Oluwo urges Fulani to relocate to cities
•Tells Buhari to send them abroad for modern cattle rearing training
By Shina Abubakar,
Osogbo
THE Oluwo of Iwo, Oba
Abdulrosheed Akanbi
has charged President Muhammadu
Buhari to sponsor
Fulanis on foreign training
on modern cattle rearing
technology while urging the
Gaa Fulani to relocate to the
cities and mix with indigenes.
The monarch said the way
cattle rearing is done among
the Fulani herdsmen was
archaic and outdated, hence,
they need to seek modern
cattle rearing techniques.
Oluwo in a video recorded
during his visit to Gaa Fulanis,
Odo-Oba, Iwo on Thursday
said that if the children
of the herdsmen were exposed
to proper education
they could end up as elites
in the society.
“Open grazing is outdated,
it is no longer practiced
now. You feed cow in a spot.
I told the government to
empower you in other professions,
relocate you to
where you can enjoy social
amenities. The government
should shift attention to
your well-being.
“It is not all your children
that will be willing to be
herders. Some may like to
be doctors, astronauts, lawyers
etc. All your children
will not want to be just cow
merchants. I have advocated
it in the past that your
children should go to
school.
“You lack some basic
amenities here and I learnt
that you have been here
for over 200 years. You
need to relocate to town
and mix with us. You are
all residents of Iwo. We the
Yorubas chose this place
you are living in as a farm
settlement. You need to relocate
and live with us. I
want to monitor your activities
since you are not
willing to go back to your
hometown”.
The monarch disclosed
that government’s and
monarchs across the country
should focus effort towards
integrating non indigenes
in their domains
in the system and give
them a sense of belonging
that could further ensure
the security of lives and
property in the country.
Pastor Adeboye dedicates kidney dialysis Center to
mark 40th ordination anniversary
By Nkiruka Nnorom
THE Redeemed Chris
tian Church Of God
(RCCG), through its Christian
Social Responsibility (CSR)
arm - His Love Foundation
(HLF) – has dedicated a Kidney
Dialysis Center at the Pastor
Enoch And Folu Adeboye
Intensive Care Unit at the
Health Center, RCCG Camp,
Mowe, Ogun State as part of
its Christian Social Responsibilities
and also part of programmes
to celebrate Pastor
Adeboye’s 40th year ordination
as the General Overseer
of RCCG.
The Dialysis Center, which
was built and equipped to
bring critical healthcare solution
closer to the people for
the benefit of humanity in general,
and the host community
in particular, is also driven by
the mantra of RCCG to touch
people’s lives, with emphasis
on improving standards of living
by providing good education
and health through infrastructural
development.
Pastor Adeboye became the
G.O of the RCCG ministry on
January 21, 1981, and still
holds the position till present.
Speaking at the dedication of
the Kidney Dialysis Center,
Pastor Adeboye, who was represented
by Pastor Joseph
Obayemi, Continental Overseer
Africa 1 and National
Overseer Nigeria, said he has
a lot to be grateful for after so
many years of leading this
ministry.
He stressed the importance
of the church’s CSR programme,
saying it is what the
Lord Jesus Christ demands of
the church, while adding that
the church will not relent on
its efforts to impact lives positively
by providing spiritual
and physical support to everyone
irrespective of where they
are from in Nigeria.
He noted that the availability
of a Kidney Dialysis center
within the location will prevent
unnecessary deaths arising
from inadequate medical
infrastructure around the
area. Pastor Adeboye further
thanked His Love Foundation
team lead by Pastor Idowu Iluyomade,
Special Assistant to
the G.O on CSR, for making
the dream a reality.
Pastor Idowu Iluyomade
while responding said ,”The
RCCG through its CSR arm
has been very concerned
about the loss of lives due to
inadequate healthcare facilities
in the country, which
makes Nigerians spend over
$3billion annually on health
tourism seeking state of the art
health facilities in countries
like India and the UAE.
IGP: NBA drags Buhari to court over
‘illegal’ extension of Adamu’s tenure
By Ikechukwu Nnochiri
THE Nigerian Bar Asso
ciation, NBA, has instituted
an action before the
Federal High Court in Lagos
to challenge what it termed
as President Muhammadu
Buhari’s illegal extension of
the tenure of the retired Inspector
General of Police, IGP,
Mr. Mohammed Adamu.
NBA, which is the umbrella
body of legal practitioners
in the country, in a statement
that was signed by its President,
Mr. Olumide Akpata,
said the action was in fidelity
to its motto, which is
‘Promoting the Rule of Law’.
“The NBA’s decision to
take this extraordinary line
of action is underpinned by
an urgent need, and a sacred
duty to reassert the supremacy
of the rule of law
in the face of growing impunity
and the seeming reluctance
of law officers in
government to give proper
counsel.
“The NBA’s position in the
suit is that Mr Adamu
ceased to be a member of
the Nigeria Police Force
when he attained the milestone
of thirty-five years of
service. Therefore, the President’s
extension or Mr Adamu’s
tenure by three
months, in the NBA’s respectful
view, is unconstitutional.
“In the grand scheme of
things, the NBA is wary that
the more government officials
casually violate the
law, the harder it would become
to expect citizens to
be compliant.
“Citizens take their cues
from their leaders and public
office holders who flout
the laws of the country that
they are meant to uphold.
“The ubiquity of acts of
impunity, especially by
those in high public offices
portends an existential
threat to the survival of this
country and her hard won
democracy.
“The NBA, now more
than ever, is firmly committed
to changing this narrative.
“As the outcome of the
suit is awaited, the NBA
wIII continue to condemn
and confront lawlessness in
any form and from all quarters”,
the statement read.
Meanwhile, the sole issue
the NBA raised for the court
to determine in its suit
marked FHC/L/CS/214/
2021, is: “Whether by the
combined interpretation of
the provisions of section
215(a) of the Constitution
of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),
sections 7(3), (6) and
18(8) of the Nigeria Police
Act, 2020, the 1st Defendant
(Buhari) can lawfully extend
the tenure of the 3rd
Defendant (Adamu) as the
Inspector General of Police
after having retired from
service of the Nigeria Police
Force”.
The Police Service Commission
was also joined as
the 2nd Defendant in the
suit the legal body filed
through its team of lawyers
led by Dr. Charles Mekwunye.
