House of Commons in London, it is also
celebrated by organizing a carnival at
Trafalgar Square.”
At Britain's biggest Hindu temple, the
Swaminarayan temple in London, NRIs
come from all over Europe to participate in
Diwali and get blessings. In Leicester the
Das stated, "Singh believed that God
prizes, a community gathering with firecrackers
and a mass Lakshmi Puja followed
by community dinner.”
The Gujaratis have a bigger celebration
on the day following Diwali as they
celebrate their new year according to the
ancient Indian system hailing Emperor
Vikramditya or the Vikram Samvat.
The young CA Saher members donated
an Acquaguard water filter and a
geyser to the Naturapathy centre in
Shantivan. They indulged the aged inmates
in painting the diyas (lamps) and
communicated with them at a stretch,
Lord Krishna's exploits basis of Diwali
celebrations : Swami B.S. Tirtha Maharaj
The grand homecoming of Lord Ram
after 14 years marks Diwali or the festival
of lights.
But Diwali has a strong Krishna connection
too, explained Swami B.S. Tirtha
Maharaj, founder of Gaudia Vaishnava
Association during his interview with the
BBC in Birmingham recently.
He revealed that one of Lord Krishna's
exploits is the basis of Diwali celebrations.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord
Vishnu in his 8th incarnation as Krishna
destroyed the demon Narkasura. The demon
Narakaasura was the evil king of
Pragjyotishapura, near present-day
Sri Sai Leelavathy... (Cont. from page 1)
The announcement was made at the
special function organized by the
Sansthan, on the occasion of Diwali, to
honour eminent doctors in
Panvel, in the temple hall.
Stating that doctors
were chosen for a noble
profession, Hiro
Makhijani called upon the
doctors to dedicate themselves
to serve mankind
and that money was immaterial
in serving the needy.
Dr.Suhas Haldipurkar, Dr.
Khot, Dr.Mahendrakar, Dr.
and Mrs. Prakash Patil,
Dr.Gune were among the
doctors presented with
Diwali prasad, by His Holiness
Sri Sai Narayan
Baba, on the occasion.
Addressing the august gathering, Sri
Sai Narayan Baba delivered the promises
of Shirdi Saibaba in chaste Marathi and
Assam, who ruled with ruthlessness and
even gods feared him. He had abducted
16,000 daughters of the gods, and stole
the earrings of Aditi, mother of the gods.
The gods asked Lord Krishna for help,
and after a mighty battle he killed the demon,
freed the girls and recovered the earrings.
Krishna granted Narakasur one last
request, because of the good deeds he
had done. Narkasura hoped that his death
might bring joy to others, so he asked,
"Let this day be celebrated as a day of
feasting in the World!" Krishna granted
his request and today we celebrate the
day with feasting and joy.
informed the various reasons for celebrating
the festival of lights and joy. Defining
wisdom, the Sadguru stated that it is the
awareness of one’s ignorance, which
causes the ego to disappear and Him (the
Supreme Lord) to appear.
Suhas Haldipurkar of
Laxmi Eye Institute,
Panvel, remarked that it
was always soothing
and inspiring to listen to
Sri Sai Narayan Baba’s
discourses. He added
that Sadguru Sri Sai
Narayan Baba was doing
so much for the poor and
downtrodden and the
people of Panvel were
fortunate to have Babaji
so close to them, where
they can easily come to
seek inspiration and
guidance.
Dr. Shakuntala Bathija compering the
proceedings referred to Sri Sai Narayan
Baba as the eternal Mother .
