TECHNOLOGIESCOTTON CASING VS NYLON CASINGCasing is the part of the tyre on which the tread lays: it is fundamental in sustaining the structure of the tire and in protecting it from puncturesand external agents. Vittoria road tires are made with cotton or nylon casing.Vittoria top-of-the-range tires (Corsa and Pista lines) use cotton, a light material which makes the casing very flexible. The cotton threads allowthe tire to conform closer to the road’s surface, providing a smoother ride, easier rolling, and better grip. In order to boost the overall strength ofthe casing, Vittoria uses Corespun yarn, which is a particular type of yarn made by cotton and aramid fibres combined.Rubino and Zaffiro lines use the nylon casing. Nylon is a robust and durable artificial fiber traditionally used for strong tire casings. The artificialfiber can be very light but is not as supple as cotton.The advantages of nylon casing is that they are strong and durable. As the nylon fibre is more robust than the cotton one, it provides higherpuncture resistance and extends the durability of the casing. However, the nylon casing is not as flexible and lightweight as the cotton one.Both cotton and nylon casings from Vittoria are top quality. The choice depends on the rider’s needs. Cotton tires are a better choice if you arelooking for race performance, speed and lightweight above all.
