In all cases, it is advantageous to complete<br />

the requirements for admission in advance<br />

of the February 15 application deadline.<br />

Unless otherwise noted, annual renewal<br />

requires full-time enrollment and a cumulative<br />

grade point average between 3.0<br />

and 4.0. For additional information about<br />

the tuition scholarship and tuition grant<br />

opportunities described below, contact the<br />

Admission Office. Note: Only the Sophie<br />

Kerr Scholarship may be combined with<br />

another <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>College</strong> merit-based<br />

award. Students who meet the eligibility<br />

criteria for more than one WC meritbased<br />

award are entitled only to the largest<br />

award offered.<br />

Beneficial-Hodson Trust<br />

Scholarships<br />

Hodson Trust Scholarships are $60,000<br />

awards ($15,000 annually for four years)<br />

offered to admitted applicants who have<br />

demonstrated outstanding academic<br />

achievement, character and community<br />

citizenship. Among admitted applicants<br />

for the 2000 fall freshman class, students<br />

selected to receive a Hodson Trust Scholarship<br />

had an academic grade point average<br />

between 3.90 and 4.00 and SAT-I scores<br />

between 1350 and 1600.<br />

WASHINGTON SCHOLARS<br />

All National Honor Society and Cum<br />

Laude Society members who are admitted<br />

to <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>College</strong> are designated<br />

as <strong>Washington</strong> Scholars and awarded a<br />

$40,000 four-year tuition scholarship<br />

($10,000 annually for four years).<br />

<strong>Washington</strong> college academic<br />

scholarships<br />

These four-year tuition scholarships are<br />

awarded to full-time students who are not<br />

members of either the National Honor<br />

Society or Cum Laude Society but have<br />

been high achievers in a rigorous program<br />

of secondary-school studies. An academic<br />

grade point average of 3.0–4.0 and SAT<br />

scores of 1110–1600 are required for<br />

scholarship consideration. Annual awards<br />

generally range in amount from $5,000 to<br />

$10,000.<br />

Hugh McGuire awards<br />

Named in honor of the third president<br />

of <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>College</strong>, these tuition<br />

scholarships are awarded to full-time,<br />

high-achieving transfer students. A cumulative<br />

grade point average of 3.5–4.0 for<br />

all academic work completed is required<br />

for scholarship consideration. Awards<br />

generally range in amount from $2,500<br />

to $10,000.<br />

Thomas Edgar Morris Schol-<br />

arship<br />

Named in honor of the first African<br />

American to graduate from <strong>Washington</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong>, this four-year merit scholarship is<br />

awarded to high-achieving black students<br />

at the time of admission.<br />

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships<br />

These $10,000 tuition scholarships are<br />

awarded to all full-time transfer students<br />

who have been inducted into the Phi Theta<br />

Kappa Honor Society. A cumulative GPA<br />

of 3.0 –4.0 and full-time enrollment are
