Vice President

of

Academic

Administration

Profile Summary &

Manifesto

by

Mickailia K. Reid

Profile

I am Mickailia Reid, a third-year

Computer Science student, who is

solely dedicated to making our futures

a better one. I am involved in a variety

of extra-curricular activities including

various clubs and sporting events.

Nonetheless, I continue to maintain

a high GPA. Presently, I am serving in the executive position of

President in the Computer Hardware and Information Processing

Specialists Club (CHIPS) for the 2020-2021 academic year where

I am successfully fulfilling objectives within my manifesto.

Therefore, as I continue to follow my heart as it lights the path

to my future, I am vying for the office of Vice President of

Academic Administration because of the level of dedication and

determination displayed in all that I do as well as the passion I

have for a better future for our students. It is through this position;

I believe I can bring ultimate change to our academic and holistic

experience.

Manifesto

Should I be elected Vice President of Academic Administration

of the United Student Movement, I will ensure that I advocate for

the incorporation and enhancement of programs and policies that

will strengthen and boost our university environment on behalf of

the student body. My priority is to ensure students are given the

best opportunities this world has to offer. With that being said,

introducing my three-point plan:

Innovation as the Drive, Certification as the Prize, Education as

the Key (I.C.E)

1. Innovation as the Drive

It is one thing to innovate, but another to utilize these

inventions. This generation is blessed with several inventions

that can be used to develop our institution. With these resources

an arm’s length away. I believe I can readily incorporate suitable

technology to improve the learning experience of our students.

I also believe that students should be provided with such

opportunities to develop their skills and talents. As such partner

with Institutional Research and honors society to allocate funds

to equip them with these gadgets. Providing students with the

opportunity to innovate, advance, and develop their skills with the

use of different technology readily available to us. For example,

editing software and drawing tools for students of DCS and Art

department, respectively.

2. CERTIFICATION AS THE PRIZE

Professional certifications, without a doubt, give our

achievements and skill levels tremendous legitimacy, but many

are daunting and not everyone achieves them. Professional

certifications are important whether you are trying to open a path

to a new profession or to advance the career you are currently

in. Therefore, the availability of international certification will

be made readily available to our students, as their development

is at heart. As such, I will implement a certification programme

geared towards providing students with a list of short, innovative

certification courses which can be coupled with their degree

programme to enhance their qualifications for Job Hunting upon

graduation.

3. Education as the Key

Ignoring the academic issues of a student or taking too long

to look for assistance perpetuates a cycle of dissatisfaction and

disappointment. Therefore, I plan to implement a new and improved

tutoring programme, welcoming tutors from each department to

assist students in need of help with significant courses. Students

will be allowed to apply to become tutor a course of their choice

prior to the new semester. To maintain each tutor, they will be

compensated at the end of the semester once the required

hours are completed with students. I am sure this will spark more

excitement in our tutoring programme.

Other objectives include the hosting of academic motivational

sessions, mentorship programmes, practical workshops and improvement

of the delivery of courses.
