An invite is extended to Iwi/Hapū/Whānau and other stakeholders to attend a
workshop on 4 June 2 20201 at Agrisea in Paeroa
The workshop is being convened to discuss collaboration in a regenerative
approach to river, streams and marine estuary restoration incorporating
innovative seaweed production and eco-sourced native tree hubs demonstrated
by two Māori owned and managed organisations AgriSea NZ Limited and Pūniu
River Care Inc..
Plant the Future; One River at a Time: Hauraki ki uta Hauraki ki tai
We invite you to join us in a one day workshop to investigate ways to utilise regenerative
practices to improve the health and wellbeing of our awa, our whenua, our moana and our hāpori ō
Tīkapa Moana.
Why should you attend? With the help of some of the country’s most innovative examples of
regenerative practices, we will explore the potential to develop Māori-led enterprises based on an
award winning restoration project in the Waipa region that established Pūniu River Care Inc.
Their example of leadership and smarts is offered to other land blocks and regions with vulnerable
ecosystems and catchments, through templating their business model, an award winning opportunity
for a Māori-led collaboration that creates jobs for whānau while restoring the waterways and whenua
of Tīkapa Moana.
During this Workshop we present innovative examples from leaders of regenerative
approaches to land, river and marine restoration from:
- Pūniu River Care
An example of how to build a sustainable, award-winning enterprise through native nurseries
governed by a network of local marae. This model enterprise now employs 39 staff and is
preparing to scale up to over 100. The Te Mahere Whakauka network is working nationwide
to help Maori-led organisations learn from this to regenerate land and create jobs. Kōrero
from Shannon Te Huia (Ngāti Maniapoto), CEO and 2021 Kiwibank Local Hero of the Year.
- Agrisea NZ Limited
An innovative and unique example of how, through the use of seaweeds sourced and grown
locally, we can improve the health of Tīkapa Moana and understanding of the potential of a
supply chain that produces a range of high value products that improve whenua based
activities in the catchment including soil, plant, animal and bee nutrition. Kōrero from Tane
Bradley (Waikato Maniapoto) , General Manager.
- Green Wave
GreenWave is a global pioneer of regenerative ocean farming involving the co-culture of
seaweed and different shellfish species. The model demonstrates innovative approaches for
sustainable food production while creating positive environmental outcomes and building
community resilience. The opportunity exists to adapt and implement the GreenWave model
here in New Zealand, beginning with a scalable, innovative seaweed farming pilot with strong

potential for a farmer owned cooperative ideally suited to whānau and hapū ownership.
Kōrero from Dr Nigel Bradly, CEO of EnviroStrat Limited.
Our goal is to bring together Iwi/hapū/whānau/marae whose aspirations align with the kaupapa
of restoration, replanting, regeneration and replenishment of our waterways and of Tīkapa Moana to
deliver environmental, social, financial and cultural outcomes for Parehauraki .
We are excited to host this hui and to engage with others that are as passionate to collaborate and
help create sustainable regenerative enterprises in the Hauraki/Te Tara-o-te-Ika a Māui (Coromandel)
region.
