COLLECTION
Our Slow Weave Collection encapsulates the core
of our ethics and values at Rugs for Good. Made in
small batches to ensure that the artisans are provided
with long term, sustainable work rather than short
and large bursts. This is to support our beloved
artisans who create these beautiful pieces of art. We
only work with one group of weavers - not multiple
factories. 100% of the profit from sales goes to the
Shanti Bhavann Children’s Project. We are child
labour free and are ethically and fairly made with
GoodWeave International certification. This collection
is of the highest ethical standard in the rug industry.

A GREATER CAUSE
Shanti Bhavan
Shanti Bhavan is a non-profit
organisation that was founded in
1997 by professor, entrepreneur, and
author Dr. Abraham George.
Shanti Bhavan empowers children from
India’s lowest socioeconomic class to
break the cycle of generational poverty
through education, leadership, and
compassion.
Its current boarding school is located
in Tamil Nadu, 1.5 hours southeast of
Bangalore. They are currently raising
funds to build a second school. Children
recruited to Shanti Bhavan come from
families that earn less than $2 a day. 60%
of the children come from rural villages
and 40% from urban slums. 95% of the
children also belong to the Dalit caste
(formerly known as the “untouchables”).
Shanti Bhavan goes beyond basic literacy.
Our students learn to be global citizens
and leaders who change the world with
integrity, compassion, and focus.
4 SLOW WEAVE COLLECTION
One year of 24/7 care, food, clothing, shelter, top-level education,
mentorship, medical care, and access to arts and athletics programs
costs roughly $1,800 per student at our residential school. During
our students’ college education, costs are approximately $3,200 per
student per year. No other program offers this level of education, this
length of intervention, or this amount of support completely free of
charge. The focus is on achieving results through top-level education,
long-term mentoring and professional guidance.
A student typically joins Shanti Bhavan at age four. Shanti Bhavan
continues to provide support until the student graduates from
college. Each year, Shanti Bhavan is forced to turn away hundreds of
children because one school simply cannot take in all of them.
Rugs for Good donates 100% of the profit from our sales to the Shanti
Bhavan Organisation. Your purchase goes straight to supporting the
Shanti Bhavan’s goal of getting a new school.

BEHIND THE SCENES
The making
of the rugs
The rug weaving techniques carried by artisans in
India today, date back to the 16 th Century. In the State
of Uttar Praddesh where our Slow Weave collection
has been made, you will find the most talented
weavers in the world.
The artisans are proud about their heritage and their
ancient expertise. Each rug is delicately and lovingly
crafted, providing us with rugs that tell a remarkable
story of devotion to craftsmanship that can't be
replicated by any machine.
At Rugs For Good, we are passionate about
supporting the continuation of these ancient skills by
focusing on handcrafted rugs made fairly & ethically.

BEHIND THE SCENES
The making of the rugs
STEP 1
Dyeing
The dyeing is done by
master colour specialists
who have refined their
skills through generations.
Dyeing is done by
turning the wool through
cauldrons of dye that sit
above a wood fire. In large
batches,that are processed
in a trough with the fibre
hung over thick bamboo
sticks. It is then dried in the
sunshine out in the rural
fields of Bhadohi.
STEP 2
Spinning
Wool and viscose are still
hand spun using wooden
or copper spindles.

Washing
The washing of one rug
can take up to 4 hours.
It is done outside with
buckets of soapy water
and wooden paddles are
used to squeeze out the
water. It is then combed
to remove any loose fibres
and is rinsed the same way.
It is then hung out to dry in
the fields on large bamboo
sticks.
STEP 5
Final Touches
This involves stretching,
binding, dry washing,
trimming and clipping.
A manual process that
ensures the rug is finished
at the highest standards
and to promote its
durability.
One rug takes approximately
