Cricket News: Michael Vaughan praises Rishabh Pant, says he
is a freak
Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been going through a purple patch ever since his
return in the Indian squad during the Australia tour last year. In the last four months, he has set the
bar so high with his consistency that there is hardly a batsman who has been this consistent like him
in recent times.

In the ODI series against England, Pant had featured in the last two games and scored 77 off 40 and a
68-ball 72 as well. And, it was the all-important 99-run stand in just 70 balls between him and Hardik

Pandya that helped India put up a match-winning total. Although at that point, a huge total of more
than 350 runs was expected in the 1st innings, their dismissal affected the total as the hosts could
manage to post 329 runs on the board in the third and final ODI in Pune.
However, his blistering knock received a lot of praise from experts, including the former England
cricketer Michael Vaughan who gave a special appreciation for the young wicket-keeper batsman
who top-scored for India in the 3rd ODI as well.

Michael Vaughan was impressed with Rishabh Pant’s recent form and has applauded him for his
‘freak’ nature.
"I will be honest with you. I think he is just a freak. He just does things his way. I would not suggest
many to try and play the way Rishabh Pant does, because he is so unique," Vaughan said on
Cricbuzz.
"One thing I would say to the youngsters watching Rishabh Pant is just his mindset. He looks so
relaxed. When he goes out, and the pressure was on, he just looks like he is playing in the park. He is
not playing for India, he is just playing cricket which he has played for many, many years. Be it U11s,
U15s, U19s, and now the national team - it's just a game of cricket for him. And that's such a
refreshing attitude and it's very difficult to have that attitude," he further added.

Pant, who was earlier got criticised for his fearless attitude in batting, is now praised by all over the
cricket fraternity for his stunt. Vaughan, however, said that his style is his own and he shouldn’t try
to emulate it as well.
