WHERE TO GO FROM HERE
After compliance is achieved the
journey can end with an RFID program that
resulted in added cost with no return, or you can
continue the journey towards ROI. The journey
most likely began in the compliance phase with
education on RFID and it’s components, testing
inlays on products, deploying pilot systems,
developing infrastructure and setting technical
goals. With the main goal of keeping the
customer accomplished, the reward after
compliance is discovering uses for data
generated by RFID and using it to improve
production planning and streamline business
processes. One major manufacturer found
another use for RFID tags besides compliance.
Tags are used to write test data as products pass
through quality control points in the
manufacturing process. If a product is returned
for warranty repair the technicians can see how
it performed at each step in the manufacturing
process. This statistical data can be compiled
and used to improve manufacturing controls or
to detect potential design flaws.
Manufacturers have to look at more than
just the cost of the label itself. Label costs are
perpetual, but the key is to reduce the “applied
tag cost” to create an acceptable ROI.
Datamax can help you control the “applied tag
cost” or how much in additional labor and
opportunity cost is involved in labeling products
with RFID labels. By adding automation, the
applied tag cost decreases and the benefits of
RFID become visible. For more information on
