DREAM COLLAB: THE WEEKND

A FUSION OF TROPICAL HOUSE AND PURE POP

Jaime Webster, also known as June, traverses the seamless space

between elation and nonchalance with her music. June’s electric house

sound shimmers brightly against her smooth and vibrant vocals to

create melodies reminiscent of late 80’s pop music. After all, that’s what

June is for Jaime, a blend of a little nostalgia, self-reflection and sincere

emotion.

“I want to make true pop music, like Madonna”

Her effortless cool takes influences from the retro-chic style of

confident new age pop stars,0 However, with a deep love for electronica,

her music stays closer to the beach, with upbeat production that avoids

dipping into melancholia.

Coming from a family of musicians, it would be easy to assume that

she was pushed into the music world, forced to uphold the Webster family’s

legacy. However, that could not be further from the truth.

For Jaime, it wasn’t the allure of stardom, or the renowned music

connections that have surrounded her from childhood, but the genuine

pursuit to create a life surrounded by music. Jaime fell in love with the

craft long before she knew the lineage and global influence of her family’s

musical talent.

DREAM COLLAB: THE WEEKND

“When other kids were going out to do who knows what, I was going to

piano practice — I wanted to do that, that’s what I loved to do."

June’s song creation process begins with a few chords played out on the

piano (an instrument that she’s been practicing since she was just 3 years

old). Once the melody has been laid out, June focuses heavily on the

verses and the emotional connection between the words and the music.

Then she pairs the sound with exotic instruments that have piqued her

interest. Jaime has never needed many outside influences to make her

art, she’s always been independent and that’s how she wants it to stay.

This method is how she discovers vibrant organic rhythms in a sea of

synths and samples. June is an exploration of emotions, a self-reflection

that stays in the moment. Her blend of unique and exotic instruments,

including her voice, makes you want to get past the troubles and just

dance.

photography

june’s sound can be best described as upbeat and feel-good with

an underlying sense of mindfulness behind her songwriting. the

goal is to capture that same brightness in tone while remaining

maturity and thoughtfulness throughout her photo imagery.

there’s no single style that must be followed but photographs

should be high quality in both resolution and composition. for

official-use photography, her face should be at least somewhat

visible. the use of colored light filters can be used for offical

artist profile images when matched with her core and accent

color palettes. Gradient and solid color overlays using june’s

branded color palette should also be utilized. an emphasis on

film photography draws out a certain raw and down-to-earth

quality that is reminiscent of both june and her songwriting.

motion design

the negative tracking aspect of the primary june wormark logo

can be exploited by using a tracking animation which draws the

letters closer and/or further apart.
