Licentious Brand Guide
Ideas for Licentious brand. The first few pages (pp1-3) show the feel of the new brand style and direction in combination with the already established imagery and language . The next few (pp4-7) go more in to detail of the design choices I made and what they add to the brand. And the final page is more of the brand elements in context of usage and possibly some fuel for future direction of Licentious.

the basis of color, orientation, gender, or
physical appearance. We exist to evoke
change within the sex industry and
brands that profit from gender
discrimination and
cultural appropriation.
Licentious is not
a brand, but a
platform built by
the people and
enforced by the
people.

Licentious bring you BDSM
inspired products that work for
all! No longer feel uncomfortable
with showing off who you love!
We are LGBTQ+ friendly and

The yellow adds a much needed pop of color
to go with the black and white aesthetic to
spark interest and be eye catching. Though
naturally contrasting with black, the yellow
retains the overall feeling of intrigue of
Licentious while introducing the symbolism
of an electric zing of sexual pleasure.
The color also makes Licentious more
approachable and accessible while still
keeping its more fringe aesthetic and
somewhat illicit feel when paired with the
existing imagery and photographic style.

Maple Black is the typeface the logo is
based off of. It is not a typical typeface that
many would recognize, so it is not overused
in other brands design and remains unique.
The Maple Black font is what is called a san
serif typeface which is more modern than
the serif typeface of the current logo. Using
this kind of font will bring licentious a more
contemporary feel and ultimately attract
more of the presumed target audience. It
also has a bold and commanding weight
symbolizing an aspect of BDSM ideology.
The graphic element with in the logo
is based off the Figure 8 knot. This
knot is an aesthetically pleasing as
well as functional knot. This mirrors
how bondage knot tying is about the
artistry of the knot tying as much as it
is about the physical restraint.
The Figure 8 knot inspired graphic is
also, perhaps more obviously, used as
a typographic element, replacing the
letters c and e in the brand name.
ABOUT THE LOGO
Full Color
This version of the logo removes any
connotation or allusion to gender signifiers.
The lipstick print in the current logo, while
not necessarily gendered in and of itself,
does hold gendered meaning culturally
and therefore may come across to some as
exclusionary.
These changes bring the logo more in line
with the core tenants and ideals of Licentious.
