HISTORY OF LAKEVIEW CEMETERY 

I did on the 25 th day of May 1892 survey and stake out into blocks, lots, street and walks 

a part of the North East quarter of Section twenty-two (22) in town one hundred and 

nineteen (119) range fifty one (51) fifth principal meridian and situate in the County of 

Codington State of South Dakota for the purpose of laying out and establishing a 

cemetery in the manner indicated on the accompanying plat which is a true representation 

of said cemetery, Particularly setting forth and describing the street and walks and all 

blocks and lots in said cemetery and that the lots therein are numbered by the blocks in 

which they are situated. 

Witness my hand this 13 th day of February A.D. 1893 Geo. W. Carpenter, surveyor 

On this 13 th day of February A.D. 1893 before in and for said county and state personally 

appeared Geo. W. Carpenter to me known to be the person described in and who 

executed the foregoing certificate and acknowledged the accompanying map and that he 

made the same, and the subdivision of the land above described at the request of the 

Town board of the town of Leola and that he executed the foregoing certificate by him 

signed voluntarily for the purposes therein mentioned. 

State of South Dakota, County of Codington, Clerk of Court, H.A. Babcock 

Be it known that the undersigned the Leola Town Board the owners of the Land 

described in the foregoing certificate of Geo. W. Carpenter surveyor does hereby 

acknowledge that it caused the said land to be surveyed, staked out and platted for the 

purpose of establishing a cemetery to be known as LakeView Cemetery in the manner as 

described in the foregoing certificate and as indicated on the accompanying map and that 

the street and walks as shown on said map are dedicated to the use forever. 

In witness whereof the Leola Town board caused these present to be signed by its 

chairman and attested by its Town Clerk on the 21 day of February A.D.1893 

Attest James (?)Forter, Town Clerk by Leola Town Board F. O. Grunerud, Chairman 

On this 21 day of February A.D. 1893 before me in and for said County and State 

personally appeared Fred O. Grunerud Chairman and James (?)Forter, Town Clerk of the 

Leola Town board to me known to be the persons who as said Chairman and Town Clerk 

executed the foregoing certificate and acknowledged that they signed the same as said 

Chairman and Town Clerk. Persuant to authority vested in them by the Leola Town 

Board that the subdivision of the land above described and as shown on the adjoining 

map was and is the free act and deed of said Town Board for the purposes set forth in the 

foregoing certificate.
