THE ORIGINAL

The classic black notebook with ivory coloured pages

and rounded corners is an object imbued with history

and creativity. Beginning in France and used by

cultural icons like Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso,

Ernest Hemingway and Bruce Chatwin, the Moleskine

Notebook has upheld and continued this legacy.

LEGENDARY BEGINNINGS

The notebook that Bruce Chatwin called “moleskine”

became increasingly scarce in the 1980s before

disappearing from production completely. In 1997,

a small Italian publisher brought the legendary

notebook back to life, and with it an extraordinary

tradition of creativity and self-expression.

PAPER EVOLVES

Today, the original Moleskine Notebook is part of a

family of versatile tools, for ordinary and extraordinary

journeys, to foster creativity and improve productivity.

Somewhere to upload and share pictures of creative

projects that use Moleskine notebooks as a canvas:

illustrations of a special journey, watercolor sketches

of a cityscape, penciled portraits of a stranger in

Emilio Pucci is synonymous with bold geometric

prints and bright color palettes. The brand became

famous in the 1950s for its bright, flowing designs

that contrasted starkly with the structured and

restrictive outfits of the day. Emilio Pucci’s patterns,

lines and use of color, inspired by the world around

him, continue to influence designers in Italy and

As part of the company’s commitment to reducing

waste, each of the 16 Custom Edition Notebooks

made by Moleskine is covered with new fabric left

over from the production process.

HOLIDAY GIFTS

This Custom Edition Notebook, featuring the

instantly recognizable Nike swoosh, was developed

by Moleskine for end-of-year gifting. The American

multinational, the world’s largest supplier of athletic

shoes and sportswear, found the perfect running

Fiji Water choose Moleskine to create a fullycustomized

commitment to its water. Bottled at source, Fiji Water

filters through volcanic rock and is then protected

and preserved from external elements in natural

artesian aquifers – right up until you unscrew the cap.

Moleskine wanted to celebrate this commitment to

quality with a special Custom Edition Notebook for

corporate gifting. The notebooks features a striking

blue cover and evocative image of Fiji printed across

the flyleaves.

is the oldest retailer in the US. This elegant Custom

Edition Notebook discreetly features the brand’s

TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS 1 2 3 4 5

There are many ways to apply a company identity to

Moleskine objects, from classic printing techniques

to the latest technological advances. You can discover

more about each below.

Note: when printing with debossing and silkscreen,

results may vary. Our team will help you make the

best technical decision to communicate your story.

FOIL DEBOSSING

This technique is the same that has been used for

thousands of years to decorate objects using gold leaf.

It creates an indentation which can be felt and the

result is striking and elegant. It is available for custom

editions in a range of colours including metallic

colours (commonly gold, silver, copper or bronze).

Foil debossing works beautifully with one or more

colours, but has some restrictions.

DIGITAL FOIL PRINTING

This technique produces an effect like foil debossing

but without the indentation because it prints flat. This

technique is mainly used to add names and initials to

notebook covers.

DIGITAL PRINTING

This is a newer technique that allows us to reproduce

full colour text and images, except metallic colours, on

a variety of surfaces. Despite having some restrictions,

it is a great way to replicate more challenging images.

BLIND DEBOSSING

Like foil debossing, this technique creates a strong

indentation which can be felt. No colour foil is added

so the notebook retains its original colour, creating an

elegant yet discreet effect.

SILKSCREEN

Also called serigraphy, this is one of the oldest printing

methods still in use today and results in bright, eyecatching

colours. It can replicate almost any colour

and therefore we always use it in printing logos and

company colours. Despite some technical restrictions,

this method works well with from one to four colours.

OFFSET PRINTING

This technique has largely substituted letterpress and

lithography due to its higher quality, faster turnover,

and lower production costs. It is a paper printing

technique that Moleskine uses for all of our paper

add-ons such as inserts, paper-bands, flyers and gift

boxes. It is available only on paper add-ons and ad hoc

projects.
