Each Demetz Art Studio creation work is a unique

workpiece of art. We use only the finest artistic oil

colors to paint our statues and our talented painters

skillfully mix their pigments as they paint each

piececreate the shades of colors at the moment

by mixing different pigments. This technique allows

us for an endless color spectrum and makes every

piece unique.

We are extremely proud of our hand craft that got

passed on for generations. The real actual pieces

stun in real life in a way is much nicer than the

pictures printed in a catalog cannot convey.

For decades our studio has been

using linden wood (tilia) to carve

statues. The Demetz family takes

great care in this process by personally

selecting wood from the lumber

dealer and then supervising the kiln

drying process in its own workshop.

Our craftsmen carefully glue together

smaller blocks piece-by-piece to

create the larger laminated wood

blocks from which all of our statues

are carved.

Back in 1976, Mr. Ivo Demetz was inspired by “the Madonnina” - an oil painting by the Italian painter

Roberto Ferruzzi commonly known as “the Madonna of the Streets” – to create a sculpture of this

depiction. His interpretation of the original painting was a three-dimensional statue of Our Lady

‘walking on the streets’, carefully carrying her beloved Baby Jesus. This sculpture gained so much

attention over the years that our studio developed other interpretations of it.

During the Renaissance, when the great Michelangelo Buonarroti

created his masterpieces, marble was considered to be the most

precious material because of its timeless beauty. Later on in the

Baroque period Gianlorenzo Bernini left his imprint in the world of

ecclesiastical art with his wonderful marble creations.

In 1517 Michelangelo found the quarry named “cava di Seravezza”

on the Mount Altissimo (4767 ft). From there he took big blocks to

create the front panels for the Church of St. Lorenzo in Florence.

This type of marble is practically impervious to the elements.

The Demetz Art Studio uses only the best quality marble from

the quarries of Tuscany: “bianco statuario” or “bianco duro” from

Carrara. The stone carving tools used nowadays have not changed

much from Michelangelo’s times. First the rough stone is hammered

with a pitching hammer, then sculptured with special pointed tools

and files. Our fine marble works are created from a model in scale, a

“moquette”, using a threedimensional pantograph designed to make

proportional calibrations by means of fixed points.

This way we can assure that the marble figure has perfect proportions

and is elaborated accurately also in its finest details.

Bronze castings are probably the most durable art form in existence. Bronze is an excellent

material for outdoor use, because it weathers well and ages gracefully.

The ancient Romans followed the Greeks in the tradition of casting larger bronze statues

by using the so called “lost wax technique.” Since then, bronze has become and remained

an important medium used for fine art.

O Lord Jesus Christ, who said, “greater love

than this no man has that a man lay down his

life for his friends,” through the intercession of

St. Maximilian Kolbe whose life illustrated such

love, we beseech you to grant us our petitions...

Through the Militia Immaculata movement,

which Maximilian founded, he spread a fervent

devotion to Our Lady throughout the world.

He gave up his life for a total stranger and

loved his persecutors, giving us an example

of unselfish love for all men - a love that was

inspired by true devotion to Mary. Grant, O

Lord Jesus, that we too may give ourselves

entirely without reserve to the love and service

of our Heavenly Queen in order to better love

and serve our fellowman in imitation of your

humble servant, Maximilian. Amen.

workpiece of art. We use only the finest artistic oil

colors to paint our statues and our talented painters

skillfully mix their pigments as they paint each

piececreate the shades of colors at the moment

by mixing different pigments. This technique allows

us for an endless color spectrum and makes every

piece unique.

We are extremely proud of our hand craft that got

passed on for generations. The real actual pieces

stun in real life in a way is much nicer than the

pictures printed in a catalog cannot convey.

Mosaic

Great architects and famous liturgical designers have taken more

and more interest in this ancient expression of art, proposing mural

decoration to embellish and enhance religious buildings. Large wall

mosaics are made with the so called “reverse application”. They are

glued on the reverse side onto paper in sections which will then be

mounted by our professional installers directly onto your church’s

front or indoor wall. These numbered sections get applied onto the

mosaic

wall by using a thin-layer of adhesive cement and finally the paper

gets removed.
