GOD’S WORD FOR TODAY - THE BIBLE TIMES | A9

oADVICE

Chosen

out

of the

world

DON’T BE TROUBLED from A8

it to you.

“I command these things to

you, that you may love one another.

If the world hates you, you

know that it has hated me before

it hated you. If you were of the

world, the world would love its

own. But because you are not of

the world, since I chose you out

of the world, therefore the world

hates you. Remember the word

that I said to you: ‘A servant is

not greater than his lord.’ If they

persecuted me, they will also

persecute you. If they kept my

word, they will keep yours also.

But all these things will they do

to you for my name’s sake, because

they don’t know him who

sent me. If I had not come and

spoken to them, they would not

have had sin; but now they have

no excuse for their sin. He who

hates me, hates my Father also.

If I hadn’t done among them the

works which no one else did,

they wouldn’t have had sin. But

now have they seen and also hated

both me and my Father. But

this happened so that the word

may be fulfilled which was written

in their law, ‘They hated me

without a cause.’

“When the Counselor has come,

whom I will send to you from

the Father, the Spirit of truth,

who proceeds from the Father,

he will testify about me. You

will also testify, because you

have been with me from the beginning.”

Let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and

glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Showers of blessings

MATTHEW ALPHAEUS

STAFF REPORTER

Seeing the multitudes, Jesus

went up onto the mountain.

When he had sat down, his disciples

came to him. He opened

his mouth and taught them, saying,

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the Kingdom of

Heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn,

for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the gentle, for they

shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger

and thirst after righteousness,

for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, for they

shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for

they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for

they shall be called children of

God.

Blessed are those who have been

persecuted for righteousness’

sake, for theirs is the Kingdom

of Heaven.

“Blessed are you when people reproach

you, persecute you, and

say all kinds of evil against you

falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and

be exceedingly glad, for great

is your reward in heaven. For

that is how they persecuted the

prophets who were before you.

“You are the salt of the earth,

but if the salt has lost its flavor,

with what will it be salted? It is

then good for nothing, but to be

cast out and trodden under the

feet of men. You are the light of

the world. A city located on a

hill can’t be hidden. Neither do

you light a lamp, and put it under

a measuring basket, but on

a stand; and it shines to all who

are in the house. Even so, let

your light shine before men; that

they may see your good works,

and glorify your Father who is

in heaven.”

God reveals his moral

law to mankind

God spoke all these words, saying,

“I am the Lord your God,

who brought you out of the

land of Egypt, out of the house

of bondage.

“You shall have no other gods

before me.

“You shall not make for yourselves

an idol, nor any image of

anything that is in the heavens

above, or that is in the earth

beneath, or that is in the water

under the earth: you shall not

bow yourself down to them,

nor serve them, for I, the Lord

your God, am a jealous God,

visiting the iniquity of the

fathers on the children, on the

third and on the fourth generation

of those who hate me,

and showing loving kindness

to thousands of those who love

me and keep my commandments.

“You shall not take the name

of the Lord your God in vain,

for the Lord will not hold him

guiltless who takes his name in

vain.

“Remember the Sabbath day,

to keep it holy. You shall labor

six days, and do all your work,

but the seventh day is a Sabbath

to the Lord your God.

You shall not do any work in

it, you, nor your son, nor your

daughter, your male servant,

nor your female servant, nor

your livestock, nor your stranger

who is within your gates;

for in six days the Lord made

heaven and earth, the sea, and

all that is in them, and rested

the seventh day; therefore the

Lord blessed the Sabbath day,

and made it holy.

“Honor your father and your

mother, that your days may

be long in the land which the

Lord your God gives you.

“You shall not murder.

“You shall not commit adultery.

“You shall not steal.

“You shall not give false testimony

against your neighbor.

“You shall not covet your

neighbor’s house. You shall

not covet your neighbor’s wife,

nor his male servant, nor his

female servant, nor his ox, nor

his donkey, nor anything that

is your neighbor’s.”
