Una de las cosas más importantes
que puede hacer como padre o
cuidador es aprender los primeros
signos del autismo y familiarizarse con
los hitos típicos del desarrollo que su
hijo debería alcanzar.
El momento y la intensidad de los
primeros signos del autismo varían
ampliamente. Algunos bebés muestran
indicios en sus primeros meses. En
otros, los comportamientos se vuelven
obvios a los 2 o 3 años.
No todos los niños con autismo
muestran todos los signos. Muchos
niños que no tienen autismo muestran
algunos.
espectro autista. Si su hijo presenta
alguno de los siguientes síntomas,
pídale a su pediatra o médico de
familia una evaluación de inmediato:

Not all children with autism show

TURISMO / TOURISM
Hablemos Sobre
El Turismo
Por Martin Owen
¿Recuerda el turismo antes de esta
pandemia? Uno de los grandes temas
en todo el mundo antes de 2020 fue
el concepto del exceso de turismo.
Muchos destinos estaban sufriendo,
Nuestro deseo
natural como humanos es viajar,
explorar y visitar nuevos lugares.
La industria que ha sido mi carrera
ha encontrado formas cada vez más
eficientes de trasladar a las personas y
permitir que cada vez más de nosotros
deambulemos. La desventaja era que
muchas áreas, ciudades y destinos
clásicos estaban experimentando
niveles de visitación a veces
destructivos. Bueno, COVID puso fin
a eso. Ciudades cerradas; complejos
turísticos cerrados. Los cruceros fueron
anclados y las aerolíneas, cuando
pudieron volar, volvieron a los vuelos
de carga.
Una ventaja ha sido que la
naturaleza ha tenido la oportunidad de
reclamar lugares de donde había sido
expulsada. Los canales de Venecia se
han aclarado y se han hecho informes
de delfines nadando en la laguna. Los
residentes de lugares como Ámsterdam
en los Países Bajos habían visto un
gran aumento en los alquileres a corto
plazo, eliminando efectivamente las
viviendas disponibles de los locales.
Con la reducción de visitantes, han
comenzado a reclamar su ciudad de
vuelta.
UU.) Siguen viendo
niveles cada vez mayores de infección.
Australia y Nueva Zelanda, aunque
han sufrido menos que algunos
países, dicen que sus fronteras estarán
cerradas a los turistas extranjeros hasta
2022. Qantas, la aerolínea nacional
australiana no espera volar rutas
anteriores
permanecerían
en el puerto
durante un día
con los pasajeros
comiendo y
gastando a
bordo. Aunque
los lugareños
quieren restringir
el tamaño de
los barcos, el
gobierno de
Florida no está tan seguro y quiere
volver a las políticas anteriores. Queda

pasado. Quieren difundir la afluencia
de visitantes durante todo el año, no
solo en los meses de verano. Están
tratando de alentar a los huéspedes a
participar en más actividades en lugar
de simplemente quedarse en la playa.
Un CVB local está promoviendo
“pequeñas aventuras” para que las
familias practiquen paddle surf,
pesque, buceen y exploren.
Solo podemos
mantener los dedos cruzados.
Let’s Talk About Tourism
By Martin Owen
the Australian national airline is not
expecting to be flying intercontinental
routes until the end of this year and
maybe not until next year.
Plans are being made by many
destinations to review their tourism
policies either to reverse over-tourism,
or to change the way they handle
visitation.
Referring to the Florida Keys again,
the locals have voted to restrict the
size of cruise liners that visit. They
would prefer smaller ships, with
fewer passengers, but who stay for a
number of days. These visitors would
potentially spend more in the local
economy. The previous mega-ships
would stay in port for one day with
the passengers eating and spending
on board. Although the locals want to
restrict the size of ships, the Florida
Government are not so sure and
want to revert to previous policies. It
remains to be seen who will prevail. If
they do have smaller ships the actual
cost of the cruise ticket will rise too.
Less passengers but higher spending
visitors.
Venice, again, has decreed that the
huge cruise liners are not welcome in
the waters of the lagoon that overlooks
St Mark’s Square. The locals and
tourist authorities do not want to see
the vista of the iconic city impacted by
what are effectively floating cities.
Even here on the Northern Gulf
Coast things are changing. Some of our
local tourism authorities have started
implementing very different marketing
plans than existed in the past. They
want to spread the influx of visitors
across the year, not just in the summer
months. They are trying to encourage
guests to engage in more activities
rather than just staying on the beach.
One local CVB is promoting ‘little
adventures’ to get families paddle
boarding, fishing, scuba diving and
exploring.
Of course, this also has the ripple
effect of encouraging visitors to spend
more. As someone commented to me
the other day “would you prefer 1000
visitors each spending $1, or two
visitors each spending $500?”.
So, the new mantra for tourism may
well be rather than marketing their
destinations to tourists, they will look
to engage in tourism stewardship. The
aim being to satisfy locals as well as
visitors to their mutual benefit.
Hopefully there will be a silver
lining to the pandemic cloud as far
as tourism is concerned. We can only
keep our fingers crossed.
Remember tourism before this
pandemic? One of the big topics
across the world prior to 2020 was
the concept of over tourism. Many
destinations were suffering, if that’s
the word, from more visitors than they
wanted. Our natural desire as humans
is to travel, explore and visit new
places. The industry that’s been my
career has found ever more efficient
ways of moving people around and
allowing more and more of us to roam.
The downside was that many areas,
cities and classic destinations were
experiencing sometimes destructive
levels of visitation. Well, COVID put
an end to that. Cities shut; resorts
closed. Cruise vessels were put at
anchor and airlines, when they were
able to fly, reverted to cargo flights.
An upside has been that nature has
had the opportunity to claim back
places she had been driven from. The
canals of Venice have become clear
and reports of dolphins swimming
in the lagoon have been made.
Residents of places like Amsterdam
www.conexionflorida.com
in the Netherlands had been seeing a
huge increase in short term rentals,
effectively removing available housing
from locals. With the reduction in
visitors, they have begun to claim their
city back. The Florida Keys have been
spared huge cruise ships. It’s the same
the world over.
Of course, the drop in the economic
benefits of tourism has been in many
cases, catastrophic. Places that rely
on visitors have seen their incomes
devastated. Jobs have been lost, and it
may take years to recover - if ever.
However, with the increasing
availability of vaccines the world is
beginning to look at what happens
after the virus. That may be some
way off though, as the distribution
of vaccines is patchy throughout the
world. Some countries are (even
the USA) are seeing still increasing
levels of infection. Australia and
New Zealand, although they have
suffered less than some countries, are
saying their borders will be closed to
foreign tourists until 2022. Qantas,

¿QUE PASA TALLY?
De todas las
mujeres que cuidé
como cuidadora
privada, Bee fue una de mis favoritas.
Amaba muchas cosas de ella, incluida
su forma melodramática. Cuando Bee
experimentaba un síntoma preocupante
(que podía o no indicar algo grave),
soltaba un profundo suspiro y decía:
“Bueno, si muero, muero”.
Bee no tenía miedo de morir, pero
temía el proceso de morir. Ella, como
la mayoría de nosotros, esperaba que
cuando llegara su momento, moriría
pacíficamente mientras dormía. A los
97 años, con su gran sentido del humor
y su interminable entusiasmo por la
vida, Bee no quería sufrir una muerte
prolongada.
A menudo he pensado en cuánto
me identifico con la actitud de Bee
sobre la muerte, pero en un sentido
espiritual.
El pecado puede tomar tal control
sobre nuestras vidas. Además de las
consecuencias que nosotros mismos
enfrentamos debido a nuestras
decisiones pecaminosas, ¿a cuántas
personas lastimamos en el camino?
Cuando finalmente decidimos
abandonar el pecado o una tentación
incesante, pasamos por una temporada
(a veces una temporada larga y
prolongada) de sufrimiento hasta que
finalmente morimos a ese deseo o
comportamiento.
después, ¿consideraría confesarle a
semana? ¿Qué pecado
acabará cada uno de
nosotros con el poder
del Cristo viviente
que habita dentro de
nosotros? ¿Qué hábito
destructivo venceremos
en el nombre de Jesús
para que podamos
experimentar el tipo de
vida resucitada sobre la
que leímos en la Biblia o
escuchamos testimonios
en la iglesia? Seguramente
estas áreas de nuestra vida no valen
ni una fracción de la alegría que
experimentaremos una vez que lo
hagamos.
Si morimos, morimos. Pero una vez
que estamos verdaderamente muertos
a ese pecado, estamos verdaderamente
vivos.

To Die is to Truly Live
By Sheryl H. Boldt
Of all the ladies I cared for as a
private caregiver, Bee was one of
my favorites. I loved so many things
about her, including her melodramatic
manner. When Bee experienced a
troubling symptom (that may or may
not have indicated something serious),
she’d let out a heavy sigh and say,
“Well, if I die, I die.”
Bee wasn’t afraid of dying, but she
dreaded the dying process. She, like
most of us, hoped that when her time
came, she’d die peacefully in her sleep.
At 97 years of age, with her great
sense of humor and classy neverending
zest for life, Bee didn’t want to
suffer a long, lingering death.
I’ve often thought about how much
I relate to Bee’s attitude about dying –
but in a spiritual sense.
Sin can take such control over
our lives. Besides the consequences
we ourselves face due to our sinful
choices, how many people do we
hurt along the way? When we finally
decide to forsake sin or an unremitting
temptation, we undergo a season
(sometimes a long, drawn-out season)
of suffering until we finally die to that
desire or behavior. But once we die to
behavior that isn’t God-honoring, like
addictions, sexual immorality or even
a “lesser” sin like gossip, we’re able
to rise to a different way of living – a
much more satisfying way of living. A
life that resembles Christ’s nature.
Romans 6:5 (ESV) reminds us that
when we die to our sins and trust in
Jesus’ death as payment for our sins,
we’ll experience the power of His
resurrection. “For if we have been
united with him in a death like his, we
shall certainly be united with him in a
resurrection like his.”
During this week, and every week
after, would you consider confessing
to God (Who powerfully loves you) a
specific area you’re struggling with and
ask Him to help you to die to it? To
help you separate your sinful passions
from your heart that passionately
desires to be like Christ? To give you
a glimpse of what a resurrection life
looks like?
Dying to bad habits or sinful
behavior (that, if we were honest, we
love) is painful. Thankfully, it doesn’t
have to be a long process, especially
when we share our struggle with an
accountability partner or small group.
These people will help us keep our
eyes on our Savior, even when all hell
breaks loose. A marvelous bond forms
when you partner with others who also
want to live strongly for Christ.
What one sin or bad habit will you
ask God to help you with this week?
What sin will each of us finally put
to death with the power of the living
Christ Who dwells within us? What
destructive habit will we overcome in
Jesus’ name so that we can experience
the kind of resurrected life we’ve read
about in the Bible or heard testimonies
about at church? Surely these areas of
our life aren’t worth even a fraction of
the joy we will experience once we do.
If we die, we die. But once we’re
truly dead to that sin, we are truly
alive.

¿QUE PASA TALLY?
THEATER WITH A MISSION
Loco for Love Virtual
Festival: A Technical and
Theatrical Success
By Mia Jackson
Amanda Fernández-Acosta, Ben Gunter, Idy Codington, and the rest of the Theater with a Mission
company open an outdoor performance of El Retablo: Where Only the Pure See Miracles
“You took me back to my childhood
today.”
Though the Zoom participant’s video
was turned off, the other attendees
could feel her keen mixture of nostalgia
and admiration as she shared fond
memories of her grandparents. Just 30
minutes into the start of Theater with
a Mission’s (TWAM) Loco for Love
Virtual Festival, viewers were turning on
mics and forging connections between
each historical presentation and their
own past experiences. Their widespread
excitement to share in a celebration
of Spanish Florida and exchange their
own stories made Loco for Love not
only an expertly curated educational
program, but a lively space for
conversation among the most passionate
of individuals.
Given the up-close, interactive nature
of Theater with a Mission’s previous
Loco for Love festivals, it would be
easy to expect potential pitfalls from
a virtual adaptation. But from the first
introductory sounds of a fife and drum,
it was clear that TWAM’s directors and
contributors made strategic decisions
toward the festival’s functional success,
and implemented them with their
trademark flair for drama. In addition to
high video and sound quality, TWAM
assigned important roles to their players
who would each keep the festival
moving in specific ways.
The hosts, Shakespeare and
Cervantes (played respectively by Phil
Croton and Ben Gunter), introduced
attendees to each event and kept the
www.conexionflorida.com
festivities on schedule. Announcer Anita
Miller provided bilingual technical
instructions for any unfamiliar Zoom
users, and the Dramaturg Provocateur
(Aaron Ellis) assisted in managing
the constant flow of chat messages
and ensuring that no question went
unanswered. Despite Zoom’s infamous
penchant for lags and hiccups, the
TWAM team offered a carefully
thought-out blend of professionalism
and themed entertainment that assured
audiences they were in well-prepared
hands.
During his presentation alongside dance expert
Nena Couch, fencing master Ian Borden explains
the differences between historic Spanish,
English, and Italian swords.
Throughout the day, a variety of
scholars, artisans, performers, and
musicians presented on their specialties
and invited attendees to travel back
to Spanish Florida through hands-on
activities. The Dragoncillo Puppet
Troupe opened the virtual festival with
two hilarious and charming tutorials
on how younger viewers can make
their own sock and shadow puppets.
Puppeteers Jason and Knight Yancey
appeared for a live Q&A session,
where they discussed everything from
the history of puppets and theater in
the Spanish Golden Age to their own
traveling shows around the U.S.
By the end of their presentation,
Dragoncillo had gained quite a few new
fans, with requests for more puppet
shows and exclusive t-shirts. The
Yanceys’ creativity and craftsmanship
sparked an engaging conversation
amongst the youngest and oldest of
Loco for Love attendees alike, and
built a bridge between generations for
many. Participants remarked that with
YouTube and Tik Tok, there are endless
possibilities for “old-school” activities
like puppet shows to find their newest
audiences.
The first act of the festival concluded
with a performance of TWAM’s original
bilingual production, El Retablo:
Where Only the Pure See Miracles.
Despite their deactivated videos and
muted microphones, audience members
bellowed “OOO, San Ignoramus!” in
the chat each time a gong rang, just as
they would have in person. The longer
the day went on, the more TWAM
proved that any historic encounter and
theatrical experience could be adapted
with some creativity. Attendees were
eager to create an atmosphere of
welcome participation and enthusiasm
that could be felt even in a virtual space.
The conversation was never livelier
than in Act 2, when dueling master Ian
Borden and dancing expert Nena Couch
gave live demonstrations of fancy
footwork and complex choreography.
Their combined decades of scholarship
in historic Spanish dancing and sword
fighting came to life on the screen as
they discussed the intersections of
technique and terminology, and their
evolution into modern practices since
the Spanish Golden Age. Participants
drew their own parallels to various
forms of Spanish dance and sport,
including bullfighting. The session
was a seamless combination of
entertainment and education that gave
viewers an inside look at investigating
Florida’s past from the perspective of
performers and scholars.
Through presentations by a
Muscogee storyteller, dramatizations
of Free African life in the 1820s, and
performances by Spanish and French
musicians, Loco for Love explored the
multiculturalism of Florida’s history,
and celebrated the diversity still present
in Florida’s indigenous populations and
communities of color. But TWAM took
advantage of the virtual platform this
year to make an unprecedented move
toward incorporating international
artists.
Logging in all the way from
México, surprise guest Efe Tres Teatro
performed two one-act plays written
by Miguel de Cervantes himself. The
Jason and Page Knight of Dragoncillo Puppet Troupe demonstrate how to make show-worthy sock
puppets using household materials such as felt and cardboard.
Mexican theater company performed
both plays as one-man shows entirely
in Spanish, and made impressive use
of technology to create a unique virtual
experience for the audience. The first
play implemented a variety of camera
filters to distinguish between different
characters, and the second utilized a
complex set-up of multiple devices to
create the appearance of different stage
entrances and exits. The nearly 2,000-
mile distance was made obsolete as
participants conversed across nations.
After six plays, eight hours of
festivities, and 20 different presenters,
the Loco for Love Virtual Festival
concluded with reluctant farewells
and promises for more. Though every

No a observarla

Metas
Por Nick Smith
A Guide to
Goals
By Nick Smith
¿Cuáles son sus metas, en su vida,
su carrera, con su familia? ¿Están
enfocados en sobrevivir el día y
mantener a sus seres queridos, o
tiene un plan audaz de cinco años?
Sin metas, resultados por los que
podamos trabajar, corremos el riesgo
de vagar por la vida, sobreviviendo
en lugar de basarnos en nuestro
trabajo y nuestras elecciones de
vida. Con muchas metas, podemos
abrumarnos, ocupados terminando
proyectos sin hacer ningún progreso
a largo plazo. De cualquier manera, a
menudo terminamos trabajando más
duro, no más inteligentemente.
En marzo, pasé una mañana
considerando mis objetivos y adónde
me llevarían, gracias a Emerald
Coast Filmmakers (ECF). ECF es una
organización creada para conectar y
ayudar a los actores y trabajadores de
cine. Es una creación de Christine
York, cofundadora y directora
creativa de Vivid Bridge Studios en
Pensacola.
Durante mis dos años como
miembro del comité de ECF, el
grupo ha ofrecido mesas redondas,
encuentros y saludos, entrevistas y
paneles de Pensacon.
La última iniciativa de ECF fue
un taller llamado “Establecimiento
de metas para autónomos”. Aunque
y marketing. Christine explicó que
entendernos a nosotros mismos
y a nuestra comunidad era la
clave para ser intencionales en el
establecimiento de nuestras metas,
ya sea a corto plazo (terminar un
proyecto) o a largo plazo (construir
medir ganando respeto, siendo
reconocido por años de arduo trabajo
y creatividad, y obteniendo una
sensación de satisfacción.
El objetivo final del participante
Mason Guttery era brindar a su
hogar un cierto nivel de comodidad y
seguridad, y al mismo tiempo poder
despertarse todos los días con una
tarea que abordar. Kalvo Griffin, otro
asistente, quería reconocimiento y
autorrealización.
No existe una fórmula de oro para
lograr sus objetivos, pero un método
útil es dividirlos en pasos urgentes.
¿Qué puedes lograr en una semana,
un mes o un trimestre? ¿Quién
te guiará, ayudará o contratará?
Al responder esas preguntas y
concentrarse en una etapa a la vez,
evita perder fuerza y mantiene la
responsabilidad.
Nuestro
plan es crear cursos que ayuden a
cineastas de todos los niveles, porque
por muchos proyectos que completes
siempre hay más habilidades que
aprender.
Puede encontrar la página de
Emerald Coast Filmmakers en
Facebook y también tenemos un
grupo allí, así que, si desea saber
más sobre cómo hacer películas,
comuníquese con nosotros para
que podamos ayudarlo a lograr sus
objetivos.
What are your goals, in your life,
your career, with your family? Are they
focused on making it through the day
and providing for your loved ones, or
do you have a bold five-year plan?
Without goals – results that we can
work towards - we risk wandering
through life, surviving rather than
purposefully building on our work and
life choices. With too many, we can
become overwhelmed, busy finishing
projects without making any long-term
progress. Either way, we often end up
working harder, not smarter.
In March, I spent a morning
considering my goals and where
they would lead me, thanks to
Emerald Coast Filmmakers. ECF is
an organization created to connect
and help local actors and crew. It’s
the brainchild of Christine York, cofounder
and Creative Director of Vivid
Bridge Studios in Pensacola.
During my two years as an ECF
committee member, the group has
offered roundtables, meet-and-greets,
interviews and Pensacon panels.
ECF’s latest initiative was a
workshop called “Goal Setting for
Freelancers.” Although our focus
was on film, all of what was taught
applies to any kind of freelance
work. Christine led the workshop
via Zoom, leading us through a
workbook of things-to-do. We broke
out into small groups in virtual rooms,
discussing deep questions like, “what
does success feel like?” as well
as more specific ones about skills
and marketing. Christine explained
that understanding ourselves and
our community was a key to being
intentional in our goal-setting, whether
short term (finishing a project) or long
term (building a business).
As we talked about what success
looked and felt like to us, we decided
it involved more than fortune and
glory. For me, success could also be
measured by gaining respect, being
acknowledged for years of hard work
and creativity, and gaining a sense of
contentment.
Participant Mason Guttery’s ultimate
goal was to provide his household with
a certain level of comfort and security,
while also being able to wake up
every day with a task to tackle. Kalvo
Griffin, another attendant, wanted
recognition and self-fulfillment.
There is no golden formula for
achieving your goals but a helpful
method is to break them into timesensitive
steps. What can you achieve
in a week, a month or a quarter? Who
will guide you, help
you or hire you?
By answering those
questions and focusing
on one stage at a
time, you avoid losing
steam and maintain
accountability.
I found the workshop
very worthwhile,
not just because
of the workbook
and discussions,
but also thanks to
the encouragement
Christine and the
participants gave each
other. ECF has been asked to do more,
and longer, sessions in the future.
Our plan is to create courses that will
help filmmakers of all levels, because
however many projects you complete
there are always more skills to learn.
You can find the Emerald Coast
Filmmakers page on Facebook and we
have group there too, so if you want
to know more about making movies
please reach out to us, so we can help
you achieve your goals.

Pitaya Entertainment se lanza con seis
series de podcast de algunas de las
personalidades latinas más populares
en el mundo del entretenimiento, entre
las que se encuentran estrellas de
televisión, galardonados comediantes
e importantes influenciadores de
YouTube, sumando una red combinada
que supera los 27.5 millones de

durante las dos últimas semanas
debutando en las listas de Apple

posiciones 1 y 2 en popularidad en los
Estados Unidos según el Top 200 de
Apple para podcasts en español.
“Mientras que los podcasts están
ganando popularidad en los Estados

ha atendido ni desarrollado lo
suficiente, y las voces latinas carecen
sustancialmente de representación
en la publicación de podcasts. Pitaya

Zach Horowitz, socio directivo y
cofundador.
Todos los podcasts iniciales de
Pitaya Entertainment serán series
semanales en formato de talk

personalidades latinas reconocidas
con una extensa base de seguidores
fieles, y se publicarán tanto en medios
tradicionales como en línea.
La mayoría de las series serán
en español, otras serán en inglés y

para la audiencia, con acceso a
nivel mundial a través de múltiples
plataformas como Apple Podcasts,
Spotify, YouTube, Google Podcasts,

Los presentadores de los podcasts
en Pitaya Entertainment son tan

debutantes se encuentran mexicanos

presentadores tienen en común.

siendo una estrella, la popularidad
de Giselle se extiende por varias
generaciones.

SALUD Y BELLEZA / HEALTH AND BEAUTY
FRUSTRACIÓN
Por Marcos Otero - Gulf Coast Immediate Care Center,
Fort Walton Beach, FL
No había manera.
Sigo siendo tuyo humilde y
respetuosamente.

MARCANDO LA DIFERENCIA / MAKING A DIFFERENCE
MARCANDO LA
DIFERENCIA -
DANI BOWMAN
animación, ilustración, ¡enseñar animación a adultos

COMIDA
Por Carlinha Carioca (CT)
Depois de fazer
algum services no
mês passado, me
encontrei dirigindo
de DeFuniak
Springs para
Santa Rosa Beach.
Ao admirar a
tranquilidade das
águas da baía de
Choctawhatchee,
senti fome. Em
busca de um lugar
para saciar minha
fome, encontrei
por acaso o “NB” North Beach Social
restaurante.
North Beach Social é um lugar
acolhedor e charmoso localizado à
beira d’água na baía de Choctawhatchee
na HWY 331. Esse novo restaurante
charmoso estava aberto há apenas cinco
dias, quando tive o prazer de tropeçar
em sua porta. Com um maravilhoso
conceito bem aberto, pode-se optar por
sentar-se no amplo espaço externo ou
interno sem perder de vista a excelente
vista da baia .
O que eu gostei no “NB Social”
é que oferece um ambiente muito
relaxante para você estar com amigos
ou família. A área da praia de areia do
restaurante também é um ótimo lugar
para entreter as crianças. Eles oferecem
música ao vivo 3 dias por semana,
certifique-se de verificar seu site para
a programação de música. Todas as
noites, se o tempo estiver bom, também
há fogueiras.
A comida é pedida em um balcão
e a comida é levada à mesa de sua
escolha. No menu, eles oferecem
uma variedade de pratos de entrada,
algumas saladas, uma variedade de
sanduíches e alguns pratos principais
. Eles também oferecem um menu
infantil com algumas opções populares
para criancas. Enquanto pedia minha
comida, pude ver que eles estavam
fazendo algumas de suas deliciosas
sobremesas. Eu experimentei suas
ostras cruas que tinham um gosto bem
fresco, umas deliciosas batatas fritas
e bebidas. Não se esqueça do seu
protetor solar se você optar por pegar
alguns raios de sol enquanto saboreia
essa comida gostosa é delicioso
coquetéis...Fique seguro e saudável.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE -
DANI BOWMAN
By David Triana
Dani Bowman is one of the most
special human beings I have ever
heard about or met! As the father
of a son with Autism, I first learned
about her several years ago from
friends within the autism community
of Northwest Florida and have
followed her career from that point
on.
Dani was diagnosed with autism
at age 4 and was unable to speak
until age 6. As she recounts in her
Facebook page, “my family was
told I was never going to graduate
high school (she graduated with a 4.0
GPA and honors), make friends (she
has friends all over the world), or find
employment.”
Unfortunately, these are the kinds of
dire predictions that most parents with
autism hear. But how wrong those
predictions were when it comes to
Dani Bowman!
Dani’s personal, educational,
and professional achievements are
impressive and not just because
she happens to be in the Autism
Spectrum, but because they are the
kind of achievements that any person
would be most proud of regardless of
their condition. She is an example
for EVERYONE on what resiliency,
hard work, and continuous personal
and professional improvement are all
about.

DaniMation Entertainment, which
she started at age 14, is a cloud-based

including a music video that includes
the voices of Joe Mantegna, Tom

(Jimmy Neutron), among others. Her
company has also expanded into the
United Kingdom in the last couple of
years.
Now age 25, Dani has earned a
Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (Magna
Cum Laude) and a Master’s Degree
in Business Administration in Global
Strategy and Leadership (Summa Cum
Laude) from Woodbury University, and
is currently working on her PhD!
She is a social entrepreneur
who has combined her six passions
(Autism Advocacy, Public Speaking,
Animation, Illustration, Teaching
animation to young adults on the
spectrum, and Fine & Visual Arts) in
the hopes of inspiring others on the
autism spectrum and other related
disabilities to follow their dreams!
“I aspire to be the Temple Grandin
of my generation”, Dani states in her
Facebook page, “working to change
the world’s perception of autism
and demonstrating all of the special
abilities that people with autism have,
while striving for acceptance and
integration within society.”
Dani’s goal is to reduce the grim
autism unemployment numbers (90%
are unemployed or under employed per
the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
She does that by empowering youth
with animation skills through her
classes and jobs. Dani has taught
over 2000 youth with autism and
other disabilities at Joey Travolta’s
Inclusion Films summer
boot camps and via her
company’s classes. Her
work has been featured in
the LA Times and other
publications in the United

Her list of speaking
and special appearance
engagements includes
being a keynote speaker
at conferences in Ohio,
Alaska and several other
states.
Dani continues to
teach at Joey Travolta’s
summer camps, but she
also conducts her own camps since
2012 including the Arts4All Florida
camp in Tampa and the Spectrum
Laboratory in Los Angeles.
As with all of us, the pandemic has
affected everything that Dani and her
company do, but, she did not allow for
it to totally stop her and in May 2020,
she opened “DaniAcademy” to teach
Virtual animation classes!
For her contributions to the Autism
community, Dani has been recognized
as the First American with Autism
honored at the Anna Kennedy “Wear it
for Autism” fashion show in London,
England, and the Temple Grandin
Award from Future Horizons.
Like Temple Grandin and other
well-known individuals with autism,
Dani is a blessing to our nation at
large and to the autism community
especially. Like she says “I am more
than just my autism diagnosis”, indeed
she is, because she not only advocates
for persons with autism via her
speaking engagements, interviews and
other means, but she has a personal
mission to LEAD THE WAY via
her company’s summer camps and
employing individuals with autism.
During this April Autism Awareness
Month, Conexion Media Group salutes
Dani Bowman for her achievements
and her passion to help those affected
by Autism. She is indeed the epitome

CONVERSATIONS
ABOUT FOOD
By Carlinha Carioca (CT)
After running some errands last
month, I found myself driving from
the DeFuniak Springs to Santa Rosa
Beach. As I admired the peacefulness
of the waters of Choctawhatchee bay,
I found myself hungry. In search for
a place to indulge my hunger I came
by chance across “NB” North Beach
Social.
North Beach Social is a
welcoming, charming place located
on the water in the Choctawhatchee
bay on HWY 331. This charming
new restaurant had only been open
for five days, when I had the pleasure
to stumble in its door. Boasting a
marvelous open concept one can
choose to seat in their large outdoor
space or their indoor space without
loosing site of the great view.
What I liked about “NB Social” is
that offers a very relaxing atmosphere
whether you want to hang out with
friends or family. The restaurants sandy
beach area also makes a great place to
entertain the kids. They offer live music
3 days a week, make sure to check their
website for the music schedule. Every
night if the weather is nice they also
have bonfires.
The food is ordered at a counter
and food is brought to your table of
choice. On their menu they offer a
variety of starter dishes, some salads,
variety of sandwiches and a few plates.
They also offer a kids menu with a
few popular options for the little one.
As I ordered my food I could see they
were baking a few of their delicious
desserts. I tried their raw oysters which
tasted pretty fresh, had some yummy
Truffle fries, and Fish Tacos which
were served with black beans and
coconut rice that tasted delicious. For
dessert we tried the Pecan Pie stuffed
cheesecake, not only it tasted good it
also looked great.
They also have a full bar with many
variety of beers, wines and cocktails.
Make sure to check out their drink
specials. Whether you are in the
mood for some fun with friends,
family or just looking to relax and
enjoy some music and drinks with
water views North Beach Social
might be the place. This is a fun
welcoming place with lots of space,
good food, desserts and drinks.
Don’t forget your sunscreen if you
choose to catch some sunrays while
enjoying their delicious cocktail… Stay
safe & healthy. Until next time…

Joanna Hausmann, una
venezolana-estadounidense,
junto a Jenny Lorenzo, cubanaamericana,
presentan la serie
en inglés Hyphenated, en la que
exploran lo que significa vivir en
ese “guión” o “hyphen” que conecta
las culturas latina y estadounidense.
Estas latinas millenials, ganadoras
de premios como comediantes,
son reconocidas por sus divertidos
videos inspirados en su herencia
latina. Hyphenated debutó en la
posición no. 46 en la competida
categoría Comedia de Apple
Podcasts para los Estados Unidos, y
ha sido el podcast acerca de latinos
y sus experiencias mejor clasificado
en esa lista. (https://www.pitaya.fm/

“Los latinos quieren programas que
hablen de lo que les interesa y estén
conectados de forma auténtica con
su cultura. Nuestros podcasts les
ofrecen justo eso: presentadores
culturalmente relevantes con
quienes sus apasionados seguidores
ahora se podrán conectar
semanalmente por medio de nuestros
programas”, comentó Diana Mejía-

“Como equipo, los directivos
de Pitaya Entertainment aportan
conocimientos extraordinarios
sobre la cultura latina, habilidades
incomparables para los negocios y
el emprendimiento, y una profunda
red de contactos en las industrias
de los podcasts, el entretenimiento
y la publicidad”, señaló Guillermo
Santiso, cofundador y socio.
En la actualidad, más de
100 millones de personas en los
Estados Unidos escuchan podcasts
cada mes, el doble de hace cinco
años. Los ingresos por publicidad
en podcasts en los Estados Unidos
han estado creciendo de manera
consistente a tasas de doble dígito,
incluso durante la pandemia del
coronavirus. En 2021, se espera que
los ingresos por publicidad en los
Estados Unidos superen por primera
vez los $1,000 millones.
Los latinos están significativamente
rezagados en conocimiento
y consumo de podcasts en
comparación con el mercado en
general. Estudios recientes han
identificado que un 55 % de latinos
aún no ha escuchado algún podcast,
y un 39 % ni había escuchado sobre
el tema. Esto representa una prolífica
oportunidad de crecimiento.
Según Andy Bowers, cofundador
y socio, “La audiencia latina de
podcasts es un gigante dormido.
Lo único que está evitando que
despierte es la poca disponibilidad
de programas de alta calidad
dirigidos a esta audiencia y de
iniciativas sólidas para su difusión
en el medio. Pitaya Entertainment
pretende ser líder en ambas áreas”.
Según Jordi Oliveres, cofundador y
socio, “Los latinos estadounidenses
representan más del 18 % de
la población de los Estados
Unidos, con un poder de compra

complete. Completed orders display an order number and you will receive a
confirmation email.
Once you’ve secured your appointment time, please arrive on-time. Individuals
arriving early can cause delays and longer lines.
Please be careful not to be fooled by a fake Eventbrite account. Always use
the link provided by DOH-Okaloosa and Okaloosa County Board of County
Commissioners. Registration is free. DOH-Okaloosa will not ask for credit card
information or your social security number.
We will issue an update once vaccination slots have been filled. As vaccination

FRUSTRATION
By Marcos Otero - Gulf Coast Immediate Care Center, Fort Walton Beach, FL
This month I was going to write about the nervous system. If I discuss all the
body 11 body systems, there may be more understanding about diseases. But
frustration set in. I had 17 pages of notes that I had to get into less than a page and a
half for the publication. There was no way.
Thus, I became frustrated.
Then I thought about all the things that frustrate me. Let me mention some of
these today.
I get frustrated with patients prescribed 90 days of medication and show up nine
months or a year later telling you they just ran out. The disease is worse or poorly
controlled, and they look at you and do not understand why this is. Frustration!
I get frustrated with the insurance companies. I understand they are businesses,
but they can decide what test they will or will not pay for. This is frustrating.
I get frustrated with the patient who says they cannot afford their medication or
medical visit but are tattooed from top to bottom.
I get frustrated with the same patient who states they cannot afford medication
but smoke and drink alcohol.
I get frustrated with the patient who also says they cannot afford medication
but has jewelry, pedicures, and manicures while their children have holes in their
clothes.

theater that delights and inspires,
and—most importantly—a sense of

Yes, there are many reasons for my frustration!
I get frustrated when you delineate a medical plan to work through a differential
diagnosis, and the patient does not follow through.
I get frustrated that everybody is trying to make medicine a political issue.
I get frustrated that every day the web has multiple attempted hacks from around
the world!
Enough with my frustration. There are so many more I can list.
Since the space allowed in the printed version of Conexión Florida is limited,
I will write concise entries. The web, however, will have extended versions of the
topics discussed.
Please go to the web to read and view the multiple articles already there.
Please make comments as to what you would like to discuss or learn about.
Because I am also frustrated that after six years, I’m not sure that anyone is
reading or learning from these articles. I remain humbly and respectfully yours.

Popular Bank y Latin Business Today
anuncian una iniciativa para empoderar
a los emprendedores de las pequeñas
empresas
FUENTE: Latin Business Today, LLC
NUEVA YORK, 30 de marzo de
2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC
PR WIRE/ -- Popular Bank, una
subsidiaria de Popular, Inc. (Nasdaq:
BPOP), y el asesor nacional
multiplataforma de pequeñas
empresas Latin Business Today,
LLC (“Latin Biz Today”), anunció
el desarrollo de un iniciativa
educativa para abordar los desafíos
únicos y urgentes que enfrentan las
pequeñas empresas latinas en medio
de la pandemia del COVID-19. La
iniciativa fue lanzada en verano de
2020 y busca llegar a millones de
propietarios de pequeñas empresas y
empresarios latinos a nivel nacional.
Como parte de esta iniciativa,
Manuel Chinea, director de
operaciones de Popular Bank, y
Eli Mendoza, miembro de la junta
asesora de Latin Biz Today y socio
y director de operaciones de Siris
Capital, se unirán para organizar
Driving Business Success through
the Pandemic (“Manejando el
éxito empresarial a través de la
pandemia”), una serie de nueve
partes de debates virtuales que busca
discutir los desafíos evolutivos y
las oportunidades que enfrentan las
pequeñas empresas en medio de esta
disrupción económica y operativa.
Aprovechando su experiencia y
conocimientos únicos de la industria,
ambos líderes de opinión colaborarán
para discutir el panorama actual de la
economía y de las pequeñas empresas
y empoderar a los propietarios de
pequeñas empresas para conducirse
con éxito en medio de los desafíos
y oportunidades inmediatos y
continuos. Los temas incluirán las
etapas de supervivencia del programa
de pequeñas empresas, así como el
abordaje de objetivos a mediano y
largo plazo. La discusión anterior
incluyó temas como financiamiento
y liquidez de emergencia, y la
agilidad de las pequeñas empresas
de manejarse exitosamente en
medio de la disrupción. Las
próximas discusiones continuarán
siguiendo de cerca la experiencia
en tiempo real de los propietarios
de pequeñas empresas, a medida
que van retomando las operaciones
y planifican el lento regreso a la
normalidad luego de la distribución
exitosa de la vacuna COVID-19.
“Las empresas propiedad de latinos
habían estado creciendo a un ritmo
acelerado antes de la pandemia.
Queremos hacer todo lo posible
para brindar orientación y recursos,
especialmente durante este momento
tan difícil, para que puedan continuar
edificando su éxito”, expresó Chinea.
“Es fundamental adoptar y desarrollar
prácticas comerciales sostenibles que
puedan preparar a las empresas para
adaptarse rápidamente a cambios
imprevistos en el medio ambiente.
La iniciativa hace precisamente
eso, enfocándose en áreas clave
como financiamiento y planificación
estratégica, entre otras”.
La introducción de Driving
Business Success through the
Pandemic llega en un momento
crítico para las pequeñas empresas y
microempresas en los Estados Unidos.
Según una encuesta reciente realizada
por Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship
Initiative, el 86% de los propietarios
de pequeñas empresas latinas
reportaron un impacto negativo
significativo en sus negocios debido
a la pandemia. Casi dos tercios
dijeron que no podrán continuar
operando más allá de los seis meses
si continúan las condiciones actuales.
Además, muchos propietarios
de pequeñas empresas ahora se
encuentran explorando y buscando
nuevas herramientas de ayuda
financiera, a medida que las pautas de
reapertura continúan cambiando.
Además de una serie de debates
virtuales, Driving Business Success
Through the Pandemic incluirá una
serie de artículos educativos.
