Love and Cheese Toast<br />

In 1950s Alabama, a White bride-<strong>to</strong>-be upsets <strong>the</strong> apple cart when<br />
she plans <strong>to</strong> invite her beloved Black housekeeper <strong>to</strong> her wedding.<br />
Inspired by <strong>the</strong> playwright’s family his<strong>to</strong>ry, this funny, poignant<br />
s<strong>to</strong>ry explores <strong>the</strong> complex and often dysfunctional family dynamics<br />
created by <strong>the</strong> barriers of racism.<br />
Theatre Tuscaloosa has been entertaining, engaging, and educating<br />
audiences in West Alabama for more than 50 years. In residence at<br />
Shel<strong>to</strong>n State Community College, Alabama’s Community College<br />
of <strong>the</strong> Fine Arts, Theatre Tuscaloosa produces an annual season<br />
that includes five mainstage plays/musicals, two second stage plays,<br />
one all-student production, and a series of educational workshops<br />
and camps known as Theatre Tuscaloosa Academy. Theatre Tuscaloosa<br />
has been an AACT member <strong>the</strong>atre since 2000, and has<br />
been actively involved in its state and regional community <strong>the</strong>atre<br />
festivals since 2017. This is Theatre Tuscaloosa’s first opportunity <strong>to</strong><br />
present a show at <strong>the</strong> national festival.<br />
