WELCOME TO CHAMPIONS, INC.

Champions was founded when a couple of likeminded

friends united with a vision to serve and

give back to their local communities by providing

leadership training, camping retreats, concerts,

seminars, community events and more.

Founders, Patric and Babe

In the 80's, Patric Paul Garrett and Babe Jackson

were introduced to Pastor Fred Newkirk and

camp life through their home church, Tower of

Faith Evangelistic Church. Through Pastor

Newkirk's guidance and training, the two of them

soon became a staple on his ministry team, Inner

City Ministries and at Quaker Meadow Christian

Camp. Their ministry relationship grew and

flourished over 25 years while ministering to

over 20,000 children and young adults of all ages

through

various camp retreats every year: Leadership (Summer) Camp, Family Camp,

Kids Camp, Horse Camp and Winter Camp.

In 2009, Patric and Babe finally began to focus on branching out in ministry

together. In 2014, they attended a work camp training that taught them a lot

about building their own camp ministry, the hard work that goes on behind the

scenes and it prepared them for a shift that brought many opportunities to serve

their communities individually and collectively.

Champions is committed to creating amazing spaces, encounters and

opportunities to experience God's presence through fun, worship, and

friendships. These god-ordained experiences are guaranteed to make a lifelong

impact on all that attend.

CAMPIN WITH CHAMPIONS DURING COVID SEASON

Camping Safely in

2021

March 14, 2021

First and foremost, we are going to make “Campin’ With Champions” in 2021

the most amazing summer camp ever. We are taking the steps to make sure we

are COVID19-free and safe. COVID Testing sites are now available to us

everywhere, which allows us to confidently plan for a safe 2021.

Every camper and staff member must get tested for COVID19 at least 72 hours

before the date of our camp departure. All test results must be printed out and

turned in at the registration table when you check in at the bus stop.

In addition to testing, we have more information from CDC about being COVID-

SAFE, so upon arriving at camp all campers will attend a mandatory safety meeting

so that they are thoroughly educated on the details. We will also provide additional

hand sanitizers throughout the campgrounds, hand soaps, and face masks as

needed.

Our safety plan has three primary components:

1. Creating a Bubble: We will keep COVID out by appropriate screening and

COVID-testing prior to the camp, with the goal of creating a bubble within the

camp community.

Screening, Testing, and Creating a Bubble

A key part of our safety plan involves creating a bubble in the camp community.

This means that every camper and staff member will begin forming their bubble two

weeks before camp by quarantining at home and not going out for anything. We

encourage you to have done all your shopping by July 22, for essentials, which is

17 days before our camp date. The first 14 days should be designated for

quarantine order. One August 5 th , 6 th or 7 th is when you should test for COVID.

Everyone is required to COVID Test one to three days before departing for camp

and all hardcopy printouts must be turned in with other registration forms prior to

loading on the bus. Everyone will also answer screening questions and receive a

temperature check prior to boarding the bus.

To ensure the integrity of our camp bubble we need you to make sure that you

STAY AT HOME after your COVID test. This will lessen the chances of you

contracting the virus after you have been tested. All campers and staff with positive

COVID test results will not be allowed to join us at camp this summer.

Social Distancing Outside of Camp Families

Each cabin within camp will be its own CAMP FAMILY that travels together

throughout the day. Within camp families, campers will not need to maintain social

distancing. However, distancing will be especially important to maintain between

other camp families. Each family will always stay distanced from others, and

campers who are not in the same group/family.

Safety at Meals

During meals we will put less chairs at each table, which will enable us to spread

out more in the dining room and ensure adequate distancing between families. We

will also have our dining room well ventilated. Windows and doors will always

remain open.

Meals will be served by our kitchen staff from behind fiberglass partitions. Campers

will be called by family to be served, and they will wear a mask whenever they walk

across the dining room to get their food. We will not have drink or condiment

dispensers available to minimize common touchpoints. Also, no flyers or decorative

objects will be placed on tables to facilitate thorough cleaning and disinfection

between each meal.

2. Limiting the Spread of Germs: To limit the spread of germs within camp, we

will regularly clean and sanitize the facility, require frequent handwashing of

everyone, maintain camp “families” so each bunk is its own self-contained

unit within the larger camp community. We will also require masks and/or

face shields during unstructured transition times and other periods where

germs may spread.

Personal Hygiene

All campers and staff will follow several key hygiene rules, on which everybody will

be trained before and on the first day of their camp visit. These include the

following:

a. Campers and staff will frequently wash their hands with soap and water for

20 seconds each time and will be trained on the CDC’s handwashing

principles.

b. Campers and staff will frequently use hand sanitizer between hand washings.

Sanitizer stations will be available throughout the campgrounds, inside

cabins, chapel, and other indoor facilities.

c. Campers and staff will cover coughs and sneezes with the inside of their shirt

by grabbing the open collar in front of the shirt to cough or sneeze inside the

chest area. Tissue can also be used to cough or sneeze into. After doing so

throw out the tissue immediately, and then wash their hands with soap and

water for 20 seconds.

d. Campers and staff will maintain appropriate distance from others who are not

in their camp families/cabin/bunks.

e. Campers and staff will avoid touching frequently touched surfaces such as

handles, doorknobs, tables, and counters whenever possible. Doors will

remain propped open to prevent frequent touching.

f. Campers and staff will be reminded to avoid touching their mouth, nose, and

face throughout the day.

g. Campers and staff will not share clothing or other personal items.

h. Campers and staff will immediately let their counselor or supervisor know if

they feel sick.

i. Campers and staff will wear masks and/or face shields whenever they are in

a multi-bunk group setting or in-door settings.

j. Campers and staff will have their temperature checked twice daily.

Cleaning and Sanitizing

We will have enhanced cleaning and sanitizing around the camp facility throughout

the week. High-touch surfaces will be cleaned frequently throughout the day, and all

parts of the facility will be disinfected extensively using EPA-approved disinfectants.

We will have a dedicated cleaning and disinfection team all week.

We will also eliminate high-touch surfaces when possible. This means doors will be

propped, garbage cans will be foot-actuated or lid-free, and water fountains will be

turned off. Athletic and other shared equipment will either travel with each camp

family or be fully disinfected between each family’s use.

3. Reacting Appropriately: If a camper or staff member develops symptoms

associated with COVID, they will be required to go to the infirmary and reside

there until their emergency contact person has been notified and picked them

up, the symptoms resolve, or they have a negative test result from the Rapid

COVID Test.

Following All Relevant Guidelines and Best Practices

We are committed to following all relevant guidelines, regulations, and best

practices. We are taking several key materials into account:

• CDC guidelines for overnight camps

• the American Camp Association Field Guide for Camps on Implementation of

CDC Guidance

• OSHA guidance; and

• California regulations

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqpQhuWYOtc&feature=emb_title

Travel to Camp

Transportation by charter buses will be provided for campers and staff. We ask that

you arrive to the assigned bus stop at the scheduled time to check in, get

temperature checked, load your luggage under the bus, and keep your masks and

face shield on while riding on the 2-hour bus ride.

Ultimately, our goal is to create the safest possible camping experience in 2021 for

our campers and our staff. Based on what we knew in June of 2020; we were not

able to plan a safe camping experience. Knowing what we know now, we are

moving full speed ahead with planning for a safe, memorable, and amazing

summer camp in August 2021.
