participants, officials and volunteers to the 

Port Pirie Pura Light Start State Masters 

Games. The Games provide a wonderful 

opportunity to promote Port Pirie and 

surrounding areas as a healthy, active and 

vibrant local community.

journey of the 

Masters Games in 

Port Pirie began, it 

also signals an 

amazing 10 year association with our major

ongoing success of the Port Pirie Masters 

Games would not have been possible.

games of the 2008 State Masters Games,

Excitement is 

building for the 

celebration of our 

5th Pura Lightstart State Masters Games, 

in Port Pirie. 

In 1998 the Port Pirie Regional Council 

decided to host a Masters Games event as 

part of advancing sport in our community. 

Port Pirie has held this event in 2000, 2002, 

2004, 2006 and is now ready for 2008. 

Over this time we have won the 

Department of Recreation & Sport 

Volunteer Award three times and SA 

Great Awards four times for a sporting 

event. All of these prove the success of 

Port Pirie Masters Games.

Again the entire Port Pirie sporting 

community has supported this event and 

many hundreds of volunteer hours have 

gone in to ensuring that this event will be a 

huge success for all concerned. The entire 

Port Pirie district embraces the Masters 

games and participates in the event in 

some capacity. It is pleasing to see the “be 

active” message happening with many 

participants continuing to enjoy their sport 

as a regular, fun physical activity. 

This is the fifth time that the State 

Masters games have been held in Port Pirie 

and each games has seen significant growth 

in competitor numbers and local sporting 

involvement as well as positive residual 

Over the years the Games have grown in 

professionalism and respect amongst the 

sponsors, competitors and volunteers. I 

must take this opportunity to sincerely 

thank and congratulate the amazing 

volunteers, approximately 650, who 

dedicate their skills and time to ensure 

that each State Masters Games in Port 

Pirie is even more professional and well 

organised than the previous. 

These Games continue to grow in stature 

with the introduction of even more sports for 

you to consider. New to the event next year 

will be Dragon Boat Racing, Fishing, Power 

Lifting, Indoor Rowing and a Pedal Prix. 

Our city continues to provide quality 

sporting facilities and professional 

administrators who ensure the high 

standard already set is upheld. 

We are looking forward to meeting new 

competitors and to welcoming the return 

of the previous competitors and familiar 

faces to our region. 

To the volunteers of this event, Port Pirie 

salutes you. Without this sensational team 

we could not put on an event such as this.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING YOUR ENTRY 

1. Closing Date for Entries 

The closing date for entries into the Port Pirie Pura Light Start State Masters Games is 5.00pm, Friday 14th 

March 2008. Late entries may be accepted in some sports. 

2. Entry Forms 

Participants must complete the Games Entry Form, Games Entry Fees Form, Games Team Entry Form (if 

applicable), as well as the Individual Sports Form. 

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE FORMS CAN BE PHOTOCOPIED AS MANY TIMES AS REQUIRED, 

DOWNLOADED FROM www.portpiriemastersgames.com.au OR REGISTRATION ONLINE FROM 

1ST JANUARY 2008 

3. Games Entry Fee 

The $35.00 compulsory entry fee covers administration, medals, certificate and souvenir bag handouts. The 

Games Entry Fee and some Sport Levies attract the GST (Goods and Services Tax). These 

are clearly marked. 

4. Sports Levy 

Sports levies are set by the individual sports and vary from sport to sport. 

5. Team Sports 

Each Team Organiser must complete the Team Entry Form and each Team Member must complete an individual 

Entry Form. All team entries need to be bulk posted. 

6. Age Limit 

Competitors must turn the minimum age for the sport(s) to be competed in by 31st December 2008. The 

minimum age for competitors varies from sport to sport. Proof of age may be requested. 

7. Insurance 

It is recommended that all competitors secure and are covered by personal medical insurance or have secured 

and are covered by appropriate health cover prior to competing in the Games. 

8. Accompanying Persons / Non Playing Officials 

Accompanying persons and non playing officials may pay their games entry fee of $30.00 to receive all benefits 

available to competing athletes, however, medals will not be awarded. 

9. Refund Policy 

A refund less $10.00 administration fee will be given up to and including Friday 21st March 2008. Refunds after the 

Closing Date will be sent at the discretion of the Board of Management. All requests for refunds must be in writing. 

10. Photographic Material and Images 

I consent to the taking of photographs and electronic images of me during my participation in the Port Pirie 

Pura Lightstart State Masters Games and that these photographs and images can be used for promotional and 

other purposes without my further consent. 

INDEMNITY AND DISCLAIMER 

I agree to abide by the rules of each sport and compete with a spirit of fair play. I also agree not to hold the Games 

Management, Personnel or Organisers liable for any damage in respect to any claims made in relation to events or 

functions being held as part of, or in conjunction with the Port Pirie Pura Light Start State Masters Games.

dragon boat club in ‘sports’ events at regattas. Where the eligibility of an individual 

competitor in a social team is disputed, the Organising Committee’s decision will be final. 

Corporate teams - may contain a maximum of 2 paddlers who have previously competed 

for a dragon boat club in ‘sports’ events at regattas. Where the eligibility of an individual

Closing Ceremony 

Port Pirie is inviting all competitors; visitors & community take part in the closing ceremony of the Port Pirie Pura 

Light Start State Masters Games on Saturday 12th April 2008, beginning at 6.30pm. 

For the Games in Port Pirie it is a first and we are looking forward to a big celebration to close down the week of fun 

and games. The event will take place at the oval of the Port Football & Community & Sporting Club on Wandearah 

Road Port Pirie. This has all been made possible by the sponsorship received from Nyrstar, Port Pirie Regional 

Council, Mark Hanlon Sportscene and Automatic Print. It will be a great night with entertainment by the Band Side 

Show Food & Drinks are available for sale on the oval and to finish off the night will be a great display off fireworks. 

The Port Pirie Regional Council would like to thank all who has supported the Port Pirie Pura Light Start State 

Masters Games event.If it is your fifth we congratulate you if it is your first than we hope to see you again for our 

next masters and that you all enjoyed our hospitality. 

Friday Night Sports Dinner
