Brewers Decorator Centres
supporting St Wilfrid’s
Neal Brewer, Director, told us:
‘I have been a supporter of St Wilfrid’s
since they looked after my dad at Mill
Gap Road. The rambling Victorian
building with its dark oak panelling
was very different from the light and
modern surroundings at Hampden
Park, but the care and compassion
shown by the fantastic staff remains
the same. They looked after my dad
so well, and it was possible for him
to come home at the end, something
that wouldn’t have been possible
without the support of the hospice.’
Brewers has a long history of giving
back to the local community. Neal
was part of a team which cycled the
South Downs Way from Winchester
to Beachy Head for the hospice
in 2017, completing the distance
despite one of the team suffering a
broken collar bone! Staff have taken
part in lots of St Wilfrid’s events
over the years including Pancake
Races and Christmas Jumper Days
and has also supported St Wilfrid’s
Moy Avenue superstore through
donations of decorating supplies.
John Ashton, Marketing Director
at Brewers, remembered being a
‘Social Commando’ at St Wilfrid’s
in the Mill Gap Road Days:
‘We could choose between
the college cadet forces
or providing company and
support for patients. We
really enjoyed talking to the
patients and they all seemed
to enjoy the interaction with
the young people.’
Brewers has a long
history of giving
back to the local
community
Most recently Brewers has been
proud to support the hospice ‘Closer
to You’ campaign by helping to
fund Community Nurses to reach
more people and make care more
accessible to people in rural areas,
and those who might find it harder
to travel to the hospice. Neal said:
‘I know that the need for end of life
care is increasing and that the current
Covid-19 pandemic has made it even
harder for some patients who may be
increasingly isolated.
‘Recent events have made us all
realise the importance of “loving
where you live” and supporting and
protecting your local community.
St Wilfrid’s is part of the community
and most people in the area will
have experienced its care in some
way. We hope that supporting the
Ruby Anniversary campaign will help
them to continue their work in the
future. It’s great that our support
makes it possible for the hospice to
reach more people. We are looking
forward to joining in with the ‘Paint
the town red’ celebration and also
hope to repeat our cycling exploits
by taking part in the hospice 40 th
anniversary Wilfride.’
