»The University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Administration has a rich
tradition in the field of undergraduate and postgraduate higher
education, research work and international cooperation. Our aim is
to produce high quality, well-qualified graduates equipped with
excellent knowledge of administration, economics and information
science, who are capable of making a useful contribution to the
development of the public administration and the economy and
competitive on the global labour market. Since today’s challenging
circumstances not only demand superior knowledge of graduates
but also require well-developed personal competences and
international experience, the Faculty of Administration emphasises
the development of high quality, extra-curricular activities,
practical work internships and international engagement via
a range of international projects and events. We consider that only
by transferring knowledge and experience across borders can we
provide our students with the latest in internationally-attested
theoretical and practical knowledge.

the European academic space. In that spirit, we continual adapt
and develop the content of study programmes and ensure formal
Europe-wide comparability through the recognised international
accreditation procedures of the European Association for Public
Administration Accreditation (EAPAA).«

The Faculty of Administration is one of the University of Ljubljana’s
newest faculties, but it has a long history as an educational
institution. Its work goes back to 1956 when it was founded as the
College of Administration. In 1995 it became a higher education
institution, and was renamed as the School of Public Administration.
From 1997 the preparation of modern new study programmes on
a level comparable to universities around Europe gave increasing
impetus to the idea of granting the School of Public Administration
full faculty status.
Development of the Faculty of Administration International accreditation
In 2003, by amending the Order on the Transformation of the
University of Ljubljana, the Slovenian parliament completed the
process of changing the status of higher education schools, and
on 5 April 2003 the School of Public Administration officially became
the Faculty of Administration.
Today the Faculty implements its mission in the field of higher
education in administration science, academic research, development
and consultancy work, supplementary professional training for civil
servants and international cooperation with similar educational and
research institutes. The focus of the Faculty of Administration’s work
includes the development of these areas:
• the legal organisation and development of the public sector,
• public sector organisation,
• public sector economics,
• public finance,
• public sector management,
• informatisation of the public sector and the development of
e-government.
Study programmes in Administration at the Faculty
of Administration meet the criteria defined by the
demanding quality standards of the EAPAA (European
Association for Public Administration Accreditation).
The EAPAA international accreditation ensures the quality
of the teaching programmes and comparability on the
European level.

Scientific Research
There is a rich tradition of research at the Faculty of
Administration, and it plays an important role in realising the
Faculty’s objectives. The Faculty has three institutes in which
researchers and specialist assistants engage in teamwork
in an expressly interdisciplinary manner across three areas
of administration science: economics, administrative law
and organisation and informatics. They work on developing
systemic solutions for administration, which is transferred into
the Faculty’s teaching and consultancy work. Our staff also
collaborate closely with foreign researchers and postgraduate
students in research projects and programmes. The results of their
work are presented at monthly research forums held at the Faculty
of Administration and at Slovenian and international conferences.

International cooperation at the Faculty of Administration is
also very well-developed and enjoys a long-standing tradition.
The Faculty is actively included in international research and
education space via numerous bilateral and multilateral links. For
a number of years it has been involved in international academic
cooperation, including exchanges of students, teaching and research
staff, cooperation on project work, research programmes, publishing
and organising academic and professional meetings. We consider
that it is only by ensuring the flow of knowledge across borders
that we can provide our teaching staff and students with the latest
theoretical and practical knowledge and retain our competitiveness
within Europe as a whole.

International cooperation at the Faculty of Administration takes
place in the following forms:
• study exchanges for students and teaching staff,
• hosting foreign lecturers,
• cooperation in international organisations,
• joint study programmes,
• international accreditation of study programmes,
• organising round-table discussions, workshops and conferences
involving international cooperation.

The Centre for the Development of Pedagogic Excellence
(CDPE) is focused on total quality systems with a focus on
the development of study programmes, the implementation
of pedagogic processes and competence development for
teaching staff, students and graduates. The CDPE regularly
monitors and assesses teaching processes, programmes
and participants in these processes and plans and proposes
improvements. The CDPE’s other work is focused on fulltime,
part-time and postgraduate programmes to provide
additional competitive advantages to graduates. The centre
also develops practical work internships and has put in place
tutoring for students and teaching staff for the first and
second cycle.
Our aim is highly employable graduates. Centre for the Development of Pedagogic Excellence
It is developing different forms of careers advice (professional
visits to administrative institutions, student conference
presenting top graduates to employers, careers workshops,
competence analyses included in programmes and promotion
of graduate employability), and also assists students with
disabilities, and organising extra-curricular intellectual,
cultural and sporting events, and works hard within the
Faculty of Administration’s Alumni Association.

Alumni Association
The Faculty of Administration Alumni Association brings together
graduates from various generations from all the Faculty’s
undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The association allows
graduates to develop their knowledge and experience, regularly
sharing experiences with colleagues and cooperating with the
Faculty in various fields. This supports people’s personal and
professional development and promotes administrative knowledge
and achievements of the association’s members. It also works
to enhance the reputation of the profession and the education
provided by the Faculty of Administration.
Consulting & Training Centre
The Consulting & Training Centre trains public employees around
Slovenia, and organises custom made seminars and workshops
for groups from Slovenia and abroad. It organises consultations,
symposiums and meetings and prepares material for educational
programmes.
Every year – usually the final week of September – the centre
cooperates in organising and running an international symposium,
the Slovenian Administration Conference. It also provides
professional legal opinions and offers assistance in the tax
consultation field. The Consulting & Training Centre also organises
the General Administrative Procedure Act Examinations.

Publishing
The Faculty’s own publishing unit issues academic and professional
works by Slovenian and foreign authors in the field of pedagogical
and research areas. Professional study literature is an important
study aid for students addressing the most complex theoretical study
problems, as well as the basis and medium for lifelong learning
in administration.
The Faculty publishing unit issues:
• a series of academic monographs »Upravna misel«,
• the academic journal Uprava (Administration), which is indexed,
in numerous international databases,
• independent academic works,
• textbooks and other teaching materials.
Library

The Faculty of Administration library is a higher education library
and specialised information and documentation centre for public
administration. It basic mission is to provide information and library
services relating to fields such as public administration, the public
sector, law and economics. It offers professional support to University
of Ljubljana students and employees in higher education and
postgraduate studies and in teaching and research work.
