Mission Statement
The mission of the National Day of Prayer (NDP) Task Force is to
mobilize unified public prayer for America.
About the Ministry
The National Prayer Committee formed a national prayer
subcommittee in 1981, which became the National Day of Prayer
(NDP) Task Force in 1989 under the leadership of Vonette Bright.
Shirley Dobson chaired this initiative from 1991 to 2016, followed
by Anne Graham Lotz until 2017, and Dr. Ronnie Floyd until 2019.
Kathy Branzell, a longtime board member as well as prayer,
compassion, care and evangelism ministry leader, who has served
and led alongside each of these amazing leaders, now serves as
the president of our organization. In Kathy’s twenty years with NDP
she has grown strong relationships with our staff, coordinators and
donors.
Today, under Kathy’s leadership, the NDP Task Force mobilizes
thousands of volunteers who coordinate tens of thousands of events
every year – uniting millions of Americans in prayer for our nation
and for its leaders.
Psalm 40:16 But may all who seek you rejoice and
be glad in you; may those who long for your saving
help always say, “The LORD is great!”
Dear Friends,
As I look back on 2020 I must express great gratefulness to our
Lord even in the midst of grieving and great challenges because
every trial gave the National Day of Prayer Task Force (NDPTF)
the opportunity to mobilize unified public prayer for America
with an increasing impact like we have never experienced
before. Wave after wave of unexpected and increasing pain
also increased prayer and the number of people, places, and
platforms that we were able to minister to throughout 2020.
Our National Broadcast on May 7th united people across
America and around the world, as my friend and co-host Will
Graham, the BGEA team and countless others generously
partnered together to “Pray God’s Glory.” The Spirit united
hearts and prayers in what was described as a “Togetherness”
amid a time of isolation. We are thankful for all of the days of
prayer that have been organized this year and that prayer has
been prioritized as a first response not a last resort; but the first
Thursday of May will always be The National Day of Prayer by law.
In trials and triumphs this 70- year call for prayer is not a mere
tradition, it is a holy day, set aside for our Americans to pray for
our nation.
As we turn the page of our calendars, we are excited to step
into the 70th Anniversary year of the National Day of Prayer.
Seventy years of “Praying for America;” through war and peace,
mourning and celebration, as the saying goes, “History belongs
to the intercessors who believe the future into being.” We are so
thankful for all of you who have prayed
and supported us as we have served God
and our nation through so many seasons
of change and challenges so that we could
continually seek God, long for His saving
help, and always proclaim together, “Our
Lord is great!”
For His Glory,
Kathy Branzell
HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2020
ANNUAL PRAYER EVENTS
We met the month of March with thousands of coordinators
preparing for their local, state and area National Day of Prayer
gatherings, as well planning the final details for our National
Observance in Washington D.C. Little did we know that we would be
stunned to face April with the reality that not only would we not be
able to have in person gatherings – but that many of us would not
be able to attend church on Easter Sunday. The NDP Task Force
stepped quickly into this opportunity to take our nation through a
Lenten and Lengthened Season of Prayer, providing daily Scripture,
devotional thoughts and prayer prompts leading up to Easter.
We took the opportunity again in the Fall as
America was tearing itself apart in many ways.
Our Nehemiah Response prayer journey rallied
unity and love to rebuild a wall of prayer and
worship posting Scripture and prayer on our
social media walls for 52 days. In addition, we
shared two additional national prayers in times
of great pain that were shared by Pastors and
prayer warriors across the nation.
In the weeks leading up to the National Day
of Prayer, our thousands of volunteers took
direction and inspiration from the Task Force to
pivot their events and mobilize thousands of National Day of Prayer
gatherings via Facebook Live, Zoom, distanced prayer walks, and
drive-in events.
NATIONAL LEADERSHIP SUMMIT
Like the 2020 National Observance, the 2020 NDP Leader’s Summit move
coordinators together from all over the country. Breakout sessions allowed
share resources, and get to know one another better. Attendees also had
members, learn about new NDP initiatives, and take advantage of the new
between sessions. The highlight of this years Summit was the new theme r
powerful message from 2 Corinthians chapter 3, ending with the new them
and Liberty” from the theme verse, 2 Corinthians 3:17. We praise God for m
coordinators to safely gather, together apart, to pray for each other, the w
country and for our world!
NATIONAL OBSERVANCE
Shifting to a virtual National
Observance this year, the National
Day of Prayer garnered 595,000
views online and had a television
reach of nearly 1.2 billion households
across the US, Latin America and
Europe through partnerships with
BGEA, GodTV, Daystar, Enlace,
Revelation TV UK, CBN, TLN and
others. Radio partnerships with SiriusXM, Bott, Salem and Moody
radio networks, and others had a reach of just under 100 million
households across the US. Despite the obstacles and challenges, this
year’s virtual event reached into more homes than ever before.
SOCIAL MEDIA & ONLINE GROWTH
As we mobilized prayer for America during the month of May, social
media posts about “prayer” and “America” increased 42% from May
2019. Social media posts during May 2020 about “National Day of
Prayer” increased by 26% from last May. On the National Day of
Prayer, millions were engaged on social media platforms and called
upon to intercede for America and encouraged to Pray God’s Glory
Across the Earth!

via email – we engaged, equipped, and

month.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2021
National Day of Prayer - 70th Anniversary Celebration
The National Day of Prayer observance was created in 1952 by a
joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by
President Harry S. Truman, each year since then, amended in 1988
to be the First Thursday of May, our President has called upon the
citizens of our nation to prayer. The significance for us as a nation is
that it enables us to recall and to teach the way in which our founding
fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical challenges
and decisions. It stands as a call for us to humbly come before God,
seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a
people. In 2021, we will celebrate the 70 years of prayer for America.
2021 National Observances from Washington D.C.
On Thursday, May 6th, 2021, we plan to
participate in the congressionally sponsored
Annual National Observance on Capitol Hill midday,
then through the collaborative efforts of
our ministry and broadcast partners, through
television and via social media, we will broadcast
and stream an evening prayer gathering LIVE from
the Bible Museum in Washington D.C. – reaching into
hundreds of millions of households across our nation
and throughout the world.
2021 National Day of Prayer Gatherings
Along with our Washington gathering, we plan to once again mobilize
through resourcing and coaching, our more than 17,000 volunteer
leaders, to rally more than 60,000 local and virtual community
events in every state in the union. We hope to see millions gather
humbly to repent, demonstrate unity, and passionately pray for
America.
2021 National Leadership Summit
In September of 2021, we plan to gather
our volunteer coordinators from across
the nation ‘in person’ for our annual
national summit in St. Louis, Missouri. Our
summits are critical for the development
of strategic relationships, year-round
prayer mobilization and ministry,
partnering, collaboration, training and
announcing our annual mobilization theme
including prayer prompts and year-long
action steps.
United in Love
In January of 2021 we will launch United in
Love, a multi-year, multi-tiered campaign to
see the Church united in love and obedience
to the design, dignity and demands that we
read about in God’s Word. Our desire is to
encourage and equip believers to be effective
hearers and effectual doers of the Word. United
in Love is not a one-time response to a moment in history.
It is the first step toward new levels of reconciliation and rebuilding.
As one body, in One Spirit, serving One God, in obedience to His
Word through prayer and love. To jumpstart this initiative, we have
brought Kanita Benson on staff as our Director of Intercultural
Prayer and Missions to oversee these projects and cultivate new
ministry relationships.
Love Beyond Podcast - We will launch
and produce a podcast in order to host
crucial conversations that lead to Christ-like
collaboration and not critical confrontation that
divides and dishonors others. Conversations will
highlight the Word of God and prayer, spotlighting
projects, partners, resources, and opportunities
to unite, educate, activate, and sustain ongoing
expressions and actions of love.
Media and Events – Along with our podcast,
we will use our social media channels, partner
channels, and events to share the Biblical principles and examples
that educate and demonstrate how to develop and maintain a
prayer, care, share lifestyle.
Resources and Training - We will collaborate
with partner organizations to share and create
resources and training that will educate and
empower churches, ministries, and individuals to
more effectively mobilize strategic, intentional
prayer in their congregations and communities.
Testimonials - We will celebrate through
thousands of shared ‘glory stories’, that testify
about how strategic prayer and intentional acts
of love can change hearts, lives, relationships,
communities, and even nations.
2021 ANNUAL THEME
Our theme this year is Lord
Pour Out Love, Life, and
Liberty from 2 Corinthians
