D’var Torah

Written by the Confirmation Class

Delivery by Ira Geller

During the course of this year, our confirmation class learned

about the importance of belonging to a Jewish community.

While we remained safe in our homes, we joined with other

teens through the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism,

and we joined with seniors at HSOSC through the Better

Together social action program. We studied and acted upon

our core values. As we turn to mark the celebration of our

confirmation and the holiday of Shavuot, we rejoice that we

have reached this milestone. We look forward to the day when

we can once again walk the halls of our temple and we will see

our own photograph on the wall as we stand together with past

confirmands who proudly represent our families, our temple, and

the future of Jewish life in America.

Shavuot is a lovely holiday which celebrates the receiving of the

Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. We read the Book of Ruth,

and we learn how Judaism welcomes and embraces converts.

This year taught us that though we weren’t close together

physically, we can be spiritually connected. Thank you to Rabbi

Weiner, Aviva Janus, Bill Bronstein, and to the temple staff who

worked with us to reach this simcha in our lives. Thank you to

our families who made sure that we stayed connected to the

temple in order to learn and grow in our knowledge and our

commitment to Judaism.

A Blessing for the Confirmands

May our confirmands lead the next generation’s charge for social

justice, social action, and inclusiveness as they find their own way

of being a light on to the nations. May they recall the teachings

of educators, parents, and past generations as they go forth to

find joy in Judaism, L’dor v’dor…from generation to generation.

Har Sinai - Oheb Shalom Congregation is the combination of

two historic Reform synagogues working together to create

one joyful, warm, inclusive, and socially conscious congregation.

Because we are striving to live our Jewish values through the

lens of a dynamic modern world, we are constantly growing and

evolving in pursuit of that goal.

We are a congregation that...

...Fosters profound connections to one another. We work

together in a sacred partnership, building a community where

all are included, respected, and valued. We celebrate with each

other in our happiest moments and lift each other up in our

most difficult ones.

...Advances our foundational value of repairing the world at

home, in the Baltimore community, and far beyond our walls.

We are committed to performing acts of loving-kindness,

providing service to others, and advocating for justice and

peace.

...Appreciates the rich diversity of the Jewish community and

invites all who desire a connection to Jewish life to join us.

Our doors and hearts are open to interfaith couples and

families, as well as people of all backgrounds, ages, races,

financial means, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

We welcome children and adults with disabilities and their

families. We strive to ensure that our programs and facilities

are accessible to all, and to accommodate special needs.

...Engages in vibrant, innovative, and transformational experiences

that stimulate a lifelong love of Judaism in all generations.

Through learning, music, prayer, lifecycle events, and social

gatherings, we are creating a spiritual home for all of us.
