Although the term colonialism creates debates about its
existence today, it is actually an important concept that
continues to exist under the name of Imperialism in the
eyes of societies. (Click here to reach our article titled
What is Imperialism? The colonial rush has begun. Many
European countries, France, Spain, Germany, the
Netherlands and the most important island country
England, developed their own colonial, Colonialism or
Mandate models in this race, thus taking the countries
they went to both materially and spiritually under their
own purposes. What is Colonialism? In our study, the
British Colonialism model, which is shown as the most
successful among Colonialism models, will be examined
and explanations will be made about how it has evolved
into Post-Colonialism today.
What is Colonialism? How Did It Occur?
Since the time of his existence, human beings have made
many attempts to develop their own societies in line
with a certain cumulative structure and ideological
signs, with all their might to protect the societies that are
weak from him. In line with these attempts, superpowers
have occurred in today's world and have kept all
international systems in the world under control. With
the geographical discoveries that took place in the world
between 1400 and 1600, the race to establish superiority,
which we will call as simple qualities in the past, has
become even more furious and has been carried to the
present as a modern and professional state.
This geographic discovery boom initiated by Portugal,
Spain and the Netherlands caused a serious change in
the European continent. The most important
impressions of this change are especially striking in
France and England. So why were these discoveries of
such an important quality? As it is known, in ancient
times, there were very few needs of technology and the
needs of certain objects for the life source of people. The
continent of Europe is a little useful continent because of
soil fertility and human productivity. Products coming
from the eastern Indian and Chinese lands were vital to
meet the essential basic needs of this continent. These
products were able to be transported to continental
Europe with classical methods for a very long time and
at a very high cost.
The issues mentioned above constitute the main reasons
of the Geographical discoveries. In line with these
reasons, we have started to search for a new way to
reach India and China without using a vehicle and to
reduce the cost of the products to be transported, and to
create an alternative to the trade route we call Silk Road.
Portugal and Spain, which were the forerunners of this
movement, carried out many activities and in 1488, the
Portuguese had turned their hopes [1] and a Continental
European control line was established to the Indian trade
route.
4
After reaching India with these trade activities, with
the discovery of the American continent, which is
called the New World, an excellent raw material
entry to Europe was provided in an instant.
Following these, the industrial revolution that took
place in England in the 1800s has brought an
international structure by removing the
geographical discoveries from finding a trade route
and recognizing the continents. The most important
change experienced by Europe, which got rid of the
non-development nature of the feudal, political and
economic order, was the Industrial Revolution with
its widespread use.
Colonialism activities of England were born in line
with the needs brought about by the industrial
revolution and Britain did this with a unique method
and became a school in the direction of Colonialism
activities in the world.
The Industrial Revolution and Its Impact on Britain
What is Colonialism? The biggest reason why
England, the first country that comes to mind as the
answer to the question, chose colonialism as a goal
for itself, is the Industrial Revolution. The First
Industrial Revolution was the most fundamental
transformation of humanity and the second most
important turning point in its history for modern
economists, and it started in England in the 18th
century. The industrial revolution has had its effect
on all areas of the British economy, as well as how
the inventions made during this period brought
science and technology together. With the
combination of these two structures, it has been
revealed with the combination of space, time and
sector how they cause socio-economic and cultural
changes.
The first industrial revolution formed the basis of
the British expansionism movement. Later, Britain
started a major colonial activity to reach raw
material resources in order to increase its
production volume in the world. On the basis of the
industrial revolution, it is divided not as a single
movement but as period by period.
5
These are the 18th century, the first industrial
revolution, the creation of basic, simple steam machines,
the late 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the
Second Industrial Revolution, the production of mass
production machines, the Third Industrial Revolution
with the machines programmable with the Transistor
invention in 1947, and in 2011 at the Hannover Fair. It is
the Global British Trade network, which we can call the
Fourth Industrial Revolution.
As a result of the industrial revolution, issues that can be
regarded as the basis of today's modern state systems in
England have occurred. First of all, the formation of the
Cromwell rebellion and the idea of the republic, the
socio-political structure, the development of trade, the
development of maritime and maritime trade,
mercantilism, the development of the textile industry,
population growth, the development of mining [4],
demographic change, agricultural revolution, trade
revolution, developments in the field of transportation,
capital growth, developments in industrial technology
and developments in the financial market [5] have
occurred.
The reflection of centralization and hierarchy on the
public administration has found its place with
bureaucracy. The influence of modern management
thought on public administration has undoubtedly been
embodied by bureaucracy.
Bureaucracy has become indispensable with the formation
of the modern nation-state and has generally been formed
more or less intensely in all forms of government. Because
the nation-state structuring is a state form in which
centralization becomes evident and it can do this through
bureaucracy. Within this structure, while bureaucracy was
the implementer of public policies in democratic systems, it
could be effective in every stage of public policy-making in a
political system where democracy is not in accordance with
western standards. [6]
Above we have briefly evaluated the formation of the
Industrial Revolution and its effects on England. This change
in England has turned into a global system that is not only
based in England. Now, we will give some information about
what kind of colonization and search for raw material model
Britain changed with this revolution

Short Turkish History
Turks are one of the oldest nations in the world.
From the Huns to the Scythians whose existence is

took the stage strongly in AD, from the Uyghurs to
the Karakhanids and later on, the Turks, who
founded many states, generally stated; They live in a
wide geography from the Balkans to the Pacific
Ocean, from the Arctic Ocean to Tibet. [1] In the 6th
century Roman sources, the region of Turkestan
where Turks lived was named “Turchia”. The
Turkish nation is scattered across many geographies
throughout history, Azerbaijan today, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan,
including 6 independent state, which is recognized

Turkish Name
Today, the Turkish name, the Republic of Turkey,
Turkmenistan, Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic as
countries such as East Turkestan is used as the name of
the state and informal. Other independent Turkish states
adopted the names of their tribes as a result of the
separation policy of the Russians and used these names in
the state they founded.
Azerbaijan and the Origin of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is a Turkish country in the Caucasus, which is
the intersection point of Western Asia and Eastern Europe
today. Azerbaijani Turks, who have lived in these lands
for many years, belong to the Oguz group of Turkish, the
Oguz tribe. According to the 2019 census, 9,981 million
people live in Azerbaijan.
It has been called Arran and Shirvan by Arab
historians. In the opinion of Mehmed Emin
Resulzade, it was named after Satrap Atropet, who
rebelled against the Greek-Bahter Empire established
by Alexander of Macedonia and declared
independence. According to Ahmet Caferoğlu's
opinion, the name Azerbaijan comes
from Persian and is formed by the combination of the words
"atar" and "patar". The word Atar means fire, and the word
patar means country. The Arab historian Taberi, taking into
account the various folk narratives, states that this country
was named Azerbaijan because the largest fire worshiped
was found here. [
If we consider that natural gas is the most important
underground resource of Azerbaijan today, opinions can
gain meaning. Kaşgarlı Mahmud, in his book Divanü
Lügati't-Türk, explained the word Azerbaijan as "Azerbad"
that is "the place where wood (fire) abandons".
In the word Azeri, ideological theses stand out. According to
the view of "Media-Atropatena" put forward by Josef Stalin,
although Azerbaijanis are the non-Turkish people who speak
the language of those living on the Iranian plateau, they
have become Turks by melting among the Turks over time.
However, this thesis has no validity. Again, as a result of the
divide-and-rule policy of the Russians, they were called Azeri
in order not to use the name Turk and to make the
Azerbaijani Turks accept that they are a different nation.

In the early days of psychology, there were two
theoretical perspectives on how the brain works.
Structuralism and functionalism. Structuralism; It is
an approach that focuses on separating mental
processes pioneered by Wilhelm Wundt into the
most basic components. They researched the human
mind and its elements. For this, they used the
Looking-In method. Introspection is a method that
involves expressing the observations and inferences
in the perception, sensation, thoughts and feelings
experienced by a person in the face of a stimulus in
psychology. Wundt was the first person to
systematize the method of introspection
experimentally in the 19th century and show it as
the method of psychology.
Functionalism; It was born as a reaction to
structuralism. There are two important names in this
theory; John Dewey and William James.
Functionalism argued that in order to understand
the human mind, one should look at its function
rather than its structure. The important thing is to
discover the relationship between conscious
experiences and behavior. It's not just the structure
of the mind; They also tried to examine the adaptive
functions of behavior and mental life. Functionalism
served as an important bridge between
constructivism and behaviorism.
Later, with a group of American psychologists
opposing structuralism and functionalism,
behaviorism theory emerged. Behaviorism
advocated the need to examine behaviors and
observable states, not states of consciousness.
There are two important names in this theory.
Pavlov and John Watson. Watson; He insisted that
psychology should be limited to the study of what
humans and animals do.
Gestalt Psychology was developed in Germany in
the early 1900's. In the opinion of Gestalt
psychologists, our behaviors and lives do not consist
of simple elements. It is a theory of psychology
focused on perception and perceptual organization
within cognitive processes. The main principle of
gestalt psychology is that the mind organizes itself
to see a whole in what it perceives. Events in one
part of the area are affected by events in the other
part. In other words, it's more than all the parts.

Being a Woman in the Victorian Era
The Victorian era is the period when Queen
Victoria ruled in England from 1837 until her
death in 1901. This period was Britain's heyday.
Despite being a woman, Queen Victoria has
shown many achievements all over the world.
Her success in management has proven how
successful women can be. However, because of
the centuries-old patriarchal thought system,
the Victorian Era was a rather dark period for
women; His rules in social life were very strictIn
the Victorian era, many changes occurred in
society with industrialization; There were
injustices. The structure of society changed
rapidly and serious changes occurred in the
socio-cultural levels of people. I
n this social structure where people are divided
according to their social classes,..life has become
more difficult for the lower classes. It was
especially difficult to be a middle class and lower
class woman during this period. As a matter of
fact, it was difficult to be a woman throughout
the entire Victorian Era. The most comfortable
women after the Queen were aristocratic-class
women, but their comfort was limited, as they
remained loyal to their men. Women belonging to
this class lived a life that other class women could
not imagine, even if only to some extent.
A Love Without Love and Passion
The Victorian era was also dominated by various
moral codes. 'Morality' was the biggest concept
imposed on society in the Victorian era. A loveless
and passionless marriage was believed to be
sacred. It was a time when women had to
suppress all kinds of sexual urges and emotions.
During this period, women had two options; Being
'chaste' or 'prostitute'.
12
Women should preserve their chastity and at the same time be 'Angel in the House', 'angel in the
house', obey their husbands. When women went out they were treated like a demon. Although
we cannot directly say that there is the same system in today's world, we see that this system is
applied particularly strongly in some regions.
WOMEN WERE EXPECTED TO MARRIED AND HAVE CHILDREN WHEN THEY WERE 21 YEARS OLD
If you think you are staying at home, think like this; In the Victorian Era, women were expected to
get married when they turned 21. They did not have the right to work like men. Women,
especially women of the aristocratic class, were not allowed to work because they dropped
their titles. Their home was their workplace, and their wives were their bosses. They were only
obliged to do housework and to raise their children well. They also had to obey their wives.
But middle and lower class women had to work to earn income. Moreover, they could not work
in every job; Although they did the same jobs as men where they worked, they received lower
wages. These women who worked under difficult conditions were constantly exploited and their
rights were ignored.
