Thank You

From the Editor

This magazine was the most stressful yet rewarding

piece of work I’ve accomplished, and I’m so glad It’s done,

yet the fling is so bitterswt. The creative frdom I

was allowed with this project was something so foreign

yet so exhilirating. The amount of times I felt up and

down, I couldn’t tell you- but I think it’s normal to have

your creativity and motivation fluctuate. Nothings linear.

There were so many different aesthetics and design elements

I wanted to experiment with, but having to make

the hard decision on what works now was something I

had to learn. I’m always going to kp growing and I can’t

wait to look back on this compared to my style and my

interests in the future. Don’t worry I have ideas stored

for the next magazine when it happens and I can’t wait to

s the progression. None of this would have bn possible

without my extremely fun, creative, and encouraging

friends helping me fill the contents of this magazine with

their personal words, fire fits, and photgraphy skills. A

special thank you to Kobe Brian for being a co-creative

director in this project and making visions come to life.

Mimo was created as a souvenir for my friends and I, and

it’ll continue to grow as we grow.

Love,

HAPPY

NEW YEAR

2021

Featuring the boys in this “Thrift Drip”

section, they are serving y’all looks that

prove you can find unique and staple

pieces for less while looking fly. Its all about style

baby. You can score high quality goods at a low

price! Fast fashion might be convienent and

sometimes... I won’t lie. Its cute. Does it last? No.

What you see is not what you’re gonna get. You

reduce waste by shopping at your local thrift

store. Supporting small consignment shops and

independently owned thrifts gives back to the

community, and brings in room for more unique

finds. A huge upside is vintage fabric. If you’re

great at sewing, upcycling clothing is huge

now-a-days. This also creates the best one of a

kind clothing pieces. Thrifting also helps you

with your style expression since there are so

many options. You’re able to see leather, suede,

silk, linen, etc. all in one place. Mixing and

matching is also so fun. Having fun pieces truly

shows personality, and its just theraputic guys. I

love thrifting. All bad bitches love thrifting. If

you’re going to resell please don’t be a meanace.

Make your money, but be conscious.

Estephany

“Coffee + Chill” - Spotify Playlist

“This album, because I love cafes,

and a delicious cup of coffee with good,

relaxing, and chill music.”

Corrie

“777-9311” - The Time

“My dad and I would play pool all day for like

a month because of quarantine, and we’d just listen to

Morris Day and Prince.”

Haeley

WHAT WE LISTENED TO

IN 2020

Heres a list of songs that all of us have

listened to in the past year to help us

get through one of the most traumatizing

years to date. From happy to heartbreak-

all of us coped in some way to

help us forget what was going on in the

moment, and to just be immersed in

our music. Take a look.

“Painted” - Lucky Daye

“Take Time” - Giveon

“These two albums I swear be stealing the words

that are in my head that I would never say.

They really made me feel something

in a year where most of me was numb. Nice

to face some feelings and almost validate them.

I also like to imagine they’re singing to me.”

Bubby

“Just like magic” - Ariana Grande

Even though it came out towards the end of 2020,

queen Ari saved the year with this song. I listen to

this song first thing in the morning to get myself in

a good mood and manifest positive energy for the day.

“Alive” (Trivecta Remix) - Dabin, Runn

“This beep boop song makes me feel something.”

Kem

“YHLQMDLG” - Bad Bunny

“Future Nostalgia” - Dua Lipa

“These two albums dropped in the beginning of

quarantine, and they’ve been there for me when i’m

going crazy and need to have a dance party to forget

life for a bit, or not feel so trapped.”

Nancy

“Soledad y el Mar” - Natalia Lafourcade

“Ropa de Bazar” - Ed Maverick

11

Kobe

“Summertime Magic” - Childish Gambino

“For sure lifts my mood and makes me reminisce

the memorable parts of this terrible quarantine year

with the euphoric island sounds and catchy melody.

Also Rihanna is in the music video.”

Kunal

“Cassius 1999 (Radio Edit)” - Cassius

Pily

“Crazy Eyes” - Alex Mali

“Painted” - Lucky Daye

“Garden Kisses” - Giveon

“Musas” - Natalia Lafourcade

“When I came across this song for the first time

I immediately was hooked. I chose this song

specifically because of how upbeat it is. I love

the energy, the raging beats, and its ability to

get my creativity flowing. It transports you into

that little world you're always in when listening

to music and while my moods are constantly

shifting, I can always come back to this knowing

that for the next 3 minutes and 41 seconds I’m

entirely in a different dimension.”

“Just my crying playlist :)”

Keziah

“Made in Lagos” - Wizkid

“I love afrobeats and afroblues, so that’s pretty much what I have been

listening to in 2020 haha. I have a lot of favorite artists, but Wizkid got

me through 2020. That album is truly vibes! It makes me so happy and

I feel like I am on vacation when I listen to it! 2020 was a lot, but that

album helped me to stay at peace!”

Xavier

“Chasing Summer” - SiR

“Revenge of the Dreamers” - Dreamville

“Chasing Summer rode through the end of 2019

to the summer of 2020 to make you feel the warmth

of the album through quarantine. Revenge gave you

the different vibe of livelihood through chemistry

and talents to inspire.”

Charlie

“Overthinking IT” - Willow Smith

“New Apartment” - Ari Lennox

“Willow is more my vibe, and Ari

is who I want to be”

My name is Christine, but I mostly go by a lot

of other names (some include Bubby, Christy,

Sue, Bobby and Crusty). I worship Ariana Grande.

I think I am sensibly smart, but sometimes I act stupid

on purpose to add some spice to my life. My only character

trait is having a lip tattoo. I’m allergic both dogs

and cats but I’ll gladly suffer so I can show them affection,

but I can’t to my own dog because he’s evil. A

client called me “the health department lady.”

Now I’m looking for new jobs because I don’t

want to be known as that. I really do not care

much about possessions because I do not

need anything, and am satisfied with what I

own because I’m fucking weird. I am a Yelp

Elite because I spend all my money on food

and drinks. I’m known to be cool and chill,

but will complain a lot if you get me talking

so sorry in advance. Mantra is “fuck bitches,

get money!” Shit is hard but I’m continuously

trying to be a better person. Ihave

a lot happening in 2021, but I hope that

everything works out successfully in

the end as progress towards a

fulfilling life that benefits

myself, my friends and family,

and society.

i I’m Charlie. Um. I have 2 cats. Married.

Spouse is Military. I stay at home all day.

Not sure what’s going on. I’m kinda

really scared of the world now. I use to be

the opposite kind of. I feel I have a sense

of agoraphobia now. Not sure why but I

haven’t done anything about it. Been

on the half empty side for a long

while now. Running low on fuel. I

kinda do digital art but not much. I

love all things grotesque, raunchy,

and weird. Being random and

mysterious is a lot of fun to

me because I dislike every

thing being so serious. I’m

trying to find a drive and

what my life means to

me again.

CORRIE

'm Corrie and I am a licensed Master

Esthetician and soon to be licensed

Permanent Makeup Artist. As an

esthetician I love being able to help my

clients with their skin concerns and

also educate them on how to improve

their at home skincare regimen.

Some of my favorite treatments

to perform are microdermabrasion

or any kind of peel. I

love seeing the immediate glow

from the skin after performing

either of those deep exfoliation

treatments. (I also

love being able to give my

friends Brazilians when

they're about to see their man.)

Eventually I want to work at a medspa

where under the license of a doctor

my scope of practice will expand.

When I'm not at the spa I spend

my free time playing video games

(I have literally spent 15+ hours

playing nonstop) watching

movies or hanging out with my

friends. I have a slight addiction

to getting pierced and still want

as of now about 6 more piercings.

I hope this year that I can spend

more time reading. I would say

travel but covid :/ Ultimately

I am just hoping for new

experiences and adventures.

In a perfect world, in my perfect

world, I would own a little

coffee shop and be my own boss,

and travel the world, and be as happy

as I could be. In a perfect world..that is.

Realistically, I would most likely be too

afraid to make such a risky and bold

decision to make myself truly happy,

but as we most do, we settle in life,

because we are afraid to fail. Sometimes

we need to fail to succeed, but

even then the willingness is intimidating.

Realistically, I would work any job

in order to pay the bills, and travel as

much as I could to keep my sanity. I

don’t even understand why I was

put on this Earth, so it is very

frustrating to think about my

future. One day though I’ll

know what I want and maybe

taking the risk to live my

dream won’t be so daunting.

Lorem ipsum

I’ve been changing like the phases

of the moon. One day I feel something,

then the next is different.

I’m trying to overcome the feelings

that I’ve held onto that I don’t think

concerns me anymore. One thing I

know is, I want to keep changing

& growing into my most treasured

self. I’m trying to almost spiral

into control. Trusting that there

are days where I question everything

including my choices, but

that it’s necessary to reflect and

be unsure sometimes. Even if

being in tune varies because of

how convoluted we think, the

belief of wanting and trying to is

what counts. 2021 is something very

new to me. One of the first years where

I can envision something worth while.

Maybe it’s the sunset at top of a hill.

This magazine has taught me that

I absolutely love creative direction.

My direction, thoughts,

feelings, and perspective. I’ve

always sat back, listened

and followed. It was easier.

I’m promising myself to

take the risks that I know

will contribute to my

happiness and success.

To a year filled with

love, and the people

in my life that fill

my heart, hoping

they stay forever.

23

Kem

H

ello! My name is Kemberlee Zelaya,

but I go by Kem :) I am an incredibly

awkward person, but I think I’m so

funny. I play Overwatch, and Persona 5

quite a lot. I love music so much and creating

playlists. My go to shows right now are

Demon Slayer and Naruto with a little bit of

Modern Family. Last summer I reconnected

with swimming and Pokémon Go hunting.

This year I want to learn how to play the

piano, I’ve been gaming and watching

tv so much, I need to do some

thing creative and try new

things for myself. Thats definitely

one thing I want

to do this year, is go out of

my safe zone. I hope this

year corona dies, and I get to

see my friends more and travel.

25

Keziah

Hi everyone! My name is Keziah, its pronounced

kay-zee-ah, and I am Ghanaian and Ivorian. In 2020 I

graduated with a major in Fashion Merchandising, and

a minor in Marketing, AND turned 23 all on the same day! I

love hanging out with my loved ones, shopping, traveling, and

creating content, specifically on Youtube. I create fashion,

vlogs, and lifestyle content. My whole goal is to share my

styling ideas, encourage others to not be afraid to express

their sense of fashion, and share my life

through my interesting, yet fun vlogs.

This year 2021, I want peace and

happiness. 2020 was such a long

ass year, but being done with

school, its allowed me to become

more serious with my goals

such as Youtube, content

creating, and just simply

enjoying life! The fact that I

started working on my goals

ending of 2020, I have a

great feeling about 2021

and there on.

KOBE

27

My name is Kobe Brian, I am a photographer

+ director based in Northern Virginia who

specializes in portrait and fashion. Growing

up, videography was a major hobby of mine and

then I found a new interest in photography and the

science behind it. My primary focus is capturing

style and beauty, but I plan on venturing into the

landscape and sci-fi field at some point.

I'm also a huge nerd when it comes to

anything superhero and sci-fi related,

like DC, Marvel, Star Wars, etc. When I

was a kid I would typically get action

figures, video games, and all sorts of cool

stuff and I guess it stuck around to this

day. Music is also very important to

me and plays a big part of my life

because I grew up with a musically

inclined family, so I listen

to all kinds of music but

mostly RnB and Soul. I

promised myself that this

year I'm going to be the

most authentic version of myself and take big

leaps & be more adventurous, as opposed to

being comfortable and not taking chances.

Art and fashion have always been such a huge influence in my life.

Whether that be modeling, styling, doing photo shoots, or lending

my keen eye for aesthetics- wearing various different hats and

becoming a jack-of-all-trades seems to be a path I’m on. If you were to ask

me what I want to do, who I want to be, I’d probably stare back at you with

a blank expression. The simplest answer to that would be a creative director

(or a human disaster, if you will). I’ve always envisioned myself being

my own boss— cliché, I know. Owning a brand where I’m

able to dictate my own rules, set my own standards, and

not have anyone or anything undermine what it is I

create would be ideal. When I think back to all that

I’ve done at this point, it's clear that a creative of

some sort is what I’m gearing up to be. Funny

thing is, I still have no clue. I guess when you

have so many interests you don’t know where

exactly to begin. It’s not that I don’t have

goals, aspirations, or even resolutions (and

granted it sounds a lot darker than it

actually is) but, the truth of the matter is

that being in this free-flowing state has

been the best thing yet. Living in a

world where things have become

so unpredictable, it’s almost

mandatory for you to priorize

yourself. Taking the time to master your

craft while also having the flexibility to go in

any and all directions. I draw my biggest

inspirations from badass, strong women,

such as Lady Gaga and Nadia Lee Cohen.

I admire how they’re able to find this

liminal space in which they can

bring their vision to life. A space in

which they walk the fine line

between evolving and realizing

that the current version of them

selves is the vessel for channeling

their inner creative genius.

Becoming a visionary.

31

Nancy

Ikeep buying books I wont finish. I buy

crystals I dont cleanse. Some days I

wake to footsteps pounding over

me. When i was a child I watched the

sunset from my tire swing. Now the

trees cover too much of the sky so I

climb onto a branch that hangs over

my head. I sit there against the trunk

but the suns already too low now.

Took too long to get up there and

I’ve scratched my arms and legs on

my way. So what now? I’m nancy

and I have no clue what the freak

is going on ever. When I’m not

feeling paralyzed by the overwhelming

stress of striving for

future accomplishment and

success in a time of futility, I

like to cultivate joy through art,

music and clothes, and many

many many daydreams. I could

have picked a hundred songs but

I limited myself (like always) to

the first ones that came to mind;

songs that give voice to nameless

feelings. Feelings and

urges that whisper then yell

fuck off to the branch, and

follow the the pink and

orange in the sky. So this

year im going to try to get

out of my head, think less

and do more.

33

Pily

I’m

a nail artist.

Some people might not view my

work as art, but I don’t see it any other

way. 10 tiny canvases. People walk out

of my studio so happy, and its

crazy to

me that my art does that. My art is on their

hands, and they’re out in the world flaunting

it. It brings me peace. I never thought i’d

be an artist for a living, with my own studio and

schedule. It’s honestly a bit of a weird feeling, but I

absolutely love it. It took me 5 years to finally quit my job

and open up my little shop. As a first born daughter in a

latino household, I’ve always put others needs ahead of

mine, but I’ve realized that doing that has left me stuck.

Stuck in places, relationships, jobs. I worry too much

about my family’s needs, so a lot of my past choices

weren’t ever really for myself. But I think it’s time I

be a little selfish for my own sake. I need to take

risks, and explore things out of my comfort

zone so I never feel stuck again. 2021 is my year

of true independence. I’m finally sett- ing boundaries

that I should’ve set long ago, and taking the risks necessary

to grow. I’m letting go of fear, which is hard because

that’s been a lifelong companion. I’m manifesting. I am happy. I am

successful. I am the me I’ve always dreamed of. I am beyond grateful.

35

XAVIER

If you were asked to describe self love, would you have

an answer? If you have self love, how do you express

it? This is a journey I’m currently on and sort of an

intuitive sense of where I’m at now. Throughout the process

I’ve been learning to creatively put my principles of love,

growth, and inspiration into words and sounds. A learning

curve that I struggled with the most was appreciation. Appreciate

what you have now because you never know when you

may lose it all. Appreciate the little things so you can learn

to have more. Especially during these trying times of a

pandemic... Express your love through your art to

keep the cycle of inspiration alive and going. With

that perspective, change can occur. The goal for

this year is manifesting growth, conquering

fears, and creating music to share. As long as I

stay consistent and focused, there can only be

progression. Holding anything back no matter

how big or small you may think your

art is, will not only be doing yourself

a disservice, but the

world as well.
