pets also

known as charcoal

drawing but I have also

taken up pencil colour

drawing.

4

Uratile: How have you managed to

perfect your sketching skills?

Brendon: Perfection is a standard that

I’m still working towards but I have

reached my current level by practicing

a lot and just being consistent throughout.

The Wheel 19

5 6 7

Uratile: How did you discover your

sketching talent and how old were

you?

Brendon: When I was very young at

the age of 5, my elder brother used

to draw cars for fun when he was in

Grade 5. He used to have this book

he drew his stuff on. That’s when

I got a calling to do the same and

that’s when I started my art journey.

8

Uratile: What are some of the

challenges you have faced in your

start-up art business?

Brendon: Limited access to quality

drawing equipment. They do say

that a man is as good as his tools.

Uratile: It must take so much time

to complete a piece of artwork, how

do you balance your artwork with

school?

Brendon: It is pretty hard to

balance the two but I still make a

plan because one of my favourite

quotes entails that raw talent alone

is not enough, one needs

determination, passion and hard

work to achieve their dreams so this

always reminds me to make some

time and put in the work for my

passion.

Uratile: Among the world leaders

and celebrities, who do you wish to

draw and why?

Brendon: Strive Masiyiwa because

he is one great example of a hard

working man who persistently

pursued his dream until he made it

and also because he mentioned that

one should follow their

passion to better people’s lives and

that if you make some money along

the way, that’s still great but not to

do it for the money, instead to do

it to change and improve people’s

lives.

“My overall dream as an

artist is to make the brand, ART_BY_

BRENDON synonymously linked

with greatness on a global level.”

Matima

‘It ain’t

clean until

it sparkles’

By Charity Nyoni

WWhilst some of us were busy

brooding over the impacts and

effects of Covid 19, the Matima

Cleaning Services team was

busy preparing a legacy in their

oven. Matima Cleaning Services

has taken the streets of Harare

by a great storm with their

motto: It ain’t clean until it

sparkles! So why should you

sit in a dusty office when the

youthful Matima crew is at your

service?

As you all know that our Wheel

moves by the stories of our

entrepreneurs, like every time

they all have an experience to

share. Let’s all put on our seat

belts as we listen to Tinashe

Sinamai, the Operations

Director of Matima Cleaning

Services: “My name is Tinashe

Sinamai and I’m 26 years old. I’m

a co-owner of Matima Cleaning

Services. My partners are

Marlvern Masimbaashe

Tsekwende and Margaret

Kambondoma. Margaret is the

Managing Director, Marlvern

is the Marketing Director and

I am the Operations Director.

We started Matima Cleaning

Services as an idea last year in

November and we registered as a

company this year in July.

Basically, Matima Cleaning

Services is a cleaning services

company that specialises in

cleaning for both commercial

and residential locations. We

also provide Waste Management

services like Refuse Collection

and Sanitary Collection.

We also do Fumigation and

Disinfecting as well as Maid

Placement Services. Our

services come as per once-off

cleaning or contract based

cleaning. Refuse Collection is

simply the collection of dust bins

from residential or commercial

sectors, there are some places

where the City Council takes

time to collect waste so we offer

our services to the people by

collecting once a week. Sanitary

Collection is mainly for sectors

with female toilets where we

collect sanitary waste and we

dispose it through incineration

according to Environmental

Management Agency (EMA)

standards. As for Maid

Placement Services, we find a

suitable maid as per the request

of our clients and we get paid for

this. Like every other

business, we have been walking

on a bumpy road, not every day

is all smooth. The critical

challenge we faced at our

conception stage was capital but

we looked for jobs so that we

raise capital for the big

equipment which we were able

to do. We now have the

equipment which helps us in

all jobs and at the same time

increasing our footing in the

Joey’s Herb Hub

Story by Charity Nyoni

As the world is tremendously sinking deep into

unimaginable health issues & diseases, what

better way is there to save us than to improve

our eating habits by adding a little bit of

natural herbs and spices? The Wheel

Magazine interviewed Joana Mukucha, the founder and

CEO of Joey’s Herb Hub and this is how things went down.

The Wheel 26

Q: Firstly, thank you for joining

us today, people are now

wondering, who is Joana

Mukucha and what is Joey’s

Herb Hub?

A: (smiles) I’m a young lady from

Bulawayo, aged 23,

studying a Bachelor of Honours

degree in Business Management

at the National University of

Science and Technology

(NUST). I’m an aspiring business

manager by profession and an

entrepreneur by passion. I’m the

founder and CEO of Joey’s Herb

Hub which is a business that

started off by selling fresh herbs,

then widened the product

portfolio range by venturing into

spices and healthy snacks that

are made of herbs and spices.

The tagline of Joey’s Herb Hub is,

“Health at Heart!”

It all started as a collection of

different types of home-grown

herbs such as peppermint,

rosemary, parsley and lemon

balm. The flourishing of herbal

garden then motivated me to

start a Herb Hub.

Q: That’s awesome. When and

how did you start this business?

What motivated you to do so?

A: During the Covid 19

lockdown, l had ample time to

utilise the entrepreneurial skills

I’d gained through platforms

such as Enactus and Hult Prize.

In 2019, as the Secretary General

of the NUST Hult Prize, I had

the opportunity to go to Ghana,

Accra and represent Zimbabwe

in the regional competitions. It

was a great platform for young

entrepreneurs from other African

countries to showcase their ideas

and innovations, demonstrating

amazing entrepreneurial

skills. The

experience was an eye

opener that

challenged me to

come up with a

startup idea of

my own.

Q: What are the

challenges you

have faced so far

and how did you

overcome them?

A: Using a multi currency

system, at times it’s difficult to

get smaller denominations such

as the $US1, at times you end up

losing sales as change becomes an

issue. Change issues

emanating from the different

currencies being used is a

common problem in Zimbabwe,

sometimes results in lost sales.

Hence, it became of paramount

importance to ensure that small

denominations of petty cash were

always available to avoid losing

out on potential sales.

Q: What advice would you give

to young entrepreneurs to curb

or overcome similar challenges?

A: By educating people on the

benefits of using whichever

product one is marketing at

times, as people might not be

aware of the vast benefits

associated with the product. As

Zimbabwe is currently operating

in a multi-currency economy, I’d

encourage young entrepreneurs

to accept all forms of payment

methods that are equivalent to a

stable currency as a way of sales

maximisation.

Q: How is the community

benefiting from your business?

A: In the interim, door to door

delivery is only available in

Northend, where the business

is located, thereby eliminating

transport costs in accessing herbs

and spices. As I do deliveries, I

get an opportunity to share

information on the healing

properties of herbs, and suggest

meals in which various spices can

be incorporated in.

@joeys_herb_hub

Email: Joeysherbhubinfo@gmail.com

The Wheel 27

Our distribution is in the Bulawayo

CBD for convenience sake.

Q;What’s your span of control?

A: As the founder and CEO, I

handle the management functions

of planning, organizing, leading,

and controlling of all business

activities. I have the help and

support of family in the

distribution process.

Q: What are the health benefits of

Joey’s Herb Hub?

A: Herbs are plants with savoury

or aromatic properties that are

used for flavouring and garnishing

food, for medicinal purposes or for

fragrances. Each herb comes with

varieties according to their

botanical .....nature, with unique

properties such improving

cognitive functions, supporting

heart health, boosting metabolism

systems and strengthening the

immune system. For example, as

we live in an era where masks are

ought to be worn at all times, as a

way of ensuring oral hygiene,

peppermint would be ideal in

keeping the breath fresh. Herbs

have no side effects unlike

pharmaceutical drugs. As the

saying goes, “Eat your food as

medicine so that you will not eat

medicine as food.”

Q: Why should people choose your

spices from the basket of many

suppliers?

The herbs and spices are 100%

organic with no additives in the

packaging process that may cause

side effects.

Q: How many flavours do you

have?

A: I have 13 different types of herbs

such as lemon grass, basil, oregano,

sage and 15 different types of spices

such as Portuguese spice, mother in

law, cayenne pepper just to

mention a few.

Springle a great

taste with

Dolce

Esperenza

With a trifecta of interests, one

qualifies to be called a jack of

all but three trades. This month,

we interview someone with an

insane passion for food, law

and business in general. Why

don’t you join the bandwagon as we get an earful of

Dolce Esperienza’s very own, Takunda Mandevhani?

No one can say it better than the lad in question.

Enjoy but most of all, be inspired!

My name is Takunda Mandevhani, I’m a 25 year old

male who has interests in the legal, business and

cooking fields. I have a law degree and

have worked in the legal department of a

corporate. So cooking has always been a

hobby for me, I went through a difficult

period in 2018 and one of the only things

that seemed to cheer me up was producing

a fine meal for myself. Through repetition,

I got better at it and it was my own way

to express whatever negative feelings I had

inside. Usually, I would cook once a week

as I was employed and that would be on a

Sunday. However, following the first lockdown,

I had more time at home and this

made me learn more about my craft.

All this while I had a lot of social media

interest in my abilities with some even

wondering where I had learnt the

techniques. I was on an employment

contract which was extended for a brief

period to allow me to search for

alternatives. My forecast read a shutdown

in income and it was during this period

that I thought deep to myself and asked if

I had any skills that I could convert into a

form of income especially since my

contract had been renewed briefly.

Takunda Mandevhani

The Wheel 30

I knew I had the cooking ability. However, I was not

sure if I could convert the ability and interest into

money. I simply was confident of my abilities that my

food would be of a standard that people would buy.

Nevertheless, I had lots of homework to do which

included costing and a lot more.I then fflighted a

survey on Instagram to find out how many people

would order from me if I made a business out of

my abilities. The responses were alarmingly high. It

was at this point that I decided to trust my instincts

and follow through. However, these were unfamiliar

waters that I was treading through. So far, I’ve

almost reached 60 orders and the journey has been

remarkable. Dolce Esperienza translates to, “sweet

experience” in Italian and that’s the adage I

follow and apply. My aim is to give my customers an

experience as opposed to the mundane task of

consuming food for simple nourishment. It is

against this backdrop that I need to work hard and

have an insatiable appetite to learn and improve.

These are only the introductory steps that will lead

to my eventual goal of having my own restaurantIt

takes a lot of planning and organising. Usually, if I

receive an order the night before, that’s when I do

all of my preparations even when I’m tired because

that thirty minutes of cutting and peeling I may not

have the next day with my work. It’s also defrosting

meats the night before then waking up early to start

the seasoning process while I attend to my work.

With my menu,

I started off with easy

food that I just learnt to

do extremely well. That’s

the idea for any cook

starting out. Currently, on

my menu is the all-time

favourite which are my

ribs, there’s

chicken, pork, salads,

kebabs to name a few.

I feel like law and cooking can

easily run concurrently. If my

of getting extra hands that can apply

the same touch that I do. My

customers should never feel

differences in the quality and taste

of my food.I watch a whole variety

of chefs on YouTube from Natasha’s

Kitchen to George Kavkaz. Natasha’s

kitchen brings the fun into a dish and

her passion for food mirrors with the

final result. George is a Russian who is

quite unconventional with his

approach to cooking. I may not be

inspired by his dishes but he provides

different techniques that are

valuable. All in all, Gordon Ramsay

ticks my box. I like his fiery temper

Beauty Ladan

The Female Ghuru

By Mbulelo eMKlass Mpofu

Hats off to whoever coined the phrase, ‘Dynamites come in small packages’ This is because

he/she possessed mental ingenuity and most of all, he/she was spot on. When success matters

are thrown into the fray, size is thrown out of the window and efficiency is embraced. Why

don’t you embark on an insightful journey with us into paths that have carved musical

T

juggernauts?

The entertainment industry is

one sector that cuts across tribes,

ages and social status and brings

everyone together for quite an

experience. Seventeen years ago,

one songstress announced herself

to the world and today, she

is mesmerising crowds with her

blend of lyrical maturity and

flair with vocal prowess. Beauty

Ladan Chikati is not your normal

teenager but an intellectual with a

musical mind. The “sophisticated

and ambitious woman who fuses

an assortment of genres namely,

Afro pop, RnB, hip hop and jazz

recently released a 4 track EP

entitled, ‘Love Letter’. Everyone

is a fan of love trust me and this

offering showcases her talent.

The EP has tracks that include;

Sad love, Shingirira, Know you

(Cover) featuring k3emotion and

lastly, Terera. All the songs are

accessible on YouTube for your

enjoyment and lovers of good

music are in for a treat. With both

of us knowing that no one is born

a singer, Beauty Ladan has origins

too. “What made me decide to

pursue a career in entertainment

is that, I felt like doing what I love

the most could always make me

happy and since I love music, I

had to be an artist,” is her

assessment of how she would

eventually belong to the stage.

Not only is she vocally talented,

the following statement shows

her verbiage too, “I have learnt I

shouldn’t stop when I’m tired. I

should stop when I’m done and

I didn’t know being an artist is

all about being a creative soul

bringing out a different feel that’s

artistic and all artists are different

and unique.

The Wheel 34

“ To all my fans, I love you all and I’m

grateful for your screams. It’s pretty clear I’m

not an artist without you all so, I’m grateful

for you making me.” ~ Beauty Ladan

The Wheel 35

Quizzed on who she would dream

of being a curtain-raiser for, the

teenage sensation was not

hesitant to name the rapper,

Takura but her dream ‘

collaboration is with South

Africa’s nasty rapper, Nasty C. I

have been caught up in this too

a couple of times. Singing in the

bathroom whilst taking a bath is

one of the familiar traits that

musicians deal with and Beauty is

not immune. She usually

freestyles her way out of the

bathroom. The Chris Brown and

Nicky Minaj admirer did not see

herself as nothing but an artist

and that is what passion does to

you. She would not trade it for

anything in the world. Every

industry has a loop hole and

something that needs tweaking

and according to Beauty, there is

need for a mental paradigm shift

whereby music fans don’t just

watch performances but

appreciate and show some love.

“I mean even when there is talent

here, they barely support. For

instance in America, if a talent

is shown in public, they clap and

award. Here they clap and go.

I wish I could change that,” is

how she puts it. Our local artists

need help so as to produce

quality humdingers for your

listening experience.So, at just

seventeen and having a budding

career, one would be worried how

Ladan balances the many balls

she is carrying without dropping

any. That would be a very good

question. So how does she do it?

Simple! “There is always planning.

I plan both sides and I need

better results both sides. I have

time for school I use it wisely. I

have time for studio too and I use

it wisely.”With a good support

mechanism, Beauty smiled when

quizzed on the best advice she has

ever been given. Her mother told

her that, “Life is what you make

it” That’s sweet and concise if you

ask me. In compliance to maternal

wisdom passed to her, she made

music her life. She has evaded the

notoriety associated with artists,

especially teenagers. A smile is

plastered on her face when addressing

her growing legions of

fans, “Firstly, I love you all and

I’m grateful for your screams.

It’s pretty clear I’m not an artist

without you all so I’m grateful

for you making me.” Thankful

she is because her greatest fear

happens to be booed off stage or

getting a sea of non-responders.

The moral of Beauty’s story is that

age is just but a number and what

carries substance is the heart and

make that a capital, ‘h.’ Tenacity,

proper planning and perseverance

come in handy if one is to write

their story in the archives of this

world’s history. Only you can do

that.

Multi Young Businessman

You’ve got to know him!

WWho said all you need is one? Ronald Mazhindu

is a multi-business man in Zimbabwe. The best

things do not come only in ones and twos, Ronald

makes it 4! Yes I said 4. He is the founder of

a delivery company, ‘Drop It’, a media company

‘Fade2Black Media’, he owns a mobile utility van

company called ‘AcumeusZW’ and is also part of

a newly formed branding and design company

called ‘Brand Experts Creativity’. In one word,

Ronald describes himself as enthusiaste.

He takes it to the next level with his start-ups.

Motivated by seeing himself grow forced him to

level up and he is proud of his journey so far.

“Yes! Life has not stopped but first things first,

gratitude is the stepping stone” is how Ronald

describes his journey. He believes his

creativity has also played a role in making him

reach where he is and is also happy because

people too, have kept him motivated. Ronald

stands by the belief that we are born to excel, to

use our minds wisely and be different.

There are so many ideas we have and we

procrastinate on them and then the next person

does it and you are heart broken. Being a doer is

a motivation. Like Nike, “just do it” and they say

‘fortune favours the brave.’ It’s impressive to note

that he works with 4 businesses however what

would be more interesting is to find out how he

manages to pull this off!

“Yes! Life has not

stopped but first

things first

gratitude is

the stepping

stone”~Ronald M

By Uratile Nare

The Wheel 37

QQuizzed on this (managing 4

businesses) he (Mazhindu) plainly

stated that he does ask himself

the same question often however,

he elaborated saying, “I would say

these companies are so different

and they all add to all the aspects

of my life so that it’s not boring.

The one thing that keeps me going

when it comes to managing them

is my note pad and pen. Everyday

each company has something on

the list to be achieved. Though

they vary in

demand depending on the days.

One of the companies, Brand

Experts is a partnership with

friends so that’s fun because each

member has their strengths and

team work is what makes ideas to

be realistic and become goals to be

achieved.” The saying goes, ‘teamwork

makes the dream work,’

Ronald and his team are clearly

making it happen. Do you believe

in the saying, “anything is possible?”

Well if you don’t, now you

will. Ronald went from being an

Accountant by profession to

starting up Media companies.

Now how is that possible? Ronald

affirms that throughout his

College life he associated a lot

with the Arts students. Fresh out

of high school he used to help

some of his elder brothers shoot

weddings and other events. He

was the hands on guy willing to

learn holding props and mics and

help with wherever he could in an

event. He discovered it was more

fun than drawing balance sheets

and income statements. He found

himself in a happy place and

creative zone. He finished his

studies, did some work in the

Accounting field until one day,

he woke up and decided to follow

his passion. It has become

apparent that a majority of

successful people have followed

their passion. Ronald quit his

Accounting job and pursued

being a freelance photographer.

He describes these as probably

the best days of his life because

he loves connecting with people

and with photography and he

was able to do that. With a storng

support system from his family

and friends, he was able to make

it. Indeed we rise by lifting each

other up. Ronald pushes his

media businesses with

creativity at heart. Quizzed on his

Acumeuszw Company a mobile

utility van company which is such

a creative innovation, I was eager

to ask what brought about the

idea. For a while Ronald has been

striving for convenience after

having been globetrotting. The

exposure made him come across

a van that could literally be anything

one would want it to be.

Having come across it, he narrates

that he quickly jumped onto the

idea, made a few savings with the

help of his family and was good to

go. Every business does face some

challenges on its way up and

Ronald admits that developing

the business idea and penetrating

the market was not a walk in the

park and had to do a lot of

convincing to sell his idea. However,

at the end it worked. Being

a busy man comes with a lot

of discipline. Ronald describes

his typical day at work as writing

down his to-do list the night

before or when he wakes up. His

to-do list guides him on what he

is supposed to achieve as well as

prioritise. The organised Ronald

says; “I like to do all my things before

lunch since it is the most productive

time of my day. Checking

emails regularly and I also do take

time to help friends and family in

their businesses or just being there

for them as a way to serve. There

is no blessing that comes without

giving.”

Ronald has been able to diversify.

From Accounting to Media and

from Media growing into

having a multipurpose or

utility van growth. Much more

bigger and better plans ahead for

the businessman. Ronald says he

will push his dream with hard

work, consistency, and listening

to others and learning.

Continuing his journey, Ronald

says, to do things outside the box

is key and selling an experience is

always his goal.

Giving people what they need and

wowing them. Being honest, communicating

well, and being able

to change people’s lives. Being a

Save

The Bee

Save

The

WORLD

By Mbulelo eMKlass Mpofu

The Wheel 42

From left Rugare Marufu founder Hive treasures, & Kholisana Ndlovu

Avid Bible scholars will confirm

to the promise given to the

Israelites, “a land flowing with

milk and honey.” Inheriting such

a land was their all and all of

their fears vanished when they

thought about the place. What’s

your worst nightmare? Heights?

Snakes? I fear small insects which

have a potent sting. They are

black and yellow and I know by

now you know which insects I’m

alluding too. Yes, they are bees. In

as much as I fear these creatures,

I so love the fruits of their labour,

honey. Honey is royalty if you ask

me. I know someone who does

not fear bees. You want to know

her? Keep reading!

A careful study into the keeping

of bees resulted in me learning

about the technical name for such

an endeavour. It’s called

apiculture. Api what? Yes,

apiculture and who else to

educate us on these delicate

insects than Rugare Marufu?

She is as experienced as they

come. Rugare is a, “Beeprenuer

and a farmer” who studied

somatology and Retail and

Logistics Management at the

Midlands State University

(MSU). So much for studying the

physical nature of human beings

but her true love happened to be

apiculture and this necessitated

he establishment of a company

called Organic Honey, a product

of a family trust. Organic Honey,

now defunct has now assumed a

new name: Hive Treasures.

Being built on the foundations of

consistency, teamwork,

honesty, customer service and

learning from past mistakes has

seen Hive Treasures grow in

leaps and bounds. Rugare is of

the mind that in business, capital

doesn’t establish an enterprise but

an idea does. The company

comprises of 5 dedicated team

members and the company is

open for partnerships to spread

its wings and reach the remotest

of areas in the country.

According to Rugare, bees love

operating on their own space but

due to deforestation, we discover

them finding solace in the

comfort of our living spaces.

“Hive Treasures is all

about the protection of

these insects hence their

drive against the killing of

bees termed #SaveTheBee

#SaveTheWorld.”

The Wheel 43

This is why she wishes that a bill

be passed to protect the bees from

human harm and a curriculum that

incorporates apiculture be

developed so that children learn

more about bees. People kill and

fear bees not only because they are

dangerous but because they don’t

understand them. People fear what

they don’t understand. Now let’s get

something straight with bees here,

they sting and we seldom spare their

lives when we see them but getting

to the point of keeping them takes

passion and understanding of how

these species live. So Rugare

understands that bees are, “the

biggest pollinators in the whole

world” and hence leaving in

harmony with them makes perfect

sense to balance our ecosystem.

We need bees in our midst. Rugare

wishes to complement and

implement Sustainable

Development Goal (SDG) number 2

which is concerned with eradicating

hunger and bees are a good source

of livelihood.Hive Treasures is home

to seven (7) product lines namely,

the honey itself, culinary, cosmetics,

infusions, beverages, candles and the

bees wax wraps. All of the aforesaid

show the profits of honey and the

by-products have been an expansion

drive by the company. Also, honey is

rich in antimicrobial and

antibacterial properties which are

effective in the treatment of eye

diseases, bronchial asthma, throat

infections, tuberculosis, hiccups,

fatigues, dizziness, hepatitis,

constipation, worm infestation,

piles, allergies, sinuses, eczema,

wounds and it is a strong nutritional

supplement. So next time you have

any of the aforementioned problems,

just use a little bit of honey magic

and then, voila, you will be up and

running in no time. Mukoko

weHuchi (which translates to the

bee hive) is not only confined to

honey products but also offer

services ranging from training,

As an apiarist par excellence and

quizzed on what happens in the

bee hive, Rugare (hyped) just

cruised through sentences like

clockwork, “I was so amazed

when I heard that bees

communicate! They do it

systematically in the sense that

the queen bee is the one that gives

instructions. Bees are organised

and are never out of their hive

at night and this makes it easier

for harvesting since they have a

followable pattern.” The different

types of honey that bees produce

include blueberry honey,

eucalyptus honey, and avocado

honey just to name a few.

The population of a hive is made

up of three (3) different types of

bees which have distinct roles to

play. There is only one queen in

the hive which moderates

operations within the hive, the

worker bee (female) holds the

majority of the hive and the drone

(male) mates with the new virgin

queens. Bees are such an exciting

community worth

understanding and who knows,

one might reap the rewards that

the likes of Rugare are enjoying.

“Bees are actually synonymous to

the pets we keep at home. They

adjust to environments and

eventually know who their

owners are. It’s possible to live in

harmony with the bees. I’ve got

bees that surround the whole house and

they are good guards as we haven’t

experienced break-ins in years,” is how

Rugare would justify the idea of having

bees around us. It’s commonplace for

animals who are facing extinction headon

to be given special treatment and

protected as endangered species. I’ve

heard of the plight of the rhinos and

pangolins but it’s not every day that you

hear bees thrown into that kind of

conversation. Hive Treasures is all about

the protection of these insects hence their

drive against the killing of bees termed

#SaveTheBee #SaveTheWorld. This is

because, the first thing that comes to a

person’s mind when they see a bee is

killing it and this has resulted in the

decline of the world’s biggest pollinators’

population and this has an adverse impact

on the balance of the ecosystem. Bees do

sting but did you know that they don’t

attack unless provoked or when they feel

threatened? When you have a bee

problem at home, call apiarists to help

you remove them safely instead of killing

them. Are you interested in establishing a

start-up? If your answer is yes, then here

is a tip from those who have been there,

done that, “Whether it’s beekeeping or

any other business, just start somewhere.

We don’t hear about planes that land

successfully on the news.

Coverage is only on those that

crash. Don’t let news of failed

start-ups deter you from

venturing into your own

business.” Short and powerful,

right!I hope and trust that this

piece has been an eye-opener

to you as it has been for me

and many misconceptions on

bees have been set straight. I’m

sure most, if not all of us love

honey, so why not protect its

producers for continued

supply? Contact Rugare and

proportions without mentioning the name, ‘Linkpin Limited’ because that would

be injustice. This company thrives on providing, ‘innovative and sustainable

transportation solutions’ and trust me, that is what customers yearn for, a s

eamless transactional experience. Sired from Linkpin Ltd is PinLink Ltd which

serves exclusively local. To give us an insight into the company’s operations,

Mbulelo eMKlass Mpofu (MeM) conversed with Kudakwashe Pikirai (PK), the

company’s executive assistant and this is what went down:

MeM: Hello Kuda. Please define Kudakwashe Pikirai in 3

adjectives.

KP: Hie Mbulelo. I’m enthusiastic, versatile and patient.

MeM: Why did you choose to pursue a career as a

courier?

KP: I believe the career path chose me (laughs

hysterically). I must say a career in the courier services is

one that allows for versatility in terms of communique,

knowledge on diverse customs regulations and it

broadens the mind-set on just how we are globally

interconnected.

MeM: As an Executive Assistant locally, what’s your role in

the company?

KP: My role as an executive is more administrative. I ensure

that paperwork and all requirements are availed for

the smooth flow of information and processes.

MeM: Linkpin Ltd is an international company, how do

you maintain such high standards?

KP: When a vision is clearly spelt out, it is quite

interesting to work and be yourself. Linkpin Limited

C.E.O. Mr L. Dhliwayo, is very thorough and

professional. He has put in place policies and procedures

that are in line with international standards. As a result,

standard maintenance is with ease.

MeM: Since you deliver documentation, how do you make

sure that everything reaches its destination in the required

state? Documents are delicate materials.

KP: Our deliveries are not limited to documentation and

our clientele base is mostly international. As a result, we

Kudakwashe Pikirai

pack and ship goods ranging from clothing

to trucks/cars. The process is handled by one

of our bosses based in the United Kingdom,

Mr Thabang Nare. He ensures that all goods

have been packed properly, labelled and stored

correctly as required. This process helps us in

ensuring that all parcels reach the intended

destination in the required state.

The Wheel 46

MeM: Do you accept bespoke

requests and offer last-minute

services?

KP: Unfortunately with air cargo

and shipping, bespoke requests

are difficult to accept because

everything is timely and

thoroughly executed. We issue

our shipping dates and times

regularly so as to allow for our

clients to properly plan.

MeM: What delivery options and

other services are available at

your company?

KP: Our delivery options start

from the choice a client makes

when we collect and package

their parcels. For example, we

use two main methods; air and

shipping. The two methods are

both efficient though with air,

freight take less time to get to the

intended destination whilst with

shipping, a client will have to be

patient and understanding.

MeM: What factors do you consider

when planning routes for

delivery?

KP: Delivery routes are determined

by package destination.

When we collect our packages,

the United Kingdom team would

have packed in such a way that if

we have regional deliveries, the

team is made aware and they are

delivered before the trucks cross

into Zimbabwe. Our regional

lists usually cater for Malawi,

Zambia and South Africa.

MeM: As part of your expansion

drive, how has your transport

& logistics company thrived in

Zimbabwe?

KP: PinLink Logistics Private

Limited has indeed thrived in

the face of this harsh economic

atmosphere. The PinLink

Logistics Private Limited boasts

of a team of highly competent

personnel that ensures that all

policies and procedures are

adhered to for the success of the

business.

MeM: Interesting! Share an

experience you had in dealing

with a difficult person and how

you handled the situation.

KP: Fortunately in my area of

work, I get to talk mostly to our

clients on equally good terms.

Seldom do I find myself dealing

with difficult individuals

directly. Delivery guys are the

ones who usually encounter

difficult clients.

MeM: What makes Linkpin Ltd

different from other courier

companies in the country?

KP: What makes us different

is that we are experienced. We

build a relationship with our

clients and we deliver timely.

With PinLink Logistics

Private Limited, you can never

go wrong!

MeM: What’s your 5 year plan?

KP: Grow, grow, grow and

dominate regionally in the

transportation and shipping

sector.

MeM: How do you balance your

local & international market’s

interests?

KP: Linkpin Limited is mainly

focused on our international

interests whilst PinLink Logistics

Private Limited services our

local markets.

MeM: What sort of advice would

you give to anyone

contemplating to establish a

courier company?

PK: Learn from the best. Do not

just start, consult with those who

are already in the industry and

get enough knowledge before

you embark on the journey.

“It doesn’t matter what you are

shipping, be it documents, box

parcels, pallets, vehicles, heavy

machinery, containers to name a

few, Linkpin Ltd is the company

you can trust!” were the

sentiments that were echoed by

Kuda. For more information on

the company’s services, please

assortment of exceptional

inspirational content, you know

Ama2K Clothing

By Uratile Nare

Owen Nyoni is a 20 year old,

first year student at the University

of Zimbabwe studying Risk

Reduction and Disaster

Management. He is the founder

of ama2000 private limited

company.

Q: Hello Owen, we are thrilled

to have you moving with The

Wheel Magazine. I know all

fashion designers and brand

owners are inspired into a

certain style of design for their

brand, I would like to know

what inspires you?

A: Hi Uratile, thank you for

having me, that’s quite an

interesting question to start with

(laughs), starting a

clothing brand is all about

creativity. I wanted to offer

something unique to the

industry as well as the

generation and like everyone

else, I had a vision to speak the

language of the new generation

youth and to portray their

outright nature.

Q: Interesting, it now makes so

much sense. Why the name ‘

Ama2 K clothing?’ The brand is

for your generation hence your

target audience right?

A: Yes exactly! My target

audience is quiet simple. Ama2K

is for the born free youths those

born from 2000 - 2020 and the

unborn and those vibing in the

2000s generation.

Q: So tell us, how best would

you describe AMA 2k clothing

style and design?

A: Well currently, for a start, we

have been focused on high

quality t-shirts for both male and

female. The vision I have is to

design more unique and creative

apparel from, dresses, caps, hats,

shorts, jerseys amongst others.

Q: I can see we will have a

variety to choose from. Moving

on which established designers

and clothing brands do you look

up to for inspiration?

A: A variety from OffWhite,

Mukukuzvi by Ray Vines and

Tsotsi KL by Khetsatsi from

South Africa. Indeed we learn

from the pros with a touch up of

my own thing.

The Wheel 49

Q: If you could pass on a nugget of

wisdom to aspiring young designers like

you, what would you say?

A: The clothing industry in Zimbabwe is

complicated therefore success and profit

will not be instantly gained, it takes time

and perseverance. However, keep

pushing!

Q: Through your journey what’s your

overall dream for Ama2K clothing?

A: Brand recognition globally.

Q: What are some of the challenges you

have faced in your startup and how did

you overcame them?

A: I would say, market reach. We do use

social media however we need more

advertisement.

Q: Understandable for any start-up hence

that’s why we as The Wheel Magazine are

here for you. We know there are so many

hidden gems like you out there! Thank

you for sharing your story. Wish you all

the best young an with the business.

Happy

Feet !

By Patrick Ndowa

TThe Wheel Magazine

is all about showcasing

inspirational minds and

has nothing but praise

for individuals like

Praise Smyth. Women

soccer is not as popular

in Zimbabwe as it is in

some parts of the world

but there are some people

who go out of their way

to advocate and promote

it in any way possible.

This is the reason why

we sat down with Praise

for an insight into what

is being done to levitate

the plight of women in

sports. Praise narrates

her story....

Growing up, I was very active in

sports and was always the best. I

remember I was the only girl in

the soccer amd volleyball team at

primary school. I went to

Sandringham for my high school

where I played volleyball and

tennis from form 1 to 6. Soon

after high school, I went to China

for Martial Arts under WUSHU

Praise Smyth

scholarship. In 2016, I enrolled

at Hillside Teachers College and

that’s when the real thing started.

I was nominated into SRC and

I won the election. This earned

me a prize for having the best

female leadership skills and I was

the 1st ever to win it on graduation.

I was elected into ZTSU

executive in 2018 as a student rep

and I got nominated into Cucsa

executive in 2018. I have always

advocated for sports people. In

2018, after completing my course

as a teacher. I sat down with my

best friend and we discussed a lot

about women sports and realised

we had the same views and vision.

We then decided to put our ideas

together so that we work towards

improving the face of women

football. We started off as

trainers at some academy in

Bulawayo where we left after

the person we were helping lied

and failed to meet the promised

retains. We started working on

Facebook under a page called

Superstar Womens Soccer and I

had my own page, African Talent.

The aim was to make visible our

local talent and showcase on other

platforms so that people can see

what is being done at the lowest

level of the sports stuff. We got

into an agreement with Bayethe

Business Institution so that they

assist us administratively as we

run our business. We have mainly

done advocacy online for girls

and women in sports. Currently

our work is on social media and

our name is Happy Feet. In 2011,

I was privileged to visit China

under a scholarship and I was

doing Martial arts at the best

Wushu School where legends

learnt as well i.e. Jackie Chan and

where the famous Karate Kid film

was shot. In 2014 to 2015, I had

a series of trips to Swaziland for

volleyball as a fan for Railstars.

The Wheel 52

Sport/ Fitness

2018, I was part of the CUCSA

contingent that went to Botswana and

again, I got to interact with athletes who

were from different corners of southern

Africa. In 2019, I attended the CUCSA

AGM in Zambia. In June 2019, I saw

myself flying to Paris for the 1st ever

women’s world cup convention for football

and I was with my best friend. In

2019 December, I flew to Germany for a

women’s football development conference

which was hosted by Discover Football.

A short interview had us asking a bit

more about her sporting discipline in

detail. This is what went down:

Patrick: What’s your take on Zimbabwean

sports especially women inclusion?

Praise: Well, it seems like we going back

daily really. It hurts that we have so much

talent but no support. Women always

come last and seem less important which

is not fair. Sport is a career and women

deserve more. We are mothers, wives and

athletes. You train and play for a thank

you yet you have a house to run and a

family looking up to you. It would be

great to be given a chance to lead and

implement what you think works and get

all the support you need, no restrictions

or conditions. It’s good that positions are

open for women but the truth is, who are

you to occupy that position? Information

is bottle-necked and so are the

opportunities.

Patrick: What have you been up to since

the introduction of the lockdown?

Praise: Upon announcement of lockdown,

I created a group where I had

workout buddies and we would share

workout tips. We discussed how we were

copying in the lockdown and how to improve

on diet, fitness and living a healthy

life. Many people started joining and in

the 2nd phase of the lockdown, results

started coming, testimonials too and

it became a buddie group. To date, the

group exists, we share ideas and now, I

got a gym to use and invited more friends

and created another workout buddie

group. So the lockdown wasn’t

bad after all as it challenged me

to work as I realised also that

mental health is real and needs

to be addressed as it results

from different stresses and

exercises helped many to calm

their nerves.

Patrick: What’s your dream

for Happy Feet?

Praise: It’s my hope that it

grows to be a women-led

organisation that stands for

women, narture talent and give

girls a platform to explore and

showcase their talent and play

to their level best. I want to see

them grow to their best

ability and achieve more

through sport and be able to

stand on their feet and not be

dependent on anyone.

Patrick: Tell us about the gym

you are running in Hillside.

Praise: Well the gym is at a

school of cosmetology called

Mirror and it was idle for a

long time. I saw life where

there was none and I

decided to run the gym and I

would do live sessions on

Facebook and I got people

contacting to join me. Since

it’s a small place, I have a small

clientele base and we help each

other achieve our goals. It has

become a home away from

home.

Patrick: What message would

you like to give to the young

people in

Zimbabwe and those who are

into sport?

Praise: We all have a job to do.

Athletes, technical and

administrators always

remember whatever you are

doing, you are also leaving a

legacy for the next generation.

Ask yourself if this is what you

want the next generation to

inherit? Let’s make our brand

valuable and market it so that

we get sponsors coming in.

Sport is not just for leisure but

it’s a career that can give someone

a decent living and be a

better someone and benefit the

community they come from If

others are making it why not

me!

Motivation

Be The

LEADER

You Want

To Be

HHave a simple distinction that

reveals a different mind-set. We

are all born with the ability to be

leaders in different aspects as we

are born with different talents in

our palms (Hard work defeats

talent). But what makes one cross

the line and become a leader? It

is a mentally that kicks in and

makes one think outside the box

due to what you have

experienced, endured and overcome.

We all have experienced,

endured and overcome situations

that could be our motives in life,

but freely, we choose to wash

away our past that could help

us succeed: CHANCES AND

CHOICES. Embrace your past

and make it useful. Change the

way you see yourself first and be

the leader you always wanted.

Think

differently like a leader and not

like a follower. There are two

animals that God identified

himself with. The first one is the

Eagle and the second one is the

Lion that has the spirit of leadership.

The word spirit referring to

Latisha Kamanda

Motivational Speaker

the lions’ attitude. A leader has an

attitude that is different from

followers. Exhibit your attitude

and be the leader you want.

The closest thing to leadership is

parenting, a lifestyle that comes

with commitment, controlling

another human being. You learn

to be a parent, you ask your

parents, friends, read magazines

and seek advice on how to be a

good parent for we are all not

perfect. They’re also ups and

downs, successes and failures in

parenting so as leadership. The

greatest failure of all is giving up.

Do not be imprisoned by your

past, other people’s opinions,

limited beliefs on yourself,

relationships and lastly, money.

Let go of painful past and make

it your pillar of strength. Do not

allow people to judge and control

your life, direct your own life.

Anything is possible with God

so do not limit yourself. Don’t let

your partner control life or limit

your abilities. Greatest of all, do

not allow your decisions to be

controlled by the money you have

or do not have. It’s only your

attitude that helps you breakthrough

and be successful or

brings your downfall. Its time you

rise and be the leader you always

wanted to have.

“ Change the way

you see yourself

first and be the

leader you always

wanted. Think

differently like a

leader and not

like a follower. ”
