48I soon I realized the challenges of working alone, so Istarted to popularize climbing, which isn’t easy withoutany kind of support. I continued equipping routesfor myself in Stupari where I trained for thebig walls, because I am actually more intomountaineering and alpine climbing.After a while I met Amra, which becamemy wife. She stuck to climbingand learned quickly which madeeverything easier. Bolting theroutes together was much fasterand training was more funas well. Winter was alwaysa problem for us becausethere is no climbing gymin our region. So wedecided to solve thatproblem. I extended theroof of my garage to 5m height and built thefirst climbing gym inTuzla Canton. At thebeginning we didn’thave light or heatingduring the winter.But we were veryhappy to have theopportunity to train!Slowly all the hardwork, effort andpersistence pays off,rock climbing is slowlyexpanding in our area.A few years ago, westarted to explored themunicipality of Kladanj,which I like to call theChamonix of Tuzla Canton.Kladanj, at the foot of MountKonjuh with the wild river Drinjača,is a town known for its manyspeleological objects. Thank god, thatmeans many opportunities for climbingin our regions. In the Drinjača canyon, afew kilometers from Kladanj, there are twoTomba’s home gymI needed to come up with a way to get some institutionalsupport for developing that great potential. A Via Ferratawould have high chances of support, so we wrote aproject and received a small grant by the ItalianNGO CISP. So after we finished the first Viaferrata in our region, we also bolted a fewroutes from 10 m to 150 m, in the gradesbetween 4 and 7c.After the Climbing gym in mygarage was finished we startedwith climbing courses, wherewe have the opportunity totrain in a heated room. Wehave children’s and adultstraining sessions and weare working on a realtraining for climbers. I’mvery happy to see thatit’s happening, thatslowly sport climbingis finding its way intoAt Visočicaour part of Bosnia andHerzegovina.Hundreds of hikersand mountaineerspassed through theVia ferrata, we hadsome competitions atKladanj and even moreroutes were bolted.Currently, there are 10sport climbing routesand 5 multipitches, witha potential for a hundredmore. Kladanj is a beautifultown, where you need only15 euros a day plus 10 eurosfor food, there’s beautifulnature, rural tourism and noweven climbing. Now it’s 2021.Tuzla Canton currently has around20 climbers, 5 climbing crags withover 50 routes, and one climbing gymin my house where everyone’s welcometo train. I have a lot of projects in my headfor the future, we’d like to see hundredslarge walls: Hotanjki krš and Brateljevićki krš. Asmore climbers, hundreds of routes and a firstsoon as I saw these rocks for the first time, I knewchildren’s club that will have all the support fromthat I found the huge potential I knew must be hidden an early age to improve the sport.somewhere.
