WATCH SCHEDULING

WHY WATCH SCHEDULING?

Watch scheduling is a superior way to schedule your time because it allows for more freedom and

flexibility. You don’t have to schedule every second or even every hour of your life rigidly. Blocks (or

watches) keep you on a schedule, but within a block you can work freely instead of playing catch up all day

trying to meet hour-by-hour or minute-by-minute start-times for every task - the latter of which usually

makes us feel defeated and often leads us to not accomplish anything once we’re off schedule. Another

nice thing about a block schedule is that each person gets to make it their own - completely catered to

their lifestyle.

Pro TIPS

1. We suggest you fill this out in pencil. This way as the month progresses and you decide to change

certain things (and you likely will) you can easily. Alternatively, there is a blank copy of the Block

Schedule Template available on our website on the Documents page that you can print and fill out.

2. Tasks that occur on a monthly or weekly basis should be prioritized ( ). Aim to accomplish them near

*

the beginning of the day so that you’re more likely to do them. Though they might not be a major

priority, if you want to get them done and prevent putting them off for weeks or months at-a-time it is

best to prioritize them right away.

3. Next tackle your ‘MUST DO’ tasks - things like WORK, SCHOOL, PLANNING WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY, etc.

4. For tasks that are more detailed you might want to outline them on a separate sheet in another

notebook. For example, if you have ‘Plan Weekly Bible Study’ on your tasks for the day, consider writing

out a detailed list of what all needs to be done on a separate sheet of paper or in a note on your phone

(Try the Suru App - see the blog post on our website). This way you don’t have to try to fit that all in

your blocks, waste time writing it out each day etc.

5. The first week you layout your block schedule, try timing yourself on tasks you do regularly (like ‘Plan

Weekly Bible Study’) to see how long your tasks take. Work at a comfortable speed and record the

approx. times next to the tasks on your TO DO list. This is helpful as it will prevent the ever common

error we all make of overscheduling - thinking we can accomplish certain tasks in a lot less time than

we actually can. For example, “I can clean my car in half an hour” when it actually takes you much

longer. Once you know how long a task takes, you can divvy it up over the course of several days.

6. You will likely need two block schedules and as such two sets of sheets are provided. One schedule will

be what you do every day from the first day (Sunday) to the sixth day (Friday) of the week. The other

will be a Sabbath schedule. Some might even find that they need three block schedules throughout the

week - if, for example, they work a varied shift that can’t be blocked out the same way each day. Below

you will see some tips that might help to keep you at only two schedules if you use a bit of imagination

and creativity. Working with more than two block schedules is not ideal, but you may find you have to.

7. Varied work schedule? Consider a block schedule setup with blocks like ‘Wake Up Block’, ‘Before Work

Block’, ‘Work Block’, ‘Lunch Block’, ‘After Work Block’ etc. Basing your schedule on the time-of-day

instead of specific hours.
